Bayfield.
After getting off to a shaky
start this season, the Clinton
Colts have found the winning
way and are unbeaten in their
last three games,
A week ago the Colts romped
over unbeaten and league
leaders, Listowel Jets 7-3. Then
last Friday night in Listowel,
the Colts completely outplayed
the Jets but could only manage
a 4-4 tie. Colt scorers were Greg
Burns, Ken Daer, Mel Hohner
and Ken "Sugar" Meriam. The
score was 2-1 after the first for
the Colts and 4-4 after the
second period.
Although there was no
scoring in the third, the Colts
hit three goal posts and were
disallowed a goal by Ken Daer.
Playing at home last Sunday
night the Colts stampeded over
the Lucknow Sepoys 8-1,
Ken Meriam led all Colt
scorers with three goals he has
found the change from defence
to right wing to his liking.
Playing with centre Greg Burns
and left winger Bud Boyes.,
Meriam's line controlled play
on every shift and racked up
ten scoring points.
Other scorers were Greg
Burns, Ken Deer, Mel Rohner
more, Laurie Calquhoun
(playing his first game in a Colt
uniform) and Ken Daer,
Now that Ken Daer is
playing (two goals in two
games) he has vacated his
coaching job. He should be
given quite a lot of credit for
the job he has done shaping the
club into a contender this year.
Resulting from this action,
the Colts are pleased to an-
nounce that Danny Colquhoun
has agreed to coach the club
and will begin immediately
directing practises and games.
He is well-known in the com-
munity and has many years of
experience as he played with
the "Old Clinton Colts" when
they were the cream of the crop
in the area.
Another new addition on the
club is Rick Fortune who has
been playing "on and off" fox
the Seaforth Beavers. He is a
goaltender and will share
duties with Colts' No. 1 goalie,
Dennis Fleischauer, Rick
begins practises with the Colts
this week.
Next game for the Colts is
this Saturday night when they
travel to Listowel for the last
time to play the Jets at 8:30. A
doubtful starter is Mel Hohner
who tore ligaments in his foot
in the Lucknow game.
The Colts travel to Lucknow
on the 29th of December and
play in Milverton on January
the 7th at 2:00. Next home
game for the Colts is next
Friday (Jan. 5) at 8:30 against
the Lucknow Sepoys.
Colts record stands at three
wins, one tie and four losses.

Merry Christmas!
But let us not be so carried away with being "Merry", that we
forget the real reason for our joy. Let us remember that it is the
example, teachings and sacrifice of the One whose birth we
celebrate that has given the opportunity to live in freedom. We can
be truly thankful that He has, given each one of us an intrinsic
valUe. We can be quite critical of Canada but is 'there any other
place that many of us would prefer to make our home's?
Would you exchange places with the Chinese, the people of In-
dia or the African native?
i Why not? These countries have as long a history as we. These
countries are just as well blessed with natural resources and in-
telligent people.
As far as I am concerned, the difference is due to the fact that
the teaching of Jesus spread westward but was not accepted to the
East or South.
Some years ago I read an article on the spread of Christianity
which told that the disciple Thomas went eastward into India
spreading the gospel, Unfortunately, after his death the people he
taught decided that his teachings should be carefully guarded and
should not. be translated into the local language. As a result
Christianity never spread and shortly was forgotten. There is also
evidence that some smattering of the teachings of the New
Testament was carried into Africa but failed acceptance,
Perhaps it was due to the expanse of' the Roman Empire that
Christianity spread and man gained individual confidence and
lost his fear of the unknown,
When fear disappeared, man began to learn of the things around
him. I wonder if we would ever have had electrical power to serve
us if we had continued to believe that thunder and lightening were
an expression of the wrath of the gods? I wonder if we would have
developed our medical profession if we believed that sickness was
a punishment for our mistakes?'
I wish all of you a Merry Christmas. You will be joyful with
your families and friends. You will find joy in the gifts you give
and receive but the greatest of all is the gift of the Babe of
Bethlehem,
