puts on annual fun night Auburn W.1

Gay Christmas decorations
adorned the Auburn •Com-
munity Memorial Hall for the
annual family night put on by
the W9111011'S Institute mem-
bers.
The JiortioulturaI Society
members and their families
were guests along with the two
4-H club members and families,
The president, Mrs. Donald
Cartwright, welcomed the 135
assembled and Pastor Alfred
Fry pronounced the grace, A
delicious smorgasbord dinner
was served. Many of the dishes
that the 4-H girls had learned
to make. Pastor Fry led in a
sing-song .of Christmas carols
with. Mrs, Robert Phillips at
the piano. A piano solo was
played by Wanda Plaetzeroand
Lorraine Chaniney sang the
solo, "Bless This House", ac-
companied by Doris Naylor.
Rev. Keith Stokes, rector of
St. Mark's Anglican Church
gave an inspiring Christmas
message stressing the meaning
of sharing at this time and all
through the year. ,Greetings
from the Village of Auburn was
brought by the clerk, Mr. Frank
Raithby and Mrs. Gordon
Taylor, president of the Hor-
ticultural Society thanked the
W.I. members for the invitation-
to attend this Family Night
dinner. She then thanked all
who had assisted with the
flowerbeds, Duncan MacKay,
William J. Craig, Wilfred
Collinson and all others who
had kept the beds during the
summer.
Progressive euchre and
crokinole were played which
were convened by Mrs. Leonard
Archambault and Mrs. Donald
Cartwright. Winners were:igh
lady, Mrs. Myrtle Munro; low
lady, Mrs. Roy Daer; high man,
Leonard Archambault, low
man, Donald ,Cartwright. Win-
ners at crokinole were Joe
Postill and Mrs. Alfred Fry.
The program committee con-
sisted of Mrs. Leonard Archam-
bault, Mrs. Robert Phillips and
Mrs. Robert Turner. Dinner
committee included Mrs.
Donald Haines, Mrs. William
Clark, Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer
and Mrs. James Jackson.
WALKERBURN CLUB
The November meeting of the
Walkerburn Club was held at,
the home, of Mrs. Leonard Ar r .
chambanit. The president, Mrs.
Elliott Lapp, opened the
meeting with 0 Canada
followed by prayer by Mrs.
John Hallam.
,The minutes of the previous
meeting were adopted as read
by the secretary, Mrs. Worthy
Young. The roll call was an-
swered by 16 members with
donations to _the penny sale.
The financial statement was
given by the treasurer, Mrs.
Lloyd McClinchey,
A new project for the Club
Members was planned when
members will visit the
Goderich Nursing Home and
assist in celebrating birthdays
of the patients each month.
A thank-you note was read
from Mr. and Mrs. John
Hallam who had recently
celebrated their 45th wedding
anniversary. It was decided to
hold the next meeting at the
home of Mrs. Ted Hunking on
December 27th. The program
will be in charge of Mrs. Ted
Hunking and Mrs. Henry
Hunking. Each member is to
bring Christmas cake or cookies
for lunch.
An interesting program of
contests was in charge of Mrs.
John Hallam and Mrs. Joe
Hunking. A penny sale was en.-
joyed by all with good prizes.
The draw was won by Mrs.
Henry Hunking. It had been
donated by Mrs. Aria Duizer. A
delicious lunch was served by
Mrs. Ted Hunking and Mrs.
Henry Hunking.
YOUTH CONDUCTED
SERVICE
Sunday last was another
refreshing time for the
congregation of Knox United
Church, not only was the Sun-
day School well attended, but
the Sanctuary was well filled
for the morning service. The
Junior COLT and the Ex-
plorers, under the direction of
their leaders, Mrs. Allan Web-
ster, Miss Brenda Archam-
bault, Miss Brenda Ball and
Miss Doreen McClinchey, con-
ducted a fine worship service.
The traditional Christmas
hymns were sung at the service.
Marilyn Wightman was in
charge of the serviqe, Vicki
Powell read a poem and Judy
Robinson led in the prayers,
The combined choirs sang the
"Hymn of Guidance" and the
Explorer's hymn.
Pastor Alfred Fry told the
children's story and gave a
brief message on "His Name
shall be called Wonderful",
Miss Doreen McClinchey
presided at the piano for the
choir number accompanied by
her brother, Douglas on the
guitar. Both the organist, Mrs.
Norman Wightman and Mrs.
Allan Webster presided at the
organ.
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
Mrs, Gordon Taylor
president of the Auburn Hor-
ticultural Society, held the
December executive in the
Town Hall last Thursday after-
noon, She reviewed briefly the
work done by the members
throughout the year and read a
poem "Christmas Joy". The
minutes of the previous
meeting were read by Mrs.
Beth Lansing.
A vote of thanks was ten-
dered to all those who had
assisted in mowing grass
around :the letters, Manchester
Garden, .flower beds and .flower
boxes. Plans were made to put
Santa and his reindeers on the
St. Mark's. Anglican church
lawn and the colored street
lights are lit now for the
holiday season. These jobs are
much appreciated by the
Society ,and it all lends a hand
to beautify our village.
PERSONALS
The sympathy of this com-
munity is extended to Mr, and
Mrs. Kart Teiehert and family
of Goderich, forther residents of
this village, on the sudden
death of her lather, .Mx%
Walter Weimann of Seafortb.
Also sympathy to former
residents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter
fiellinga. and family of Sault
Ste, Marie, another daughter of
the late Mr, Weimann.
The annual Carol service
sponsored by the Bible Society
will be held on Wednesday,
December 20th at 8 p.m. in
Knox United Church, Please
note the change in day.
