with two goals while Lucan

mings,
The_ Mustangs, kept their
playoff hopes alive with a 5-3
win in Strathroy last Sunday
night. No goal scorers were
available, but from information
gleamed from fans who jour-
neyed to Strathroy, the
Mustangs played as well as
they did against league leading
Exeter who were handed their
only defeat this season by Clin-
ton.
The Mustangs are still in
seventh place, only seven points
out of second spot. Exeter is
away out front with 26 points.
Next game is this Friday
night when Belmont visit Clin-
ton and the Mustangs travel to
Tavistock next Thursday night
(December 21): Results of last
night's game at Lucan were not
available at press-time.
'scorers for Clinton, Ont. were
G. Heinel assisted by Dan Proc-
tor and Craig Miller. Craig
Miller assisted by G.Heipel,
Brad Morgan assisted by Larry
Rhiel.
In game two against
Syracuse, the score was 7-1 for
Syracuse. Scoring for Clinton
was Danny Proctor assisted by
Larry Rhiel and Brad Morgan.
Dan Proctor received a trophy
for best all around player in the
second game.
Clinton,, New York won the
third game by a 6-1 score.
Scoring the lone goal for Clin-
ton, Ont. was Brad Morgan
assisted by Larry Rhiel and
Tim Bird.
A return engagement is to be
played here sometime in
January 1973.
Squirt lose
Last Saturday evening a
team made up of the Novice
(squirt) A and B players
travelled to Goderich to play
an all star "B" team. Goderich
won 2-1, scoring the winning
goal in the last few seconds of
the game.
As it turned out, the teams
were so evenly matched the
game could have gone either
way. Peter Anstett scored Clin-
ton's only goal unassisted, Jeff
Sowerby and Mark Rowe
scored for Goderich.
The Clinton Colts sparked by
Paul Draper's four goal perfor-
mance , dropped the league
leading Listowel Jets 7-3 last
Sunday night at the local
arena.
The defeat was the first of
the year suffered by the Jets as
they had won nine in a row in-
chiding three exhibition games.
On the line with Rick
Fremlin and Don MacDougall,
Draper scored once in the first
period, twice in the second and
again at the 14 second mark of
the third. Being the best line, on
the ice from the opening face-
off they relentlessly
forechecked and backchecked
and accumulated 11 points on
the score sheet. Other Colt
scorers were Rick Fremlin,
Dean Reid and Bud Boyes.
At the game played last
Thursday night here, the Colts
dropped a 9-6 decision to the
Lucknow Sepoys. The Colts
played well in the first two
periods but simply collapsed in
the third. Goal scorers were
Greg Burns, Dean Reid, Paul
Draper, Don MacDougall, Bud
Boyes and Rick Fremlin.
Not only losing the hockey
game the Colts lost the. services
of one of their top defenceman
for the remainder of the year.
Derwin Carter fell heavily into
the vbpard$ and,, dislocated .his
shoulder again, An operation
on the shoulder is due in
January and with any success ,
Derwin will be playing next
year. His spirit and aggressive
play will be definitely missed
on the club.
This Friday night the Colts
are playing in Listowel against
the Jets. They then play hosts
to the Lucknow Sepoys Sunday
night at the Community Centre
at 8 p.m. In their first two
meetings with Lucknow,• the
final outcome hadn't been
determined until late in the
thrid period. The Sepoys are
young, quick, aggressive and
are definitely serious conten-
ders for top spot.
The Colts record stands at
two wins and four losses.
Exhibition games with the
Seaforth Beavers and the
Goderich Sailors are being
arranged and the dates will be
soon available.
Returning to the lineup
Friday night in Listowel will be
Ken Daer and his presence
should be noticed.
So don't forget the game
Sunday night against Lucknow
as the Colts play host to them.
Starting time is 8 p.m.
Bantams still
The Fish and Game Bantams
extended their unbeaten streak
to nine games during the past
week with a tie and two more
victories.
Last Wednesday with a' 6-2
lead going into the third period
in Hensall, they came up with
their poorest period of hockey
of the season and blew the
lead, but luckily came out with
a 7-7 tie. Paul Priestan had
three goals, Neil Colquhoun
two, Frank Flynn and Dave
Clynick one each.
Saturday night at home,
Seaforth were the victims in a
6-1 game. Neil Colquhoun had
three, Alan Taylor, Bill Roy
and Frank Flynn one each.
Monday in the first meeting
Clinton Midget Lions jour-
neyed to Goderich last Sunday
and suffered a 5-1 defeat.
Goderich opened the score with
a goal by Worgan assisted by
Shelton. Then, in the second
period Goderich scored another
by Palmer, assisted by Meriam.
After two periods of hard
hockey, Don McDonald scored,
assisted by Randy Miller. The
score was 2-1. Then Shelton
scored assisted by Arbour, With
40 seconds left to play, coach
Bob Cook pulled goalie Dean
Ryan and Arbour unassisted,
scored in the empty Clinton
net.
To end the score, and the
game, Arbour scored with 10
seconds left to play on a break-
away.

walloped Mitchell 9-5 in a
rugged contest, Dave Clynick
and Mike Gibbings had two
goals each while singles went to
John Feeney, Paul Priestap,
Rob Heard, Frank Flynn and
Neil Colquhoun. A penalty shot
attempt by Mitchell was thwar-

third period at a time when
Mitchell were pressing and a
repeat of the Hensall game
collapse appeared possible. Af-
ter it, Clinton picked up two
goals, to salt the game away.
Mitchell plays a return game
in Clinton Saturday at 7 p.m.
Clinton defeated Zurich last
Saturday by a 1-0 score. Don
McDonald scored the only goal
