Volleyball head for title
BY GREG BROWN
Thursday, October 19 saw
Central Huron's senior football
Redmen drop a 32.0 contest to
the powerful South Huron Pan-
thers in Exeter. This was the
team's second loss all season,
and it leaves them in second
place in conference standings
with a 4-2 record. Injuries to key
players early in the game have
been blamed for the lop-sided
score.
The loss, however, has not
destroyed the Redmen's con-
fidence about the outcome of the
next game to be played Wed-
nesday, October 25, when the
Redmen take on Listowel at
home.
Listowel will be the team's
final opponent prior to the con-
ference playoffs. Hopes are high
for these playoffs since this has

On Friday, October 20 the
Central Huron cross-country
team participated in the Huron-
Perth Cross country Conference
held at St. Marys. Our midget
team fell from third to fourth
place because of a tie-breaker
with the fifth place runner.
Our juniors placed third in
Huron-Perth but failed to be
chosen to go to WOSSA because
of a tie-breaker with the fifth
place runner. However, two of
our runners will represent the
cessful season in years.
With reasonable school sup-
port, the Redmen could easily
haul down a Huron-Perth
championship.
Huron-Perth conference at
WOSSA. Clarence Roorda
placed fourth in the Jun,ior
Division running 31 /2 miles in 21
minutes, 11 seconds and Eric
Monkes placed ninth in the
midget division. Unfortunately,
CHSS did not have a senior
team entered this year.
All members of the cross-
country team are to be
congratulated for a fine showing
and their great sportsmanship in
their efforts to bring home the
Huron-Perth pennants.

Last Thursday, October 19,
CHSS hosted the final
volleyball tournament before
the Huron-Perth Champion-
ships. The Seniors and Juniors
placed first over Seaforth,
Exeter, Goderich and Wingham,
The Seniors went undefeated
in all their sets in the three tour-
naments. Last Thursday they
defeated Goderich and Exeter
and finished their Huron
County season with a total of
twelve points out of a possible
twelve. All the players competed
well and proved that the extra
practice time was not wasted,
Mr. Allen is the coach of the
CHSS Seniors.
In the same tournament at
'Clinton, the Juniors suffered
their first loss. In the first set
with Goderich they couldn't put
it together after winning the first
game, and Goderich won the
remaining two. Another problem
faced the local boys as they en-

The students of Central
Huron were very much im-
pressed last Friday by Toron-
tonian Charles Hayter who gave
readings of the Canadian poet,
Robert Service. Mr. Hayter is an
actor, model, singer, comedian
and poet impersonator. He gave
the students an enjoyable hour
of poetry including Canadian
favorites such as }'Ice"- Worm
Cocktail", "Shooting of Dan
McGrue", "Cremation of Sam
McGee", "Sheila", "Teddy
Bear" and "The Ballad of
Betsy's Boil".
All of the students thoroughly
enjoyed the visit of the talented
Charles Hayter.
