Tests have been conducted by Cornell on the effects on a motorist's ability of long stret- ches behind the wheel. On -the average, after four hours of driving, a driver takes 20 per. cent longer between corrections of the steering wheel. A fatigued driver will also allow his. car to drift more than twice as far from the centre of the lane than would a rested driver, says the Ontario Safety League. It was also found that drivers who took a four-minute break after four hours of driving, and then retur- ned to the wheel, had accuracy about equal to that at the end of their first hour of driving.
