There are still some fellows out there trying to take off corn. Others are plowing and some are spreading manure. Of course, the weather doesn’t make any of these jobs very easy to do. Acres of corn have been left unharvested and some fields look like they are breaking down quite badly. The early arrival of winter has not been welcomed by many but let’s hope we have an early arrival of spring. Those who wish to enjoy the win- ter sport of snowmobiling will not want to hear that, because even with the early arrival of the snow, the trails have not been able to be prop-erly staked or groomed.Unfortunately, the area has suf-fered a tragedy with the loss of aBelgrave man’s life. Our condo-lences are expressed to theRobertson family at this time.Home over the Christmas holidayswere the Wheeler children,Brooklyn from Indiana, Brent fromRed Deer, Alberta and Brianne from New Hampshire. They enjoyed returning to Brussels to see their family and friends. While here, they planned a very special surprise for mom and dad, Brenda and Gerry Wheeler. They hosted a surprise 25th wedding anniversary dinner at the Benmiller Inn for them. Attending the special occasion were parents Helen Wheeler and Jim and Dona Knight, siblings Jim and Dianne Wheeler and Doug and Cathy Wheeler and Karen and Nicole Menheere. Friends attending were Frank and Mary Stretton, Randy and Donna White and Bob Rowe and Colleen Elliot. Congratulations to the Wheelers. The Chesher family also had spe- cial guests home for the holidays. Don and Dale Chesher welcomed their son Darren and his wife Sebina and daughter Victoria home for a week from Calgary. They enjoyedthe weather which actually wasn’ttoo bad for them. When they left tocome here it was -40° in Calgary.Congratulations to two families onthe birth of little ones. Big brother Cody and big sister, Shawna were very excited to share the news of his arrival to everyone on the bus. Grandparents are Joe and Miriam Terpstra. Returning from a trip to Huatoclo, Mexico (just below Acapulo) is Ed McClure. He spent a week in the hot sunny weather in a smaller secluded bay area on the ocean. It was not a really busy area but offered lots of fun things to do. Tours on the ATVs through dry river beds, beautiful cross-country scenery, little cantinas that featured a real taste of the local culture were enjoyed. There was snorkeling, seadoos and catarmarans to enjoy. Big cruise ships sailed by on their way into the next bay and were quite something to see. It was a great trip. Off for a weekend in Ottawa, was Scott McDonald and his girlfriendAlicia. They went to an OttawaSenators game but unfortunately theSens did not win. They were therefor the pre-game warm up and hadfantastic seats just four rows up fromthe player’s bench. They each hadtheir Senator game shirts on andalmost caught a puck flipped overthe boards at them. The happy cou-ple came home engaged. The McDonald family is thrilled to have Alicia become a member of the fam- ily and an already planned birthday celebration for daughter Kelly became an engagement celebration dinner as well. Maxine Marks is at Parkwood Hospital in London. She will be receiving more physical therapy. Ethel Brewer is now at Huronlea. Condolences to Allan Carter and his family on the passing of Florence Carter. Graeme, Helen and Michael Craig spent the weekend in North Bay. They went to celebrate the wedding of their nephew. PAGE 18. THE CITIZEN,THURSDAY, JANUARY 15, 2009. Songbirds chirp a soothing accom- paniment to the silence playing around you. Light radiates through the picture windows, while beyond the peace and tranquility of the countryside relaxes and calms. Heidi McClure has created an oasis with Heidi’s Esthetics. Offering a full-line of services to pamper body and soul, the business, which officially opened just in time for the Christmas rush, is located in the rural landscape outside Walton. McClure became an esthetician in 2004 and worked for others for a time before taking a break. “I didn’t know what direction I wanted to take.” Though she says the idea of a home business was always attractive to her, she continued to debate with herself on whether or not it was the right move. “Then a former client came up to me and asked where I’d been, and shortly after I saw another who asked the same thing. This was basi- cally the push I needed to go for it.” A room was added to the front of her home, located at 42042 Blyth Road, west of Walton. “I wanted something that would offer a separate entrance from the rest of the house.” The room’s soothing earth tones sets the right mood to encourage clients to “Rest, Relax, Recharge” as McClure’s brochure promises. Windows line the walls so her cus- tomers can look out on the pastoral view as she gently trims, files and paints. In the corner is a cozy, soft leather recliner for pedicure clients, while another room offers the necessary privacy for body treatments, waxes and facials. As well as these services, Heidi’s Esthetics offers reflexology, paraffin wax therapy and lash and brow tints. Special packages are manicure and pedicure; pedicure and reflexology, manicure, pedicure and facial, and a facial with an exfoliating body scrub. For now, the business is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and some Saturdays. Her hours at this point are flexible. While appointments are not always necessary, McClure does recommend calling ahead. Phone 591-887-9348 or e-mail hmcclure@tcc.on.ca McClure is happy to be offering a service that more people seem to be looking for. She also enjoys what it offers her. “I think more and more people are allowing themselves to be pampered. I think they are taking care of them- selves better and notice the benefits. And I have met some wonderful peo- ple, whom I wouldn’t have met if I wasn’t in this business.” A little pampering Manicures are only part of the package at Heidi’s Esthetics. From head to toe there are services for total body care.
