their Christmas Assembly last Friday. Mr. Denomme is retiring from the school at the end of
this year after serving pupils and teachers as a custodian for 33 years. He was presented

Later the folks all enjoyed a
bountiful lunch.
Then, little Miss Judy Wise
appropriately costumed danced
the Jingle Bell Polka to music
played by Mrs. Zablocki, Then
as quiet music was played,
Judy read the poem "The Gift
of Christmas".
Craig Cox of Clinton was the
winner of the $500 draw at the
Clinton Kinsmen Club Stag
night held at the Community
Centre on Friday last.
The following people each
won $25, Unless otherwise

The annual meeting of 'the
A.C.W. of St. James, Mid-
dleton, was held Thursday
evening December the seventh
at the home of Mrs. Stewart
Middleton,
All the regular members
were present and one visitor,
The' president, Mrs. Don
Middleton, extended a warm
welcome. The theme of the
meeting was 'Good News" and
Mrs. Keith Miller and Mrs.
Youmatoff were in charge of
the Meditations, Mrs.
Youmatoff read the Christmas
Scripture lesson. The Rector
read the hymn "Good Christian
Men Rejoice", while Mrs, Ed-
ward Wise accompanied him
softly on the piano. Carols were
sung and 'Mrs, Miller read a
Christmas poem "If Christ had
not been born".
The president read excerpts
from the monthly newsletter,
stressing "Nurture, outreach
and Services".
Several members volunteered
to "man" the hospital cart.
A "thank you" was received
from Mrs. Joseph Storey, It was
decided to renew the Rev. Mr.
Harrison's subscription to The
News Record and also to send
him a Christmas card from all
present at this meeting. It was
also decided to have a "bee" to
decorate the church. The
church mothers may do this
labour of love, while their
children are at choir practice.
The Prayer Partner secretary
Mrs. Joseph Storey, passed
around a beautiful Christmas
Card, received from Miss
Yasika Wonaka, of Japan, our
unit's prayer partner for many
years. A group card was also
sent to her.

nual meeting, reports were
received showing that the cen-
tennial year had been one of in-
creased activity and income.
Mrs. Dutot gave the
treasurer's report, Mrs. Keith
Miller the Dorcus Supply and
Mrs, John Smith the card
secretary's. Mrs. Ed. Wise
reported for the centennial
plates, hasti notes and Christ-
mas cards, there are still some
for sale. Mrs, Dutot reported
405 recipe books made and
sold, a lucrative venture. Mrs.
Storey reported for the
travelling basket.
Mr, and Mrs. Youmatoff
both voiced their appreciation
of the work done by the A.C.W.
group under the splendid
leadership of president, Mrs.
Don Middleton. "It has been a
year of co-operation and
sustained effort," he said.
Monies were voted to the
Board of Management, to the
organists, Mrs. Joseph Storey
and Mrs. Edward Wise to the
fireman, Donald Middleton;
also a sum for renovations to
the Sunday School.

turkey to a needy family,
chosen by the Children's Aid,
Mrs. Middleton vacated the
Presidential chair and asked
Mr, Youmatoff to act as chair-
man for the election of officers.
Mrs, Ray Wise and Mrs. Cole
presented the following slate of
officers for 1973: honorary
president, Mrs. Fred Mid-
dleton; president, Mrs. Donald
Middleton; vice-president, Mrs.
Ray Wise; recording secretary,
Mrs. James Storey; correspon-
ding secretary, Mrs, Jack Cole;
press secretary, Mrs. Stewart
Middleton; treasurer, Mrs. Ed-
ward Wise; dorcas supply, Mrs.
Alvin Dutot and Mrs. Keith
Miller, social and cards, Mrs.
John Smith.
The Rector closed the
meeting with prayer, Carols
were sung and an impromptu
unrehearsed duet by Philip
Heitbohmer and Mrs. Wilfrid
Jervis delighted those present.
They sang the familiar carol "0
Tannenbaum" (Fir tree) in its
original German.
The hostess assisted by Mrs.
Philip Heitbohmer and Mrs.
Storey served a bounteous
lunch,
Everything seems set for
"go" for the centennial year
plus one!
CHURCH NEWS
On Sunday December the
seventeenth in place of the
regular morning Prayer in St.
James, Middleton, the nine
lesson Carol Service traditional
to the Christmas season will be
held.
St. James will combine this
with a white Gift offering. It is
suggested to bring canned food
etc, also, clothingfor a needy
family, sizes designated: on a
church bulletin. These are for a
needy family through the
Children's Aid Society.
Mr. Youmatoff stated "We
who live like kings can surely
bring something to church for
those less fortunate in the true
spirit of Christmas."
"I can't resist asking people
not to kill themselves. It has
always seemed to me to be a
reasonable and friendly
request." Paul Jones, safety ex-
pert, quoted by the Ontario
Safety League.
The afternoon Unit of
Wesley-Willis United Church ,
Clinton met at the home of
Mrs. Frank Fingland for their
Christmas meeting on Dec.
13th at 2 pm.
There were 24 members and
5 visitors in attendance. The
president Mrs. Cliff Stewart
presided and welcomed
everyone ' and thanked Mrs.
Fingland for the fellowship and
hospitality of her home for this
meeting.
After singing a few carols
and prayer by the president, the
minutes were read and ap-
proved and the treasurer's
report was given. The Visiting
Committee reported 21 home
and 9 hospital calls were made
the past month.
The offering was received
and dedicated. A presbyterial
bylaw was submitted and
signed. Mrs. Davies, the UCW
president submitted

the overall executive, This was °
accepted. The overall objective
for the Church has been raised
for 1973.
It was announced that the
Carol and Candlelight service
for Dec. 17th was to take place
in Ont. St. Church while a
similar service was to take
place in Wesley-Willis Church
on Dec. 24 at 7:30 pm.
Mrs. Fingland conducted a
short worship service and read
some poems. Mrs. N. Holland
gave a paper on the poverty in
`t-India". Mrs. Fingland read
excerpts from "Dickens Christ-
mas Carol." Mrs. Nelson gave

Trio plead
guilty to.
charge
Van .Russell White, 20, of
Vanastra, was sentenced to
four months in jail by Provin-
cial Judge Glenn Rays Monday
for breaking into Wettlaufer's
Feed Mill, Clinton, Oct, 11.
Donald John Joseph :Goebel,
10, of Kitchener, was placed on
12 months probation for
breaking into the mill,
The pair pleaded guilty to
the charge in provincial court
last week..
A third man, Kenneth Albert
Liebold, 19, of R.R, 2 Clinton,
Thursday received a year in
jail, He also pleaded guilty to
the charge,
The trio was found inside the
mill by Clinton Constable

THIRSTY TREES
ARE DANGEROUS
A Christmas tree's beauty
can turn into a fiery nightmare
if safety precautions are forgot-
ten, Consumers' Association of
Canada urges that when erec-
ting a Christmas evergreen,
consumers re-cut its butt
diagonally. The tree should
then be stood in water and the
water supply maintained •for
the duration of the tree's use.
Miss Marie Plunkett of Auburn
won $342.50 on
a reading "I am a Christmas
Tree." Mrs. C. Stewart gave
the "Legend of the Christmas
Rose" and "A Child's Christ-
mas Prayer". The Mizpah
closed that part of the
programme. Some contests
were enjoyed, They were con-
ducted by Mrs. Hearn and Mrs.
Fingland.
