Arthritic booth successful
Manning have anniversary

Mrs. Lloyd Westlake reported
a very successful display booth
for the Arthritis, Society held at
Bayfield Fall Fair, Saturday;
when a total of $48.50 was
realized from donations of
homeznaee cookies and apples
donated by Mr. rViilits, The
society say a very great
thanky.ou to all those who
donated and worked in the
booth.
September is. Arthritic Month
and information on arthritis
may be obtained by calling Mrs,
Westlake at her home; also she
would be pleased to accept any
donations to help fight this
crippling disease.

Day weekend at their cottage in

Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Higgins
enjoyed a two week holiday

holidaying for three weeks with
the former's grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Arkell,
Mrs. Ted Morley, Cleveland,
Ohio, has recently purchased the
Baker residence from Mr, Harry
Baker on Highway 21 in the
village, Mrs. Morley is the
former Peggy Burt, niece of
Harry Baker and she was born
in the home she has just
purchased.
Mrs. Morley's recent guests
were Tom and Ken Gulling,
Mrs. Betty Teller and son
David, all of Avon Lake, Ohio,
her son-in-law and daughter
Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Crnjak,
Cleveland, Ohio, and Robbie
Morley (her son).
Mr. and Mrs. Howard
Scotchmer, Robert and Lori
have returned to Chatham after
spending the past week with his
mother, Mrs. L.W. Scotchmer.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Larsh and
Ann Margaret, Chatham, were
weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Talbot and girls.

Through the kindness and
generosity of Pioneer Park
Association, a very enjoyable
band concert was held in ,
Pioneer Park last Saturday
evening.
A group called Anvil from
Kitchener-Waterloo area, under
the direction of Dave Church,
who plays base guitar, and
back-up vocal -with Ed.
Burthwright, lead guitar, Larry
Heimpelon drums and Carol
Johns, vocal. They played for
the evening performance for
over 200 young and not-so-

sary party was held last Sunday
for Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Manning.
The family met for a
smorgasbord dinner at the Bed-
ford Hotel, Goderich, and then
returned to the home of their
daughter, Mrs. Stanley Johns,
Tuckersmith Township, for an
evening of entertainment.
Danny Lear, a grandson, was
in.c. and gave several jokes
throughout the program in
which all the grandchildren
took part. Lisa Johns sang, "I'm
a Little Teapot", followed by
Richard Johns playing "Bridges
of Paris" on his guitar. David
Lear played a German folk song
on the piano and Danny Lear
sang "Four Strong Winds" with
accompaniment on his guitar.
Steven Johns recited a poem
which he had written called
"Summer".
June Johns favoured with ac-
cordian numbers "It was the
Lovliest Night of the Year" and
"Merry Widow Waltz" followed
by a mixed quartet composed of
Stan and June Johns, and
Harry and Gail Lear, They sang
"The Old Gray Mare", "Billy
Boy", and "Count Your
Blessings". Harry Lear then
read the presentation poem he
had composed and gifts were
presented, Lunch was served
young adults.
The group, who have been
playing together for one and
one-half years, played their
farewell performance during the
weekend. They were well
received and accepted an
invitation to play for the
residents of Paul Bunyan
Trailer Court on Sunday
evening. The group and
organizers of the concert send
out a very special thank-you to
Pioneer Park Association for the
use of their very lovely park.
Mr. Lloyd Clifton, student
minister of Knox Presbyterian
Church for the summer months
and Mr. Doug Allen, youth co-
ordinator, have returned to their
respective studies,
Bayfield Volunteer Firemen
were called out Sunday morning
to extinguish a chimney fire in
the Aylsworth cottage on Tuyll
St,
Many of our summer
residents have left the village
after spending the summer
season with us, but tell us they
will return on weekends as long
as the weather permits. Mr. and
Mrs. Eric Krohmer and family
who have operated Cedar Grove
for the summer have returned to
their home in London, but
intend to come back for the
weekends, hopefully until
Thanksgiving.
Mr, and Mrs. J. Brown, Nancy
and Ralph of Oshawa, visited
for a few days with Mr. and
Mrs. Lloyd Westlake and
family.
Mrs. Don Lance's personal
Bayfield History Scrapbook
which is centred around the
history known for 100 years as
Edward's Store, and the people
who had owned it, will be
displayed at the Bayfield
Historical Society meeting to be
held Monday, Sept. 11 at the
home of Mr. and Mrs, Don
Lance. (See coming events, this
issue of the Clinton News-
Record).
Mr. Rick Westlake left
Tuesday to enter Conestoga
College, Kitchener where he is
taking a course in electronics.
Barbara Elliott, Rob Dick,
Jane Dean and Rick Westlake
have returned from a week's
trip to Elliot Lake and
Winnipeg, Manitoba. They
reported a very enjoyable
holiday, although at one point
they wondered, for when they
arrived at Duluth, Minnesota,
they "found" the city under
three feet of water following
floods from a tornado that had
just passed through.
