Thorndale takes final game
Clinton knocked out
6-Clinton News-Record, Thursday, September 14, 172
Must win
Colts tied in series
Last weekend the Clinton
Colts and Wilkesport each won
one game to send the O.B.A.
semi-finals to the limit. Each
team won 'on their home
diamond. The Colts winning 9-2
on the fine pitching of Larry
Pickett and losing 5-2 at
Wilkesport as Brad Dutot
suffered a tough defeat as he
pitched well. enough to win any
game.
At Clinton last Saturday
afternoon, it took the Colts only
two innings to establish
themselves, In the second inning
the Colts took a 3-0 lead as
Brad Dutot and Cern
Colquhoun singled with nobody
out. Doc Miller then hit a
towering home run over the
right field fence, his fifth homer
of the season. The Colts raised
their lead to 5-0 in the third
inning with three key doubles.
The doubles came off the bats of
Butch Fleet, Larry Pickett and
Doc Miller.
Three double plays by Clinton
infielders helped pull Larry out
of bases loaded jams in the
sixth, seventh, and eighth
innings respectively.
In going the distance, Pickett
won his seventh game of the
year,
Leading hitters for the Colts
in this contest were Larry
Pickett with four hits, a double
and three singles; Brad Dutot
and Cam Colquhoun with 3
singles each; Doc Miller, a
homer and double; Hans
Leppington, two singles; Butch
Fleet, a double; Stu Mustard, a
double; and Don Bartliff, a
single.
Clinton pounded out a total of
17 hits in this game, but on
Sunday back in Wilkesport was
a different story as the Colts left
13 men stranded on base.
In the first inning at
Wilkesport, Wilkesport took a 1-
0 lead on two singles and a
walk. A single and a long
double produced another run in
the fourh inning to make it 2-0,
Two singles and a beautiful
bunt sacrifice increased the lead
to 3-0 in the fifth. The Colts'
final hopes dwindled in the
bottom of the eighth when
Shepherd hit a two-run homer
over the right field fence to
make the score 5-0, The Colts
did not give up as they rallied in
the ninth for their only two runs
of the game. With one out in the
ninth, pinch-hitter Rick Frernlin
walked. Don Bartliff and Stu
Mustard hit successive singles
with Frernlin scoring. Butch
Fleet hit a sacrifice fly scoring
Bartliff. Larry Pickett walked.
Laurie Colquhoun came up to
bat with the tying run at the
plate and he flew out to centre
field for the final out.
Stu Mustard led all Clinton
batters with three singles; Brad
Dutot had two singles, and one
single each by Butch Fleet,
Larry Pickett, and Don Bartliff.
Brad Dutot suffered his first
pitching defeat of the season.
His score now stands at six wins
and one loss.
Next game is at Wilkesport
this Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Good
fan support at Wilkesport would
be appreciated by your Colt
players.
Go get 'em, Colts!
At Thorndale last Thursday
evening, the Clinton Colts lost a
very tough game to the
Thorndale Angels, losing their
chances of winning the Huron-
Perth championship. After
leading 8-2 after seven innings,
the Colts' attack crumbled and
they lost a 14-13 decision in
eleven innings.
The Colts had played neatly
excellent ball for the first seven
innings and then, like a bolt of
lightning out of the sky,
everything went wrong.
The Colts led 6-0 at one stage.
They scored one run in the first
inning on Doc Miller's fourth
home run of the season. They
added five more runs in the
second inning with Larry
Pickett's three-run triple being
the big blow of the uprising.
Going into the bottom of
eighth and leading 8-2 with one
out, it looked like a sure run for
Clinton. But Thorndale rallied
for three runs in the eighth on
three singles, a walk and an
error to cut the Colts' lead to 8-
5. The Colts came back in the
ninth to add one more run to
their lead to make the score 9-5.
That was not enough for
pitcher Brad Dutot as
Thorndale came up in the
bottom of the ninth and scored
four unearned runs to tie the
score 9-9.
In the tenth inning, the Colts
took a 10-9 lead as Butch Fleet
singled with two out. A pass ball
put Butch on second and then
he scored on an error. However,
Thorndale came up and scored
on a wild pitch by reliever Larry
Pickett to tie the score 10-10
after ten innings.
In the eleventh inning, the
Colts again rallied for three big
runs. It looked certain now that
the Colts had scored enough
runs. Singles by Brad Dutot and
Greg Burns and a double by Bit-
ch Fleet were the big hits in
leading to these three runs.
It turned out it wasn't enough
runs because Thorndale came'
back with four important runs
of their own, enough to take the
Huron-Perth championship
away from the Colts. It was
Larry Pickett's first loss of the
season, and now his pitching
record stands at 6 wins and one
loss. Leading hitters for the
Colts were Hans Leppington
with two doubles and a single;
Butch Fleet, a double and a
single, Doc Miller, a homer;
Larry Pickett, a triple; and one
single each by Rick Frernlin,
Laurie Colquhoun, Don Bartliff,
Brad Dutot, and Greg Burns,

Delivering a constant flow of power,
dependably and safely-that's your
Hydro's round-the-clock responsibility.
And because electricity provides so
many services so dependably, most
homeowners can take it for granted.
And yet, in many homes over ten
years old, the quality of service is
severely restricted-simply because
the wiring is outdated and inadequate.
Rewiring can make a world of
difference: In convenience, by
providing ample outlets and switches
where you want them. In performance,
by bringing full power to your
appliances so that they can operate
at peak efficiency. In safety, by
eliminating the hazards of an over-
burdened wiring system. Good reasons
for giving top priority to your home
wiring when you consider making
improvements.
To find out what rewiring can do
for your home, call a qualified
Electrical Modernization contractor.
And ask him about the Hydro Finance
Plan-an easy
way to fit the
work into your jb44
budget.
