Cheerio Meeting
The Cheerio Club held their
meeting on Wednesday,
November 29 at the home of
Ena Howatt with 12 members
and two visitors present. The
meeting was opened with a
poem, "Christmas Prayer" by
the president, Ena Howatt
followed by hymn, "0 Little
Town of Bethlehem". Scripture
was read by Laura Lyon and
meditation read by Ena
Howatt. The minutes of the last
meeting were read by Ida Dur-
nin, A letter of thanks for $25
sent towards the saving of St.
Paul's Cathedral was read.
Roll call , was answered by
current events.
The next meeting will be on
January 31 with Group Two in
charge.
The draw was won by Gladys
Armstrong. The program was a
reading, "Grandma's Book" by
Dorothy Brurisdore readings
"The Bathroom", "The In-
stitute" and "Katie Tells
About her Husband" by Myrtle
Fairservice; reading "Santa
Claus' Cap" by Ida Durnin.
The meeting closed with a
poem "Wishing You Joy" by
Bea Howatt and the Lord's
Prayer,
All signed a get-well card to
be sent to Olive Gaunt in
Wingham Hospital and a
Christmas card to Mrs. Lillie
Webster, a shut-in. Euchre was
played and lunch was served by
hostesses, Ena Hawed, Dora
Shobbrook, Lillie Webster and
Olive Gaunt.
Ontario Fruit Course
On Wednesday evening, 24
ladies attended the short
course on Ontario Fruit in the
community hall when the
leaders Marjorie Duizer and
Elma Jewitt presented pam-
phlets "Ontario Fruits" to each
one present. These included
fruit charts, care and storage,
selection, processing, etc. also
recipes. Marjorie Duizer
demonstrated the making of
applesauce meat loaf and
cherry coconut delight. Elam
Jewitt made applesauce cake
and quick apple strudel. All
were treated to hot mulled
cider. Marjorie also demon-
strated artistry with fruits
using grapefruit and apples.
For lunch, all enjoyed samples
of the recipes demonstrated.
Marjorie Anderson thanked the
leaders and presented them
with a gift.
Personals
The first Sunday in Advent
was observed in St. Mark's
Anglican Church last Sunday
afternoon when the first Ad-
vent candle was lit by the rec-
tor, Rev. Keith Stokes. An Ad-
vent story was interestingly
told to the children, The theme
of his message was "Life in Bet-
ween".
The Area convener wishes to
thank all those who donated to
the Canadian • National In-
stitute for the Blind. This
district's donation of $167 has
been forwarded to the C.N,LB,
headquarters in London,
Mr, and Mrs. Harold Adams
of Clinton visited last Sunday
with Mrs, Beth Lansing.
The December meeting of the
Women's Missionary Society is
to be held at the home of Mrs,
Frances Clark on Wednesday,
December 13 at 8 p.m, Mrs.
John Pollock of Goderich will
be the guest speaker.
Mr. Arnold Craig is a patient
in Wingham hospital where he
will be confined with an in-
jured back.
KNOX UCW
The general meeting of the
Knox United Church Women
was held in the Sunday School
room of the church on Wed-
nesday evening, November 22,
Unit 3 was in charge.
The central theme of the
worship service was the Golden
Rule. Mrs. Ted East opened the
meeting with a hymn. Mrs.
George Million was the pianist.
The scripture was read by
Mrs. Arnold Cook followed by
prayer by Mrs. Harold Webster.
Mrs. East gave the meditation.
The offering was received by
Mrs. Elliott Lapp and Mrs. G.
McBride and dedicated.
A skit on Stewardship was
given by Mrs. Dorothy Grange
and Mrs. William L. Craig.
Mrs. Brian Hallam gave an
interesting talk on the topic of
remedial reading in special
.education programs in elemen-
tary schools.
Mrs. Harold Webster closed
this part of the meeting with
prayer.
Mrs. Ted East presided for
the business session. She
opened by reading "The Pur-
pose of the United Church
Women".

Miss Gail Miller of Toronto
was guest of honor at a bridal
shower last Friday evening in
the Sunday School room of
Knox United Church when
friends gathered to honor her
with a bridal -shower,
The room was attractively
decorated with fringed pink
streamers and pink paper leis
to two Chairs by Mrs. Allan
Craig.
The guest book was in the

Misses Nancy Anderson and
