The regular meeting of Amber
Rebekah Lodge was held Wed-
nesday evening in the Lodge
rooms with N.G, Mrs. Irene
Blackwell presiding and being
assisted by V-0, Mm, Aldene
Volland. The roll call of officers
was taken with eight officers ab-
sent. The .Vice-Grand reported
having sent a number of cards
to bereaved families and sick
and shut-in members, She also
reported that she had received a
substantial cheque for the sale
of magazines which goes toward
Benevolent work of the Lodges,
A report was read from Brother
Charles Hay reporting on equip-
ment owned by the C.P,T. Com-
mittee, wheelchairs, walkers and
crutches, which are in continual
use in the community,Anyone
getting the loan of this equip-
ment must sign for same and
will be held responsible until
returned to Brother Charles
Hay,
A donation was received from
Sister Mabel Whiteman to be
deposited in the card and flower
fund. There was much
discussion on the annual Christ-
mas party and on a elotion
made by Sister Aldene Volland
and seconded by Sister Vera
Lemmon, the Christmas party
will be held December 5 with
exchange of gifts among mem-
bers, the value to be a $1 or
more. The Social and Entertain-
ment Committee to be in charge
of the programme.
Happy Birthday was. sung to
Sister Mabel Whiteman and
Sister Leona Parke. After the
meeting, a. social hour was en-
joyed in the lower hall with •
lunch being provided by the
Vice-Grend„
UNITED CHURCH NOTES
For the first time in many
years, Hensel! 'United Church
has a candidate for the
Ministry. At the morning ser-
vice of worship, Rev. Don Beck
introduced to the congregation
Tom Travers, who is a Can-
didate for the Ministry of the
United Church of Canada, .Torn
read the first and second
Scripture Lessons.
With the Christmas season
fast approaching, the Junior and
Senior Choirs are hard at work.
Junior practise is on Thursday
night at 6;45 and Senior
practise is at 7:30, Both choirs
are in need of more members as
they are now working on special
Christmas music.
Sunday November 26 will be
a Youth Service with the service
being done entirely by the
Youth group with some help
from area young people,
OBITUARY
Norman E. Cook, Hensall,
passed away in Victoria
Hospital London, on November
14, 1972, in his 93rd year.
Mr. Cook was born in Zurich
and was the son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Cook who star-
in Hensel!. When he was 14
years of age he operated a
bicycle business with his elder
brother Cornelius. He worked
with his father in the
installation and operation of
electrical plants in Hensall,
Lucan and St. Joseph. On the
death of his father, he and his
brother took over Cook Milling
Company and started Cook
Bros, garage. He was president
of the Milling Company until
1964. Mr, Cook was a member
of the Hensall United Church
and the last surviving member
its Hensall of the Foresters'
Lodge,
He is survived by his wife, the
former Elizabeth Thompson;
two sons, Robert and Douglas,
Hensall; two daughters, Dr,
Norma Hopkinson, Lion's Head;
Mrs. Gary (Eleanor) Corlett,
Toronto, and twelve grand-
children,
The body rested at the Bon-
thron Funeral Chapel where
service was held on November
17, 1972 with Rev. Don Beck of-
ficiating. Interment was in
Exeter Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Walter
Spencer, Lloyd Venner, Howard
Scene, .Joe McLellan, Donald
Joynt and Bill Fairburn,
Flower bearers were four
grandchildren Carolyn Wilkin,
Joan Hopkinson, Cathy Cook
and Bryan Corlett.
ARNOLD CIRCLE
The Arnold Circle of Carmel
Presbyterian Church met Mon-
day evening at the Church. Vice-
President Joanne Bell presided
and opened the meeting a poem
entitled "Someone in the
Chapel", Worship session was
conducted by Mildred Bell and
Shirley Mousseau giving
thought to Remembrance Day.
The offering was received and
the Littlest coin collected.
Shirley Mousseau introduced
the guest speaker Mrs. Hicks of
Exeter, who showed lovely
slides of an African tour. Her
humorous commentary added
greatly to the enjoyment of the
pictures. Janice Baker thanked
her. A Secretary's report was
read, and a note was read from
Eric Luther thanking the Ar-
nold Circle for canvassing for
the Blind.
Next .months meeting a new
slate of officers is to be chosen.
Mildred Bell made a motion to
exchange Christmas gifts with
the Sunshine Pal with the value
not to be over $1.50, and Norma
Stretton seconded the motion.
Marilyn ,Campbell gave the
Treasurers report and Janice
Baker reported for the Flower
fund. The meeting closed with
the LordS Prayer, and Joanne
Bell and Mildred Bell served

The 4-11 girls and their moth-
ers were guests of the Nippon
East Women's institute when
they met at the Legion Hall,
Hensall for the Family and
Consumers Affairs meeting
November 15, Club I, the "Slick-
ing Cooks", demonstrated the
making of a chocolate Fondue
which was sampled later. Club
H, "Nippon Kabobs" put on a
skit, "Packing Herman's
Lunch." Mrs. William Bell pre-
sented'gifts to the leaders and
assistant leaders Mrs. R, Bell
and Mrs. C. Ferris, Mrs. Postrna,
Lynn Alderdice, Maureen Con-
nolly, Debbie Brodie, Mrs. A.
Hoggarth chaired the meeting
and gave several humorous
readings. — "It's all in the state
of mind," "Help my hips are
getting wider." Mrs. Glen 13e11
gave a reading :The Old Vio-
lin." Prizes were given to the
lady with the most buttons on
her dress, Linda Bell: Hankie
with lace, Mrs. William 'Bell:

Everyone participated in a very
amusing roll call. Mrs. M. Con-
nolly gave the Children's Aid
Society and Area convention
reports, Mrs. R. Bell reported
the District Board meeting'

ture and Canadian Industries
report; Mrs, William Bell, the
Education and Cultural Activi-
ties Report; Mrs. J. Drummond
reported Citizenship and World
Affairs; Mrs. H. Caldwell the
treasurer's report. Mrs. Wm.
Bell, Mrs. C. Eyre, Mrs. A. Mc-
Gregor were named a commit-
tee to arrange the Exeter Fair
List. Mrs, Stewart Pepper gave
courtesy remarks. Mrs. M, Con-
nolly chaired the _business, the
W.I. entertains 4-H
hostesses were Mrs. R. Bell and
Mrs. G, McLean. Mrs, H, Cald-
well and her committee served
lunch, Members are reminded

24.

have returned from Edmonton,

been a patient in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, has returned

Thusday evening the ladies of
St. Andrew's Church, Kippen
honoured Miss Louise Kirk
