Huron County's 25th annual achievement held in Clinton

A grade 13 student at the
South Huron District
High School, Beth Passmore
was named the All-Round 4-H
member at Huron County's
25th annual 4-1-1 Achievement
Night held in Clinton. Friday
night.
Beth, the 18 year old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Lorne Passmore, R, R. 3
Exeter, won the Robert
McKinley Citizenship trophy
awarded annually for par-
ticipation ,in 4-H, home and
community activities.
For completion of 24 4-H
agricultural projects, with a
proficiency rating of over 75
percent in each of them, Beth
earned a 4-H award certificate
donated by the county's 4-H
Club Leaders Association.
A total of $1000 in cash,
along with certificates, plaques,
awards and prizes was presen-
ted to 350 4-H members from
across the county who this past
season formed 28 clubs, Presen-
tation of the special awards
was made by the county's
agricultural representative Don
Pullen, Clinton,
A 90 percent completion was
achieved among the members,
said Len MacGregor, extension
assistant with the county
branch of the Ontario Ministry
of Agriculture and Food. It was
his job to co-ordinate the 4-H
agricultural program, with the
leadership provided by 65
volunteer leaders.

'County Board of Education
were relayed by John Broad-
foot of Brucefield, Assisting in
the program with the presen-
tation of awards were Mike
Miller, associate agricultural
representative, and Sam Brad-
shaw, engineering assistant.
Both are from the Ministry of-
fice located in Clinton.
June Alton, R, R. 2 Lucknow,
who scored 935 out of a
possible 1000 points in the
Lucknow 4-H Calf club," won
the C. S. MacNaughton Trophy
for having obtained the highest
4-H score in the county, and the
Canadian Imperial Bank of
Commerce award for holding
the highest score in 4-H dairy
clubs. — _
A 12 year old Seaforth girl,
Dianne Oldfield, captured the
Huron County's novice trophy,
donated this year by Elmer
Hayter, to the first year 4-H
member with the highest score.
Dianne's older brother,
Brian, as the champion 4-H
dairy showman, took the A. Y.
McLean trophy.
Six special awards went to the
Ed Miller family at R. R. 3,
Exeter. Brian, for having
achieved the highest score in
the 4-H beef clubs received the
Anstett -Jewellers award; for
the highest score, excluding
score on Hereford calf, the
Huron Hereford Association
award and a Blatchford Feeds
Ltd., trophy, for the highest
score in judging competition.
Barry Miller won the Huron
Hereford 'Association trophy for
championship Hereford
calf, and the Cook Division of
Gerbo Corporation trophy for
his championship white bean
exhibit. Their sister Barb held
the highest score in the Exeter
Sweet Corn Club, earning her
the Canadian Canners trophy.
Three daughters of Mr. and
Mrs. Keith Tyndall, R. R. 4
Clinton each took home a
special award. Susan took the
Blyth Agricultural Society and
Blyth Lions Club trophy for the
highest score in the Blyth-
Be!grave 4-H Beef Club; Karen
won a Canadian National
Exhibition shield as the high
novice judge in judging com-
petition, and their 11 year old
sister, Wendy, with the highest
score by a pre 4-H member in

Other special awards were
received by John Van Vliet, RR
2 Brussels, the Bank of Com-
merce award for his champion
gilt; and the Victoria and Grey
Trust Co., award as the
champion 4 -H swine
showman; Grant Vincent,
Belgrave, the Toronto
Dominion Bank award, cham-
pion -all-round showman and
the Murray Gaunt award, as
the champion, 4-H beef
showman; Greg Love, RR l
Zurich, the Huron Pork
Producers Association trophy,
for the highest score in the 4-H
Swine Club; Joan Wylie, RR 2
Clifford, the Cliff McNeil
trophy, for the champion 4-H
Holstein calf; Ken Menheere,
RR 4 Seaforth„ Bank of Mon-
treal, Clinton Branch award,
for the highest score as a first
year member of the 4-H Swine
Club.

Goderich, each won a Stewart
Procter award for the cham-
pion Shorthorn steer and the
champion Shorthorn heifer,
respectively; Charles Snell, RR
1 Clinton, Old Mill award, for
the highest score in a sheep
club; Jim Fairies, RR 2 Gorrie,
Vincent Farm Equipment
trophy, for the highest score in
a tractor club; Robert Stewart,
RR 1 Hensall, the Huron Soil
and Crop Improvement
sociation award for outstan-
ding achievement in the field
crop clubs; Barry Gordon, RR1
Seaforth, the W. G. Thompson
and Sons Ltd. trophy, for his
championship grain exhibit;
John Underwood, R.R. 1
Wingham, the Russell Bolton
trophy for the championship
corn exhibit.

Marion DeGroot, RR 2 Blyth;
Cathy Malcolm, Varna; Bill

field.

In recognition of the volun-
tary services lent in leadership
for the 4-H club members, a 20
year certificate was presented

Lucknow; 10 years certificate to
Ross Eedy, R.R. 1 Dungannon,
Glen Walden, R,R. 2 Lucknow
and Murray Scott, R,11. t
Belgrave; five yelr certificates

had four other clubs which did
not record the ratings of the
members, They included the
Huron County Farm and Home
Electrical Club and the Senior
4-H Dairy Management Club,
both of which saw a 100 per-
cent completion by the mem-
bers and the South Huron and
the North Huron Snowmobile
Clubs.
