This is the first time the Colts will play a team in their own, division of the W.O.A.A. (the South Division) as the win over the Durham Huskies was exhibition. The Colts would like to apologize to the fans that were planning to attend, the game against Lucknow last Thursday night and then came to the arena and were informed it was cancelled. Lucknow had infor- med the Colts Wednesday that they couldn't make the trip and it was too late to take posters down around town and post it noticeably in the News Record. Since then, the Colts haye been assured by league officials that this will not happen again. The Colts are playing in the W.0,A.A. this year to get seasoning and also support from their fans, Next year hopes are centred around playing in the league. Clinton Junior "D" Mustangs dropped a 5-2 decision to the Lambeth Flyers in a penalty plagued game at Clinton Corn- munity Centre last Friday night. The Flyers were hitting hard right from the opening face-off and succeeded in egging the Clinton team into battle for- mation early in the first period. In one first period confron- tation between Clinton and Lambeth, the Mustangs took the bad end of the deal when a Lambeth player hooked Bill Crawford Jr., sending him sprawling to the ice. Crawford got up with his fists flying and in the ensuing tangle, Crawford was given a ten minute major and a game misconduct. The Lambeth player went un- penalized. Lambeth held a 4-0 edge on Clinton until the seven minute mark of the third frame when Mike Anstett connected for his first of two goals of the evening. The passing game of the Mustangs; was plagued by in- juries to key players and the for- ward lines looked awkward and jerky at times. Gary Cummings, 25. Scorers were M. Cun- ningham 10 points, Patti Kay 3 points, Diane Chuter 8 points, Debbie Johnson 2 points, Nellie Van Wonder 2 points. This left *us second in Huron-Perth. We still went on to W.O.S.S,A. however, on Friday night and met a very tough Lambton team from Petrolia and lost to them by six points with a score of 29-23. Everyone played a good game and we should be proud of them for making it to W.O.S.S.A. Congratulations Girls! The team members were: Marlene Cunningham, Diane Chuter, Ruth Ann Neilans, Nellie Van Wonder, Pat Kay, Debbie Johnson, Bev. Slade, Janet McKinley, Maureen Ashead, Nancy Riley, Coby Am- sing, Cheryl Jefferson. Our score keeper was Marlene Dale and timer Michelle Flowers. Our coach was Miss Burch and a special thanks to her for coaching us. Also. this week the Colts were confronted with .challenges for home and home exhibition games against two clubs from the O.H.A. loop, The Seaforth Beavers and the newly-formed Goderich Sailors are both in- terested playing exhibition games throughout the year. The Colts have agreed to play both but not before they get more league games and practises. Tonight's game introduces the Colts to last year's finalists in In PeeWee House League ac- tion, the Canucks defeated the Canadians 5 to 1 in the first game. Larry Riehl scored three of the Canuck's goals with Stephen Blair and Robert Hart each scoring one. Brian Trewartha got two assists. Mark Bell scored the Canadians' goal, unassisted. a Mustang forward, was carried from the ice in the second period when he suffered a cartilage separation on his right knee af- ter taking a stiff board check. Prompted by Canada's per- formance at Olympics '72 and the country's reactions to the Canada-Russia International Hockey Series, the Federal Government is more concerned on this subject of Keeping-Fit than in the past. Why have we fallen into this situation? Some say our en- vironment rules out year round training, while others claim that we are a poor class of amateurs because the organizations plan- ning our destiny are very amateur in their approach, TRUE OR NOT? Our four• seasons do hamper efforts for year round training in track and field, hockey, and whatever olympic sports are played out- side in good weather. Facilities are very limited in many Canadian communities, In the Huron-Perth com- munity, a Teachers' Keep Fit Program has been introduced at the Stratford YM-YWCA in Stratford. Many teachers would be interested , but the long distance to and from Stratford, is a deterrent. No indoor pool exists in Huron County to cater to the needs, In Stratford, Garry Kaye, Program Director at the YM- YWCA has on the swimming staff a Debbie Bassett and Mike Kelly, who are doing wonders with the school children taking swimming lessons. For the teachers, Ken Hanson has shown on two occasions his ability to organize his team of instructors with our contribution of instructors; Miss Mary Sills, from St. Boniface School, Zurich, Andy Anderson, from Stratford Teachers' College, and Joseph Blythe, from St Patrick's School, Kinkora, who are all pioneer instructors in this new Teachers' Keep Fit Project introduced into the system October 24 in Stratford, Wintry weather results in the W.O.A.A, Grand Champion- ship, From all report% the Listowel Intermediates sound young and very tough. The Colts have been practising hard under Ken Deer's leadership and are slowly rounding back into shape. So don't let their drive towards a good Intermediate hockey team step. Come out' tonight and cheer the Colts on to victory! In the second game, although the Maple Leafs outplayed the Canucks, the Canucks got the goals, two by Larry Riehl, Joe McMahon one, Wayne Ducharme one, and Robert Hart one, Brian Trewartha got one assist. Gary Heipel, two and Bill Mitchell, one, The Leafs' only goal was scored by Craig Miller. The Mustangs travel to Tavistock this Friday and are back home again against Exeter Hawks next Sunday, November 26. Another project which was initiated last June became a reality when many officials arrived from Toronto to tour the facilities at Clinton on Tuesday, October 24, They are seriously considering reactivating this sports complex. The Federal Government will spent fifty (50) million to prepare for Olympics '76. They realize that Clinton offers some answers to the paramount problem of lack of faeilities. The former. Canadian Forces Base Clinton now called Vanastra has the following Sports and Recreation Training Facilities: skating arena, curling rink, main gym floor, eight (8) bowling alleys, weightlifting room, sport stores, swimming pool, indoor rifle range, tennis courts and sports fields.
