Colts slam Mitchell

the Colts a 3-0 lead in the fourth
inning.
In the eight, Brad Dutot hit
his second double of the game.
He scored on a pass ball by the
Walkerton catcher to make the
score 4-0. In the ninth the Colts
made it 5-0 when Doc Miller
singled with two out and Don
Bartliff knocked him in with his
fourth hit of the game, a double
to left centrefield.
Every batter in the Colt line-
up for the third straight game in
a row had at least one hit each.
Don Bartliff, who has been
having a sensational year at the
bat, again led the Clinton attack
with four hits. Don is currently
leading the team in batting with
a .457 average. Other hitters
were Brad Dutot, two doubles;
Laurie Colquhoun, a homer) Stu
Mustard, Larry Pickett, Doc
Miller, Danny Colquhoun, Greg
Burns, and Rick Fremlin one
single each.
No dates have yet bee- n set for
the Huron-Perth final between
Clinton and Thorndale. It will
probably start this weekend, so
check with the posters around
town for further notice, Your
local support is well appreciated
by the Colts.
Atomos won the first division
of the O.H.H,A. Belvedere Stake
at Clinton Sunday afternoon in
2;063/5; the fastest mile of the
day, Armbro Mia finished
second and Keen Bert was third.
Atomos who led all the way
went off at 1-9 and paid $2.10 to
win, Atornos and Arrnbro Mia
paid $2.10 to place. There was
no show wagering on the race.
The sixth exactor of Atomos and
Armbro Mia (2-5) paid $3.60,
Topic Time took the first in
2:11 and paid $16.30, $5.00,
$2.40. Ricky Howard won the
second to combine for daily
double (7-2) of $48,50, Dennis
Jewitt drove Miss Direct Baker
to victory in the third, Darcie
Herbert finished second and
Babes Boy third. Time for the
mile was 2:092/5. Belmont Ernie
took the fourth in 2:10 and
combined with Stiggins for a
fourth exactor (2-4) of $33,20,
Bay Town Frosty won the trot
in 2:12 415. Carry On Sly won the
seventh in 2:122/5.

second division of the 0.11,H.A.

Last Friday night at Mitchell
the Clinton Colts took a strangle
hold in the best of five series
with Mitchell by defeating them
by _a 1$-2 score, En route to their
second straight win against
Mitchell, the Colts hammered
out 1$ hits and played their beat
defensive game of the season.
Brad Dutot . pitched his fifth
win of the season and second in
a row against Mitchell in the
playoffs. Brad was in complete
command of the game allowing
only seven hits and striking out
five batters. Don Bartliff and
Greg Burns led the Colt attack
w ith three hits each, Greg
Burns, who has been in a slump,
played his beet game of the
season by scoring four big runs
and getting on base all six times
he was up to bat. One of the big
blows of the game was Laurie
Calocchoun's three-run homer
aver the left field fence in the
fifth inning which gave the Colts
a comfortable 7-1 lead at the
time.
Everyone in the Colt line-up
had at least one hit except for
Rick Fremlin who only played
three innings in a defensive role
in the outfield, The hits were as
follows: Don Bartliff, a double
and two singles; Greg Burns,
three singles; Laurie Colquhoun,
a homer and single; Doc Miller,.
a double and single; Brad
Dutot, double and single; Paul
Bartliff, two singles; Danny
Colquhoun, two singles, Stu
Mustard and Larry Pickett one
single each. Danny Colquhoun,
subbing in for the injured
catcher Butch Fleet played a
very good game behind the
plate.
Next game of this series was
played last night (Wed.), The
score was not available at press
time.
Last Wednesday night against
the Walkerton Angels in the
first game of the best of three
series in the semi-finals for the
Huron-Perth championship, the
Clinton Colts exploded for ten
runs on ten hits in the bottom of
the eighth inning to take an 18-7
win. Stu Mustard started on the
hill for Clinton, but needed
relief help from Larry Pickett in
the sixth inning. The Colts
pounded out 22 hits in the
contest which was played very
sloppy at times by both teams.
The effort by the Colts was
strictly offensive as they
committed seven errors on the
field,
As was the game in Mitchell
last Friday night, everyone in
the Colt line-up had at least one
hit, Stu Mustard and Doc Miller
led all Clinton batters with four
hits each. In the last 11 at bats,
Stu has gathered eight hits to
raise his average from .310 to
.366. Doc Miller hit his third
homer of the season in the ten
run eighth inning in which,
Clinton sent 14 men to the plate.
The hits were as follows: Doc
Miller, a homer and three
singles; Stu Mustard, four
singles; Laurie Colquhoun, two
doubles; Hans Leppington, a
double and two singles; Brad
Dutot, two singles, Larry
Pickett, two singles; Don
Bartliff, two singles; Rick
Fremlin, a double; Greg Burns
and Danny Colquhoun, one
single each.
In the last two games the
Colts have collected a total of
31 runs on 40 base hits.
Last Sunday afternoon at
Last Thursday, the Clinton
Kinette Juvenile girls, beat
Mitchell 35-14 for the second
straight time in their playoffs.
The whole team was hitting
well.
Sandra Fremlin, Debbie
Johnston and Betty
Heynesbergen each hammered
two home runs and Ruth Ann
Neilans had one. The rest of the
team had at least one hit each.
Pitching honours were shared
Walkerton the Colts handed the
Angels a 5-2 setback to advance
them into the Huron-Perth
finals against Thorndale. Larry
Pickett was pitching shutout
ball until the bottom of the
ninth when the Angels scored
their only two runs. With this
pitching verdict, Larry's record
for the season now stands at six
wins against no losses and four
saves.
The Colts took a 1-0 lead in
the first inning when Don
Bartliff singled home Larry
Pickett from second who had
singled earlier on in the inning.
Brad Dutot's ground rule
double, a sacrifice by Greg
Burns and a beautiful bunt
single by Danny Colquhoun
made the score 2-0 in the second
inning. Laurie Colquhoun, who
has hit four homers in the last
three games, hit another homer,
his sixth of the season to give
Bantams out
The season ended for the
Clinton bantams as Seaforth
won the final game of the series
6-5. In the contest, Seaforth was
'able to hit Clinton pitching for
11 hits while Clinton could only
muster five hits.
Dave Bartliff started the
game and in 41 /3 innings, gave
up nine hits and eight runs
while Phillips finished up,
allowing two hits. Bennett of
Seaforth won his third game of
the series and was particularly
effective at the most critical
points. Steve Cook had two of
the five Clinton hits with the
others going to Irwin, Butler
and Riehl.

Tavistock tonight and then
Clinton plays host here on

fourth, Susanne's Duke fifth
and Atotn Weick sixth. Mutuel
payoffs for the tenth Lochinvar
Rex $6,40, $5.00 and Victor
Tide $13.50. The exactor (2-1)
paid $108.00.

correction
The News-Record lawn
bowling story in last week's
paper was incomplete, First
prize of two silver trays donated
by the Royal Bank of Canada's
Clinton branch went to Tom
Phillips and his mother, Mrs.
Tony Phillips of Seaforth.
Second price of 12 silver dollars
donated by the Clinton Bank of
Montreal went to Bert Gray and
Florence Ludvigsen of Clinton,
Third prize went to Art
Finlayson and his daughter
Brenda of Seaforth who got $5
each from the Clinton
Community Credit Union. Lorne
