Christmas trees can be a real danger
There will be a merrier Christmas for 95 children in Clinton and district because of the kind-
ness of all the women's groups in Clinton who donated their time and effort packing ham-
pers for the needy children. The Clinton Lions and Kinsmen Clubs wilt deliver the hampers.
Pictured are a few of the ladies who helped under the guidance of Mrs. Florence Carrie
(seated). Families missed are asked to contact the CAS office in Goderich.
May the good cheer of Christmas brighten
every home, lighten every heart. Especially,
may you and yours have a wonderful holiday.

The one hundredth baby for

was delivered on December 15.
He is the son of Mr, and Mrs
Gerrit Wilts of Londesboro.
It is the time for staff parties-
-perhaps the only time of the
year when all the members of a
large staff get together, We had
a happy evening last Saturday
with people we know better by
their telephone voices than in
person, when the Signal-Star

Christmas party. Our hope is
that other groups have as
pleasant an evening. •

A VERY MERRY
CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE.
Children and adults alike en-
joy trimming the holiday tree.
However, remember to take
precautions with your Christ-
mas tree and evergreen
decorations. The longer they
are in the house, the greater
fire hazard they become, says
R,A. Fleming, horticultural
specialist, Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food,
First, be sure the tree you ob-
tain is fresh. Many trees are cut
several weeks ahead and can be
quite dry when sold, Keep the
tree outside until you are ready
to decorate it, since the at-
mosphere in most homes is very
dry. Just before Christmas,
make a fresh cut about two in-
ches up the trunk, To help keep
the tree from drying out, the
end of the trunk should be set
in a container of water. Make
sure the tree-stand is sturdy
enough to support the tree.
Check the water level often,
It is surprising how much water
Milk farmers
get boost
The dairy farmers of Ontario
who produce milk for table use
are to receive an additional 35
cents per hundredweight for
milk effective January 1, 1973,
it was announced last week by
George McLaughlin, chairman
of the Ontario Milk Marketing
Board. The increase follows a
ruling of The Milk Commission
of Ontario after hearing an ap-
peal made by the dairies
against a larger increase
proposed by the Board,
Although the figure amounts
to less than a cent a quart to
the dairy farmer, it is not
known at this time what the ef-
fect on the consumer price will
be. Wholesale and retail prices
are established by individual
dairies and stores in response
to competitive forces,
In announcing the milk
producers' first increase since
September 1971, Mr.
McLaughlin stated that the 35
cent per hundredweight figure
represented less than a five per
cent increase in the price for
fluid milk and did not in fact
reflect the increases in costs
which the dairy farmer has had
to face over the last 16 months.
The Management and Staff
of
Scholl's Food Market
would like to extend
SEASONS GREETINGS
to one and all !
is absorbed by the tree and the
atmosphere of many homes.
There should always be water
around the base of the trunk,
Evergreen boughs used in
wreaths, centerpieces and other
holiday decorations should also
be placed in small containers of
water and refilled daily if
necessary. Dispose of these
decorations as soon as possible
after Christmas.
Check all Christmas lights
for frayed wires and broken
sockets. Repair or replace
before using. Keep the tree and
other evergreen decorations
away from fireplaces, hot air
registers and radiators.
Enjoy your tree and have a
safe, happy holiday!
