HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2009-01-08, Page 16Is your group looking for funding
for a project that will help people
live a healthier life? Take Heart
Huron may be able to help.
The Opportunity Fund, sponsored
by Take Heart Huron, has start-up
funding for new projects. Marilyn
King, Take Heart Huron co-
ordinator with the Huron County
Health Unit, says she’s hoping
community groups across the county
will apply.
“We’re hoping for proposals from
a variety of community groups who
are interested in helping Huron
County residents eat healthier foods,
be more physically active and be
smoke-free. We’ll be watching
especially for plans that work with
children and youth, people living in
low income situations and older
adults.”
The Opportunity Fund is for non-
profit community groups that want
to make an impact in their
community.
A variety of groups were funded
last year for projects which included
school and workplace nutrition, and
building physical activity
opportunities.
If your non-profit group has an
innovative new project that focuses
on healthy living, you can apply for
up to $750 in start-up funding. The
funding must be used by the end of
2009.
Priority is given to projects that
show they can continue beyond the
start-up phase and that work with
other community organizations.
Take Heart Huron encourages
Huron County residents to eat
healthier foods, to include physical
activity in their daily routine, and be
smoke-free. Leading a healthy,
active life improves sleep patterns,
relieves stress and helps prevent the
onset of chronic diseases such as
heart disease, stroke, type II
diabetes, high blood pressure and
some forms of cancer.
To get an application kit, contact
Marilyn King, Take Heart Huron co-
ordinator, at 519-482-3416 or 1-877-
837-6143 extension 2289 if long
distance. Applications are due by
January 30.
