Brad Dutot struck out 10 batters in going the distance for the third straight time against Mitchell, The Colts pounded out 13 hits, but were also helped by eight walks and eight Mitchell errors in coasting to their lopsided victory, The Colts batted around twice in the game by sending ten batters to the plate in each of the fifth and sixth innings and scoring five runs each time. Larry Pickett, Laurie Colquhoun, Brad Dutot and Cam Colquhoun each had two hits in leading the Colt batters. Larry Pickett had a double and single; Laurie Colquhoun two singles; Brad Dutot a triple and a single and Cam Colquhoun, two singles. Other hitters with one hit each were Stu Mustard, a double; Doc Miller, a double; Don 13artliff, a double; Hans Leppington, a double and Butch Fleet, also a double. Colts record this season so far stands at 22 wins and 2 losses. The Colts may advance into the Q.B.A. semifinals this weekend, but no opponent has been picked. Watch posters for further notice, • • (continued from page 4) from that of the Village Ratepayers, We would like to clear up another point, if we may diverge from the letter signed by Sine Herold, to the article on the front page of the Clinton News- Record of August 29th, with the heading "Bayfield upset over land deal". In it Blue Anchor is said to have declared, (quote) "The flats are inaccessible in the winter, thus, because they are not open to the public year round, they are legally Blue Anchor's." This is not a true statement. During the winter the road through the flats is kept open, for public use, by Bayfield's Road Superintendent. People go to the flats periodically, through the winter, to check their boats, which are stored on the flats, in cradles, until spring launching. This has been standard practise of Bayfield families and summer cottagers for years. Not only that, years ago the fishermen drew ice over the flats in winter time. In an attempt to clear up some misunderstanding which arose out of the Ratepayers' Meeting in Bayfield, August 20th, we would ask your further indulgence and state the following. Idle rumours are being spread among cottagers on the Lakefront area known as the North Beach. Those who are responsible for spreading the rumours are unknown, but wild statements are being made about "thousands of dollars" to be spent on opening the North Beach to the public. It would be an utter impossibility for Bayfield population .500, to attempt to carry out such a scheme. That area (the North Beach of Lake Huron) is in federal hands. If the federal government has such intentions, the worried cottagers have only to request information through Federal channels to find out, at first hand, if such an action is planned by them. The interest of the Village of Bayfield lies ONLY in the River Flats area and, when controversy over that area is settled, the Council hopes to find out if it is at all possible to make some useable path or narrow roadway from the River Flats to the North Pier, at the mouth of the Bayfield River, as a safety precaution. This is a necessary action, long overdue and needed in case of serious accidents on or near the pier, involving swimmers, boaters or construction workers, Such workers are present when the federal government has to make repairs to the north side of the Harbour. Should Blue Anchor succeed in their quest of claiming that part of the River Flats now in contention, no village rescue party could legally get to the North Pier, from the North side, without asking special permission of the would-be owners. They obviously do not wish to have the public anywhere near what they have tried to indicate as their back yard. Fishermen and Other Ratepayers of Bayfield Per Mrs. E. W. Oddleifson Names on request.
