W.M.S. Mooting
The W.M,S. of Carmel.
Presbyterian Church held their
first fall meeting on Monday
evening. President Mrs, Rachel
Schwalm opened the meeting
with a psalm, a prayer and a
poem called "Life". Hymns
were sung with Mrs. Mable
Munn accompanying at the
piano. Mrs Elizabeth Faber
gave the devotional and read a
story called • "Family Affair
History".
Thirty-four visits were
reported to have been Made by
members to the sick and shut-
ins throughout the summer
months, Mrs. "Jean Snell read
"Secretary's Corner" from the
Glad Tidings. Roll call was
answered by 11 members and
two visitors with a church they
had visited during summer
vacation. Mrs. Blanche Dougall
read from the booklet called
"These days".' The Carmel
W.M.S. will be hostesses to the
Huron Presbyterial which will
be held some time in October
with date to be announced later.
Next meeting will be held
October second in the evening,
Mrs. Maggie Campbell closed
the meeting with the
benediction.
The Ladies" Aid meeting
followed with -Mrs. Aldene
Volland presiding and Mrs.
Jean Snell acting as Secretary.
Plans were made to hold a
Country Store with home
baking, produce, etc. to be held
on November fourth at 3 p.m.
UNITED CHURCH
Sunday morning, Hensel'
United Church Sunday School
started a new fall term. Pins
and diplomas were announced
by superintendent Cecil Pepper
and handed out by secretary
Wayne Payne. Those receiving
second year pins for two years
perfect attendance were:
Brenda, Marilyn and Laurie
Pepper. Those receiving gold
pins for perfect attendance for
one year were: Chris Beck,
Susan Beck, Steven Corbett and
Jo-anne Pepper. Those receiving
silver pins for one Sunday short
of perfect attendance were
Barbara McCurdy, Shelly
Wareing, Melissa Veal, Jerry
Smith and Paul Mansfield.
UNIT II MEETING
Unit II of Hensall U.C.W. met
Monday evening at the church
to start off the fall season. Mrs.
Pearl Passrnore acted as
chairlady and opened the
meeting with a poem "He was
one of us." Mrs; Mildred
McNaughton gave the
devotional using an article, from
the last Observer with the theme
"1 tell you this - unless you turn
round and become like children
you will never enter the
kingdom of heaven."
Eleven members and one
visitor answered the roll call. It
was announced that the
Christmas stocking project is
due in November. The General
Meeting will be held October 2.
Unit H are responsible for the
nursery in October. Next
meeting will be the third
Monday in October because of
the Thanksgiving holiday. A
very interesting study was given
by Mrs. Hazel Corbett who gave
an up to date, report on Africa
by using newspaper clippings.
Everyone enjoyed a contest on
"age" conducted by Mrs. Pearl
Passrnore. Mrs. Belva, Fuss and
Mrs. Jean Ferguson served a
tasty lunch.
LADIES LEG ION
AUXILIARY MEETING
The regular meeting of the
Ladies Legion Auxiliary was
held in the Legion Hall Tuesday
evening with president Mrs.
Mildren Chalmers in the chair,
Mrs. Jean Srnale and Mrs.

Mary Taylor were installed on
the Executive Committee for
1972 by the president. Members
decided to again have the
money doll draw at Chrtrnas
time with the proceeds to go
towards free skating for the
children,
A dinner meeting is planned
for October to celebrate the 23rd
birthday of the Auxiliary. The
dinner will be held at 7 p.m. at
the Hensall Hotel.
Sports Officer, Mrs, Iva Reid,
gave a report on the sports and
announced there are is bowling
tournaments corning up in
Wingharn, Strathroy and
Seaforth,
The mystery prize was won by
Mrs. Jean Sri-We, attendance
draw by Mrs. Evelyn Randall
and the guessing prize by Mrs.
Irene. Davis,
Bingo was played and a pot
luck lunch was much enjoyed.
CHISELHURST U.C.W.
MEETING '
Chiselhurst U.C.W. held their
SOptember meeting Tuesday
evening at the church. Mrs.
Alvin Cole opened the meeting
with a poem "Lord give me
faith", Everyone joined in
singing the theme hymn
followed by prayer. Mrs. John
Brintnell took the worship with
the title being "Wisdom''.
Thirteen members answered the
roll call with a verse from
Psalm 25. Mrs. Earl Kinsman
read a poem for the programme
"For the sheep not a lamb". It
was decided to hold the fall
bazaar on November 1, at 3 p.m.

Mrs, Gerald Glen conducted the
.study by showing slides on
Korea, India, Hong Kong and
Nepal, Mrs, Cole closed the
meeting with prayer. The
hostesses were Mrs. 41f Ross
and Mrs, Earl Kinsman.
AMBER REBEKAH
LODGE MEETING
The first fall meeting of
Amber Rebekah Lodge was held
Wednesday evening with N.G.
Mrs. Ernie Chipchase presiding
and being assisted by V,G, Mrs.
Dorothy Beaton, A number. of
members attended a memorial
service at the Box Funeral
Home, Seaforth in memory of
Mrs. Margaret Baird, a former
member of the Lodge. Mrs.
Maggie Campbell and Mrs.
Dorothy Parker reported on
visiting the patients at
Queensway during the summer
months and handling out treats.
Mrs. Alice Ferg and Mrs, Inez
McEwan volunteered to visit the
home in September.
Mrs. Olga Chipchase asked
that all tickets for the afghan
and the blanket be turned in to
the secretary. Mrs, Leona Parke
by the 18th of September. The
draw is to be made September
20 at the regular meeting.
Happy Birthday was sung to a
number of members who had
birthdays during the holiday. A
memorial service was held by
the Lodge at the Bonthron
Funeral Home on Wednesday
evening in memory of Mrs.
Edna Corbett, a Charter
member of the Lodge.
Installation of officers of the
Amber Rebekah Lodge will be
held on October 16 by ap,p,
Sister Margaret Sharpe of
Seaforth District 23. The
Charter will be draped at the
next meeting in memory of two
departed sisters.
PERSONALS
Mrs. Jessie Chaffee, Embro,
visited one day last week with
Mrs. Albert Alexander.
Mrs, Sim Roobal and Mrs.
Don Dodds and Joan left on
Tuesday for a vacation to
Holland.
Mr, and Mrs. Sim Roobal
were in Chatharn on Saturday
and visited with Mrs. Roobal's
brother Anthony Gerlderland
who is a patient in General
Hospital there.
Mrs. Sirn Roobal had the
misfortune to receive a broken
wrist and two broken ribs in a
car accident near McTaggarts
Cemetery on Sunday afternoon.
CORBETT
At the Bluewater Rest Home,
Zurich, Monday September 4,
1972, Mrs. Fred Corbett, the
former Bertha Edna Mae
Fincharop, in her 83rd year.
Beloved wife of the late Fred
Corbett who predeceased her in
1945.
Born in London Ontario, the
deceased lived in this area most
of her life. She was a member of
the Amber Rebekah Lodge and
the Lodge held a service at the
funeral Chapel Wednesday
evening.

Mrs. Harold (Porothy) Parker,

surviving are 16 grandchildren
and 26 great grandchildren.
The body rested at the
Bonthron Funeral Home where
service was conducted
September 7, 1972, with Rev,
Donald Beck of Hensall United
Church officiating. Interment
made in Exeter Cemetery.
