Who -choged -the name Holmesville United Church was decorated with gold can- delabra and arrangements of gold, bronzes, white shasta daisies with stems of wheat mixed through them for the wedding ceremony on Saturday October 14, 1972, which united in marriage Karon Ann Oakes, only daughter of Mr, and Mrs. R. Harry Oakes R.R. 2 Clinton, and Donald Ross Watson, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald J. Watson Clinton. Reverend Dr. Mowatt, Clin- ton performed the double ring ceremony and the organist, Mrs. James Lobb R,R. 2 Clinton ac- companied the soloist Miss Janette Johnston Belgrave, who sang "The Wedding Prayer", "The Lord's Prayer" and Walk Beside You", They wore matching floor length gowns of Autumn red Polyester crepe trimmed with white lace and styled the very same as her at- tendants. Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose a floor- length gown made of Chantilly lacer:Tiers upon tiere ;'of lace made the srtirt - With a five tier chantilly lace cathedral train attached to the skirt. The gown had modified bishop sleeves and a stand up collar. She wore a matching chantilly dome head- piece trimmed with crystals and pearls. It was held in place with a four tier shoulder length veil. She also wore a beautiful pin of pearls given to her by her Great Aunt. She carried a bouquet of orange rose buds and yellow shasta daisies. Maid of honour Miss Jean McVittie, Wingham, wore an A- line floor length gown of jade green polyester crepe with stand up collar and long puffed sleeves with french cuffs trim- med with white lace around the collar and bodice with a bow down the back. The bridesmaids were: Miss Shirley Meehan Blyth; Mrs. Gaye Kerr, Exeter, sister of the groom and Miss Susan Lobb, R.R. 2 Clinton. Their dresses were similar to the maid of honour but were harvest gold in color, They carried similar flowers, The flower girls were: Shelley Crawford, R.R. 2, Clinton; and Naomi Bird, R.R. 3 Clinton. They wore gowns the same as the maid of honor and carried small baskets filled with the same kind of flowers. Groomsman was Dave Wat- son, Sudbury, brother of the groom. Guests were ushered by Herb Oakes R.R. 2 Clinton, brother of the bride; Ernie Kerr, Exeter, brother-in-law of the groom; and Len Lobb R.R. 2, Clinton. Dinner followed in the church basement where guests were received by the bride's mother who chose a floor-length gown 9fJiMe-green<,hrOcaele with Icing. chiffon sleeves trimmed With beads around the neck line. She had white accessories and cor- sage of orange sweetheart roses. She was assisted by the groom's mother who wore a floor-length hot pink crimplene sleeveless gown With silver trimming on it, She had silver and white ac- cessories and a corsage of white miniature carnations. The wedding reception was at Clinton Legion Hall. Music for dancing Was provided by the Country Music Men. For travelling to Southern Ontario, the bride chose a floor- length Victorian-style dress with a deep purple top and a floral bottom, purple accessories, and a corsage of purple and white carnations and orange rose buds, The couple are residing in Clinton. The groom's parents enter- tained the wedding party at a smorgasbord dinner after the wedding rehearsal. Prior to her marriage, the bride was honored with showers given by Miss Susan Lobb and Mrs. Pat Dockstader at the home of Mrs. William Lobb, Mrs. Alvin Jones gave a surprise shower at the home of Mrs, Ray Bird, Miss Shirley Meehan, Miss Jean McVittie, Miss Janette Johnston and Mrs, Gaye Kerr entertained at a shower at the home of Mrs. Chas. Meehan, Blyth, The bride's mother held a trousseau tea in honor of her daughter. BY MRS WES BRAPNOCK When and who changed Auburn's main street to Elgin from Goderich Street was the question asked by Auburn ratepayers et the annual meeting held last Thursday evening in the Town hall. Chair- man Fred Wagner was in charge of the meeting which had a larger attendance than for many years,. Clerk • Frank Raithby read the minutes which were accepted. For the the first time in the police village's history, printed financial statements were given out. Chairman Wagner ex- palined the financial account and discussion took place. Street signs were discussed but this business was left until more in- formation can be obtained, Some residents are wanting new street lights and the ratepayers were told that they would cost $36 per unit to operate and we have 44 units in the village, The present lights cost $18 per unit. The present mill rate is 23 and the assessment value is Hullett- $52,600, West Wawanosh $66,940, and East Wawanosh - $37,060,making a total of $156,600. Nominations forms were picked up. , BAZAAR OF KNOX UNITED Pastor Alfred Fry opened the Bazaar and bake sale last Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. of the Knox United Church U.C.W. held in the Community Memorial hall. As it was remembrance Day, a three minute silence was observed. The guests were welComed by Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer and Mrs. Ted East, and the register was in charge of Mrs. James Jackson and Miss Margaret R. Jackson of Blyth. The fish pond was in charge of the Inter- mediate C.G.I.T, girls with their leader, Mrs. Allan Webster. It was a very busy corner. The sewing table and fancy work was in charge of Mrs, Norman Wightman, Mrs. Gerald McDowell, and Mrs. Arnold Cook, The apron booth with its many aprons were sold by Mrs. Ted Mills, Mrs. Bert Marsh and Mrs. Beth Lansing. The knitting articles with its baby bootee tree W'ae"in charge of Mrs. Robert Arthur, Mrs. Peter Verbeek, and Mrs. Keith Arthur. The table with home cooked baking was in charge of Mrs, Donald Haines, Mrs. Ernest Durnin, Mrs. Harold Gross, Mrs. Arnold Craig, Mrs. William de Jong and Mrs. W. L. Craig; cashier. Novelties and crafts were sold by Mrs. William Empey, Mrs. Harold Webster, Mrs. Ralph Munro and Mrs. Charles Merrill, The table with the Bible cake and recipe were in charge of the Ex- plorers with the leaders Misses Brenda Ball and Doreen McClinchey. The senior C.G.I.T. booth with Misses Sherry Plaet- zer and Arva Ball in charge, sold candles, cakes, candy, U.C. calendars and cards. The produce table of jams, jellies, flowers etc. was in charge of Mrs. Walter Cunningham and Mrs. Stanley Ball. MISSIONARY SOCIETY The November meeting of the Auburn Women's Missionary Society was held at the home of the president, Mrs. Wilfred San- derson. She gave the-call to wor- ship followed by a hymn. She welcomed the members and guest. The devotional period was in charge of Miss Minnie Wagner. Her Meditation was on the mission work of the Presbyterian Church in Labrador. The roll call was an- swered by a Bible verse con- taining the word, Praise. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by the secretary, Miss Minnie Wagner. Mrs. William Clark presented the financial statement and plans were made to make a quilt. The Christmas meeting was discussed and it is to be held at the home of Mrs. William Clark on December 13th. The topic was in charge of Mrs. W, Clack and she read an interesting article from a recent nursing journal which described a nurse's introduction to jungle medicine in northern Laos. The article told of the work being done in an attempt to carry on programs already established., by the late Dr, Thomas Dooley. Mention was also made of assistance received from U,N.I.C.E,F. for their teaching programs. The offering was received and dedicated with prayer by Mrs. Sanderson. The meeting was closed with a hymn and the benediction. Lunch was served by the hostess. ANNIVERSARY Neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. John Hallam gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Hallam last week to honour them on the oc- casion of their 40th wedding an- niversary. The evening was spent playing cards and gifts' were presented, followed by lunch. On Sunday afternoon the family joined in a family dinner at the Dominion Hotel, Zurich. They all returned to the home of their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Don Elliott of Goderich where a social time was enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Hallam have two sons, Brian of R.R. 1 Auburn, Stewart of Toronto and two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Maureen) and Mrs. William (Donna) Crawford, both of Goderich. Mrs. Ralph Munro spent the last ten days with her son, Mr. Donald Youngblut, Mrs, Youngblut, Lorrie, Barry and Bradley of London and also visited with Mr. and Mrs. W..J, O'Connell. Mr. and Mrs. Ted East were pleasantly surprised when over 25 neighbours gathered at their home to mark their 25th wed- ding anniversary. Mrs. Wilfred Plunkett read an address of congratulations and Mrs. Harold Gross presented a gift on behalf of -the neighbours. Both Mr. and Mrs. East thanked everyone and a social time was enjoyed. Mr, Ed Haines of the University of Waterloo spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Haines. Mr, and Mrs. Thomas Haggitt spent the weekend ,at Leamington with Mr, and Mrs. Joe Haggitt.
