Twas in the spring of
Two friends talked and an idea, grew,
Call .cousin Don se.- He lives on a farm,
May show some interest — can do no harm.
Call Don; that's just what Paul did,
And found an empty house and barn were hid
On a river bank among-the gentle rolling hills
And all around was land the farmer
This was just what was wanted,
Too bad that house was haunted
By bees and rats instead of ghosts
T'would have been easier for the hosts,
But settle in -they did
And most of the rats ran and hid.
"Theatre without Walls" or "Passe Muraille"
Hard to say — rhymes with "Pass my eye".
Director Paul, 3 actors and actresses 3
All part of the group we were to see,
Riding bicycles if you please,
Off to pick raspberries and peas.
Help with the hay, milk a cow,
Or needle piglets, — Let's learn how.
Learn they did the hard and the easy way
But nothing could their enthusiasm sway.
Off to play bingo or to a fiddling contest
Council meeting or auction sale: Which was best?
Talk to the neighbours, learn what they could
Then try to pick out the parts that were good,
That's when the hard work really began,
To re-enact the ideas — See if we can
Imitate someone so people know who
Try, David, and see how well you can do.
On a beautiful summer day August 13th
A huge crowd was seen gathered beneath
The roof of a barn, sitting on hay
Where they laughed and clapped the afternoon away.
With songs, poems and skits they bewitched us all,
And gasps were heard as Miles did fall
Among his imaginary bales of hay
He had helped someone put away.
An old battered mailbox was a snowmobile
And the cold of winter all could feel
As Janet waved a sheet making snow blow
David and Anne into a warm house did go.
Firta's hands became ducks nibbling 'at grass imaginary
While David was Les in his animal sanctuary.
We saw frazzled housewives doing some chore
And 2 tractors played "Tug-of-War."
'Happy moments and sad ones we all must share
While neighbours make them easier to bear,
The changes in farming with the young leaving home.
Off to some school or just to roam,
Twenty-eight Lobbs live in the community,
So they made up a song called the "Lobb Dynasty"..
Allen's biggest role was in playing John Deere
While Miles Old the story and made thunder peel.
The Saga, of'John Deere brought the show to an end
Now what would happen to "AROUND THE BEND"?
The group packed their things and off they did go,
Then they came back to again do the show.
A few changes had to be made in the cast
But the songs and the skits were the same as the last.
If you were unable to see either showing,
Off to Toronto you may think of going.
, To the Passe Muraille Theatre in Trinity Square,
12 shows in 3 weeks the group'11 play there.
September 21st is the opening date,
The show starts at 8; so don't be late,
