They discusser 'Peeking and distributing of Christmas baskets to the shut-ins, made more plans for the big Winter Carnival weekend at New Years and were informed that ticket sales on a high powered snowmobile were picking up, They learned with regret that three members, namely Messers, Grant Stirling, Harvey Coleman and Jack Scotchmer were all hospitalized and wished them "speedy recovery," SUNDAY SCHOOL CONCERT The annual Sunday School Christmas Concert of St. An- drews United Church was held Friday evening Dec. 15 in the Church basement with Rev, J. Reddock as chairman. The Sunday School children entertained with songs, recitations, piano solos, skits and drills, assisted by the United Church Women who did a skit with Mrs. Joanne Bullen as the Postmistress. The Couples Club presented two dialogues, one being a "Radio Broadcaster" and the other "Santa on Trial." The senior boys did a puppet show with poor Santa being hijacked and held for ransom. Throughout the evening Christ- mas Carols were sung by the audience. Later, Santa arrived and distributed candy bags to the Sunday School members and the children in the audience. CAROL SERVICE The annual Candlelight Carol Service held in St, An- drews United Church, Sunday, Dec. 17 was well attended and very much enjoyed by everyone. Mrs. Verna Lobb, Clinton, was guest pianist for the service and assisted Mrs. Molly Cox, organist and choir director, throughout the evening. Solos by John Siertsema "What is This?" and by Ted Dunn "Keep Christ in Christ- mas"; a trio comprised of Peggy and Lynda Campbell and Dawn Emma McLeod, $ "Carol of,the..Drum"-;. a quartet number by Mrs. Molly Cox, Doreen McKenzie, John Siert- sema and Ted Dunn, "When the Lord of Love was Born"; numerous Choir numbers and Hymn selections with the Congregation gave much pleasure and thought to those attending. An hour of fellowship was enjoyed in the Church basement, following the service. ANGLICAN SERVICE It has been the tradition of Trinity Anglican Church, not only to celebrate Christmas day, but to prepare for the celebrations by the reading of the Christmas story, intersper- sing the readings with carols taken from the wealth of music dedicated to God. This service called "The Festival of the Nine Lessons" was held Sun- day morning, Dec. 17. • The Lessons, taken from scripture passages in the Bible, were read by Andrew Erickson, Fred Hulls, Harry Baker, Mrs. Evelene Earl, Mrs. Vine Parker, Mrs. Lorna Merner, Philip DeBoulaY and the Rec- tal., Rev, G, Youmatoff, each presenting the different church groups. Christmas Carols were sung by the congregation and choir joining their voices in a very beautiful service, For the first time 'in a nu m- ber of years, Trinity Anglican Church Sunday School held a Christmas Concert, Sunday, Dec. 17, The Junior Sunday School opened by singing "Jingle Bells," Recitations by Dawn Merner, Cindy Cluff and An- drew Erickson and a skit en- titled "The Hole in the Stocking" performed by Cindy Cluff and Andrew Erickson, a reading by Ricky Johnson and the entire Sunday School doing the "Christmas Story" with the teachers, Mrs. Lorraine Haely and Miss Karen Gemeinhardt doing the narrating assisted by the audience singing ap- propriate Christmas Carols, were all thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Rev, George Youmatoff, sang a very beautiful solo number "0 Holy Night" accompanied by the church organist Mrs. Don Johnson. The highlight of the after- noon was the arrival of Santa Claus who distributed gifts to all the children, assisted by An- drew Erickson. A lovely lunch and treats for the children were all donated by the ladies guild of Trinity Church. MIXED EUCHRE CLUB The Christmas social evening of the mixed euchre club was held in the Municipal Building Wed. evening, Dec, 13 with 20 members present. Prizes were won by Dorothy Merner, Vina Parker, Frank McClinchey and Brown Lind- say. the next meeting will be on Wed. evening, January 10. LADIES GUILD Trinity Anglican Church Ladies' Guild met at the home of Mrs. Bessie Hulls, Tuesday evening, Dec. 12; eight members and. one guest Mrs. Harry Baker were present. a. The meeting opened by. the president, Mrs, Vina Parker, with a reading "Chris,triqc the WOr 171,1' giregi particularly the celebrations ,in- Austria. The LordS Prayer was repeated in unison and the Rec- tor read the lesson him the Gospel of St. Luke. The secretary, Mrs. Greta Scotchmer, gave her report, which was adopted. Cards of thanks for flowers and cards were, received and filed. The treasurer, Mrs. Lorna Merner, gave her report, moved it s adoption, seconded by Mrs. Maude Weston and moved all outstanding bills be paid. Mrs. Fib Youmatoff and Mrs. Lorna Merner paid birthday money. The Sunday School party was finalized to be held Sunday afternoon in the Parish Hall; the Guild to provide lunch. Mrs. Ruby Fitzsimons, Mrs. Bessie Hulls arid Mrs. Lorna Merner will present a slate of officers at the January meeting to be held January 9 at the home of Mrs. Greta Scotchmer. The Rector requested our assistance in purchasing special• paper for our Church Bulletin. This was approved. A delicious lunch was served by the hostess whose husband Fred is the People' Warden. She was assisted by Mrs. Harry Baker, wife of the Minister's Warden, PERSONALS Miss Rhea Sturgeon, Lon. don, was a weekend guest of her parents Mr, and Mrs. J, 13. Sturgeon, and brothers Bud and Andrew. Miss Barbara Graham, Fan- shawe College London,'is spen- ding her winter vacation with her parents and family, Mr. and Mrs, Pat Graham, Nancy and John. Mrs. Norman F. Cooper, Mount Clemens, Michigan is spending a few weeks at their village residence. Mr. Bud Robinson, Cobalt and Mr. Calvin Scotchmer, Iroquois Falls, have taken up residence in the Riley home on Keith Crescent. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Leney, London, were registered guests in the Albion Hotel for the weekend. A warm welcome to new residents Mr, and Mrs. Harold Bonthron (formerly Hensel)) who are -now residing in their home purchased from Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Scotchmer, overlooking the Bayfield River. Reeve Oddleifson reported on his attendance at County Council and spoke of the Of- ficial Plan for the County, if passed by the Government, will be another "first" for Huron County, In other business, Council endorsed a resolution passed by the Clerk-Treasurers Association on Nov, 22, 1972, that a letter be sent to the Huron County Board of Education, stating that payments be made twice yearly, an June 30 and December 15; filed a request from Essex County Flood Relief Fund requesting a donation to aid the flood victims along Lake Erie and Pelee Island; authorized Road Foreman John Lindsay to purchase flares for the road grader; and were informed by Clerk Graham that $2000 had been allocated to the Village from the Provincial Government for the Winter Works Incentive Program and suggested it be used to complete the work on the Community Centre. The next meeting will ab at the call of the Reeve.
