Clinton Public Works employee Doug Kennedy was busy
most of the night opening up sewers following a rain
storm that dumped over an inch of rain on the district
recently. Clinton has received a total of 19 inches of snow
in the last week and winter doesn't even officially start un-
til December 22! (News-Record photo)

bold their Christmas meeting
Thursday afternoon at the
Church. Mrs, James McAllister
opened the meeting with .scrip-
ture followed by prayer, Mrs.
Cordon Love • gave the
devotional, and took as her'
theme The Spirit of Christmas.
Mrs. McAllister spoke on
Philips Brook's Christmas gift
when he wrote the words "O
Little-Town of Bethlehem," the
music of which was written by
Lewis .Redner, Mrs. E, Luther
and' Mrs. C. Britton rendered
an inspiring duet "Star of the
East", accompanied by Mrs. T.
Sherritt on the piano.
The hostesses Mrs. Pyrn and
,Mrs. Ferguson took up the of-
fering. Mrs. McAllister told a
folk tale by Finnish gypies-
"The Good Night". Those con-
tributing readings were Mrs,
Pym, Mrs. Riley, Mrs, Luther,
Mrs. Purdy, Mrs. Errat, Mrs.
Peck, Mrs. Britton, Mrs.
Sherritt conducted a contest
and gave the treasurer's report.
Lunch was served by the coin-
- mittee in charge.
ARONOLD CIRCLE
The Christmas meeting of the
Arnold Circle of the Carmel
Presbyterian Church was held
at the home of Mrs, Joanne
Bell. President Mrs. Marg Van-
stone presided and opened with
a prayer. A motion was made
to have sunshine pals again for
next year. Roll call was an-
swered with a Christmas carol,
Thirty-four visits were recorded
to have been made since last
meeting. The worship was con-
ducted by Mrs. Janice Baker
and Mrs. Donna Bell. A Christ-
mas theme "Unto you is born
this day" was presented. The
offering and littlest coin were
taken up. The new slate of of-
ficers for 1973 are as follows:
president, Mrs. Joanne Bell;
vice-president, Mrs. .Marg
Baker; secretary, Mrs. Donna
Bell; treasurer, Mrs, Marilyn
Campbell; flower fund, Mrs.
Janice Baker; phone commit-
tee, Mrs. Erlene Stewart.

ADVENT SERVICE
At the Advent 111 service in
Hensel! Unit&I Church Sunday
morning, Melissa Veal lit the
third advent candle. Rev, Don
Beck preached on the sermon
topic "God in-the-midst". The
choir sang the anthem "Go tell
it on the mountain".
Sunday evening, the White
Gift Carol Service was held.
The Junior choir contributed
two numbers "In a Lowly
Manger" and "Let's Remember
Christmas and the Senoir choir
sang the anthem "Come and
Worship". A Choral reading
taken from Psalms 98 was
given by the Intermediate Class
from Sunday School.
The McGregor family—Jim
and Betty, Mary Jane, Stephen,
Murray, Mark and Michael
dramitized a Christmas story
using scripture lessons from
Luke, Matthew and Corin-
thians. Karen McAllister on
the piano and Mrs. Turkheim
on the organ contributed two
very beautiful duets. Christmas
carols were enjoyed throughout
the service.
Next Sunday morning will be
the Christmas service with the
Sacrament of Infant Baptism
and Sunday evening will be the
celebration of the Lord's sup-
per.
OBITUARY
A well known Hensall
resident Mrs. Norman Cook,
the former Elizabeth M. Thom-
pson, passed away suddenly
Saturday December 16, 1972, in
her 79th year.
She was the dear mother of
Robert and Douglas of Hensall;
Dr. Norma Hopkinson, Lion's
Head; and Mrs. Gary (Eleanor)
Corlett, Toronto. 12 grand-
children also survive. Her
husband Norman Cook passed
away November 14, 1972.
The body rested at the Bon-
thron Funeral Chapel Hensall
where funeral service was held
Tuesday December 19 at 2 p.m.
with Rev. Don Beck officiating.
Interment was in Exeter
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Howard
Scene, Joe McLellan, ain Fair-
burn, Bob Reabrun, Bill Petty
and Earl Rowe.
Flower bearers were four-
grandchildren.

CHRISTMAS MEETING,
The Christmas meeting of the
Chiselhurst U.C.W. wag held it
the sanctuary of the Church„
Mrs. Marg Cole, president,'
presided and opened with a
poem followed by the Lord's
Prayer. Thirteen members and
six guests answered the roll
call. Mrs. Dorothy Parker gave
the worship message entitled
"The Bethlehem Star" and•
Mrs. Vera Ross played a
medley of Christinas songs on
the piano for the programme.
Some ladies volunteered to
help wrap gifts for the
Children's Aid in Exeter. Mrs.
Dorothy Parker and Mrs.
Dorothy Brintnell were appoin-
ted as the visiting committee
for January. Rev. Don Beck
gave a very inspiring Christmas
message,
The January meeting will
take the form of quilting and a
pot luck dinner.
Rev. Beck closed the meeting
with prayer. The hostesses were
Mrs. Ruth Brock and Mrs. Erla
Coleman.
HENSALL W.I. MEETS
The Christmas meeting of the
Hensall Women's Institute was
held in the Legion Hall, which
was beautifully decorated by
hostesses Mrs. C. Payne and.
PERSONALS
The Ladies' Aid of Carmel
Presbyterian Church met for a
short meeting Thursday after-
noon at the Church, where they
packed 20 boxes to distribute
among the sick, shut-in and
elderly of the Church.
Last Wednesday evening, 41
Senior Citizens of Hensall went
on a Christmas light viewing
tour to Goderich, After seeing
many beautiful lighting
arrangements the bus tour
went to the Psychiatric
Hospital near Goderich, for a
Christmas entertainment
programme sponsored by The
Hensall Kinsmen and Kinettes.

surgery. We hope he will soon

son attended the Don Holtz
Christmas Party held in
Walkerton on Saturday
evening.
Auxiliary Money Doll Draw
was made, Mrs. Marg Vanstone
was the lucky winner of the
doll valued at $25. Cindy
Bisback drew the Winning ticket.
Mrs. Rachel Schwalm repor-
ted this week that she had seen
a crow iharbouring around her
Place lately and says that it
stays here all year round, and
can be heard cawing every now
and then even in the bad snow
storm,
Brenda Pepper, daughter of
Mr, and Mrs. Cecil Pepper
received word this week that
she had passed with honors her
Grade 5 music exam from the
Western Ontario Conservatory
of Music held in Goderich
recently. Brenda is a pupil of
Mrs, Frank Forrest.
A euchre party, sponsored by
the C.P, & T Committee was
held ,in the Lodge rooms last
Friday evening. Due to the
weather conditions, only five
tables were in play. Winners
are as follows: ladies high:
Mrs. Howard Lemmon; ladies
low Mrs. Alex McBeath; mens
high Lorne Hay; mens low
Clarence Volland; lone hands,
Mrs. Nellie Riley.
A draw for a box of
chocolates was won by Mrs.
R.A. Orr and a bag of oranges
was won by Mrs. Ross Richard-
son. The proceeds from this
euchre went to buy poinsettias
for the shut-ins
Mrs. Wayne Hoegy and Scott
of R.R. 1 Dublin spent Sunday
afternoon with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Dale and Cheryl.
Mrs. Ben Riley spent a few
days the past week with Mr.
and Mrs. Doug Riley and
family of Huron Park.
