News of H.....ensatt Summerhill Ladies' club meet
Arena, The families of the
Summerhill Club are invited to
attend,
The December meeting of the
Summerhill Ladies Club Was
held at the home of Jean Vod-
den.
•The president opened the
meeting with the singing of
Christmas carols, The Lord's
Prayer and the creed,
The minutes of the previous
meeting were read and ap-
proved, as well as the
treasurers report.
Thank you cards were read
from several of the members
and their families as well as
from the Children's Aid
Society.
A motion was made by
Donna Gibbing and second by
Ali Westerhout to donate $50
to the Summerhill Hall Board.
Laura Forbes entertained the
club with a reading, Verna Gib-
bings held a guessing contest
won by Ann Snell. Sharon
Colclough entertained by
singing "Detour" and
"Rudolph the Red Nosed Rein-
deer".
The January meeting is to be
held at the home of Ali
Westerhout. On lunch and
program are Donna Gibbings,'
Margaret Good and Ruth
Jenkins. Roll call will be a
penny for every letter in your
name.
The meeting closed with the
singing of Grace and the
Queen.
There was an exchange of
Christmas gifts before lunch
was served.
The ladies of the 16th are
having their annual skating
party on the 28th of December
from 3 to 4:30 at the Goderich
received to ask for represen-
tation to attend a meeting in
Clinton on December 14 to
arrange the election of a
student to attend the United
Nations next summer. Mrs,
Evelyn McBeath was appointed
to attend this meeting.
A number of donations was
received for benevolent work of
the Lodge. A donation was
made to the Children's War
Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Inez
McEwan was • appointed
Trustee for the present term of
office.

The December Christmas
meeting F of the Hensall Legion
Ladies Auxiliary was held in
the Legion Hall December 5
with president, Mrs. Mildred
Chalmers, presiding. Final
plans were made for the New
Year Eve dance, and also for
the banquet to be held soon. It
was reported that plants had
been sent to Legion shut-in
members for Christmas.
Tickets are available from
any Legion Auxiliary member
on the Money Doll which will
be drawn for on December 15,
at 4 p.m. 011ie Kyle won the
mystery prize and Jean Munn
won the guessing prize.
On Sunday afternoon, the
Hensall Legion's Family
Christmas party was held in
the Legion Hall with a good at-
tendance.
The funeral service was held
in the Hensall United Church,
December 7 with Rev. Don
Beck and Rev, Harold Currie of
Sebringville officiating. Burial
was in the Hensall Union
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Harold
Sturgis, London; Dr, Harvey
Cowen, Exeter; Jim McAllister,
Stanley Mitchell, Robert Mid-
dleton and Robert Reaburn.
Flower bearers and ushers
were Sam Rannie, Donald
Joynt, Walter Spencer, Bill
Smith, Harvey Keys and Jack
Drysdale.
Mickle Obituary
Ernest Laird Mickle, Hen-
sall, passed away in South
Huron Hospital, Exeter, on
December 4, 1972 in his 76th
year.
He was born in Ridgetown,
son of the late George T. and
Margaret (Laird) Mickle and
came to Kippen in 1915 upon
completion of his high school
education. He was associated
with his father and brother in
the white bean and grain
business in this area and
Ridgetown,
During World War II, he
joined the Royal Flying Corps
and was commissioned a
Second Lieutenant.
Later he returned to the
business and the firm bought
out the Donald Urquhart
business in Hensall, where Mr.
Mickle then settled and carried
on a business in Hensall, Kip-
pen and Brucefield.
A few years after his fathers
death in 1950, the firm in this
area was known as E.L. Mickle
and Son, Mr. Mickle was in the
grain and bean industry for
over 50 years.
He was a member of the Hen-
sall United Church and had
served in many capacities, and
has been an elder for many
years.
Before leaving Ridgetown he
was very interested in baseball
and played on a senior team
there and did the same here in
the 1920's. In the early 1930's,
he managed and coached a
team for several years and they
won many honors for Hensall.
Mr. Mickle was very in-
terested in War Service work
and was head of the War
Saving Certificates for Huron
County for a number of years.
He also was chairman of the
War Victory Loen campaign for
this area for nine years.
He was one of a small group
of men in Hensall who was in-
strumental in getting the arena
and artificial ice for the village.
Mr. Mickle served in the
Exeter School board for 19
years and saw the building of
the South Huron District High
School and also later additions.
He was also a former mem-
ber of the Hensall Curling Club
and a Past Master of Huron
Masonic Lodge No. 224 A.F.
and A.M.
Mr. Mickle is survived by his
wife, the former Dorothy
Welsh, three sons: William L.,

Amber Rebekah Lodge
The regular meeting of •the
Amber Rebekah Lodge was
held in the Lodge rooms Wed-
nesday evening with N.G. Mrs.
Irene Blackwell presiding and
being assisted by V.G. Mrs.
Aldene Volland.
The Lodge was opened in
regular form with all officers
present except one, Cards were
reported to have been sent to
the sick and shut-ins, and
bereaved members of friends of
the Lodge members. The
treasurers report was given and
indicated that there was a good
balance in the account. Mrs.
Leona Parke reported that a
profit of $127.62 was made
from the sale of tickets on an
afghan and blanket after ex-
penses were paid. A motion was
made to enter this amount to
the Social Fund.
It was suggested by Mrs.
Nellie Riley to hold a euchre
party for the Lodge in January,
and seconded by Mrs. Rose
Broderick. A notice was

United Church Service
At the Second Advent Ser-
vice of Worship in Hensall
United Church Sunday mor-
ning, Rev. Don Beck preached
on the sermon topic "On win-
ning the election". A men's trio
comprised of Harry Horton,
Wayne Payne and Don Travers
sang "Watchman, Tell us of the
Night". Sunday evening,
December 17 at 7;30, there will
be the White Gift-Carol Service
featuring both choirs. The
flowers in the Church were
from the funeral of the late Mr.
Laird Mickle.

A.C.W. Meeting
The regular meeting of the
A.C.W. of St. Paul's Anglican
Church was held at the home of
Mrs, R.H. Middleton, on Mon-
day afternoon, following the
entertaining at the Queensway
Nursing Home.
Mrs. G.A. Anderson opened
the meeting with the, members
prayer and. the Lord's Prayer.
The business of the day was
attended to. A sum of money
was voted to the Current Ac-
count of the Church, also the
mission account, and for treats
for the shut-ins.
The study was given by Mrs.
D. Windover. It was decided
not to have a January meeting,
'and the next meeting will' be
'held the third Tuesday evening
in February.
Mrs. G.A. Anderson extended
an invitation from the A.C.W.
of Trivitt Memorial Exeter to a
Pot Luck Supper.
Mrs. Anderson closed the
meeting with prayer.
