Twenty-one students from Fort St. John B.C. are spending the week as guests of Clinton and area
students. The 10 boys and 11 girls are part of the Young Voyageur program which is paid by the federal
government and the department of education. The program sends students all over Canada. The

Clinton Colts
are invincible
Clinton Results
Last Friday night at
Dashwood, the Clinton Colts
erupted for seven runs- in -the
first two innings and went on to
defeat the Dashwood Tigers 11-
6, Stu Mustard went the
distance in recording his sixth
victory of the season without a
defeat. Stu struck out 11 and
walked 5 batters while
scattering eight hits to
Dashwood. The Colts picked up
12 hits in the contest with Doc
Miller supplying the big hit of
the game with a two-run homer
in the second inning.
Clinton opened the scoring in
the first inning, Stu Mustard led
off the game with a walk. Two
outs .later, Doc Miller reached
first on an error, With runners
on third and second, Brad Dutot
then belted a two-run double to
left centrefield.
In the second inning, the Colts
scored five big runs to make the
score 7-0. With one out, Greg
Burns reached first on an error.
Stu Mustard singled and Butch
Fleet walked to fill the bases.
Larry Pickett then unloaded a
three-run single to make it 5-0.
Doc Miller followed Pickett to
the plate with a two-run shot to
cap off the five-run uprising.
Dashwood scored their first run
in the bottom of the second
inning.
There was no more scoring
until the sixth when the Colts
scored two more to make the
score 9-1. Singles by Mustard
and Dutot and a double by
Larry Pickett produced the runs.
The Dashwood Tigers came
alive in the bottom of the
seventh inning when they scored
five runs on four hits and two
walks to narrow the score to 9-6.
But the Colts did not give up
and came back in their top of
the ninth with two more runs to
take an 11-6. lead. Doc Miller
got on base by means of an error
to start off the rally in the ninth,
Brad Dutot sacrificed Miller to
second, Paul Bartliff and Newt
Collins were hit back to back
with pitched balls loading the
bases. Bob Livermore hit a
single to. right field scoring the
final two-runs of the game.
Five batters in the line-up had
two hits each, They were Stu
Mustard, Larry Pickett, Brad
Dutot, Cam Coiquhoun and Bob
Livermore, Single hits were
gathered by Butch Fleet and
Doc Miller's homerun,
With two games remaining in
the schedule, the Colts hold a
one-game lead over the
Walkerton Angels. Clinton's
admirable record is 16 wins
against one loss while the
Angels' have 15 and two record.
Clinton played last night
against Wingham but the score
was not available at press time.
They close their season with
Walkerton and the rained out
date has not been decided as
yet.
The Colts have been invited
by the Corunna Giants to take
part in their annual baseball
tournament this weekend
(Aug.5, 6 and 7). Other teams
taking part in the tournament
are Wilkesport, Sarnia, Petrolia,
Burlington and a couple of
teams from down near Windsor.
At Clinton on Sunday, July
30, Rolly's Mark won the first
and combined with The Battin
Boy for a daily double (7-5) of
$26.80. The consolation double
(7-4 Rolly's Mark-Blaze B
Dale) paid $6.30.
Meadow Roach won the third
in 2:072 /5 and paid $6,30, $4.40,
$3.30.
The fourth exactor
combination of Ice Box and
Miss Betty Atom (6-7) paid
$17.60:
Miss Choir Girl won the
seventh in 2:09 115 and paid
$42.60, $11.70, $4.70. Indian
Lake, owned by Charles Knox of
Goderich and driven by John
Duckworth, finished second and
returned $3.00, $2.80. Super
Check paid, $2.80 to show.
The seventh exactor (6-4)
paid $248.00. Arvella's First
won the preferred tenth in
2:083P. Nancy Belle was second
and Steady Rhythm was third.
Steady Rhythm is owned by
.John Irvine of Goderich and
was driven by .Jim Wallace.
They went to the quarter in
31 1 /5; the half in 1:041/5 and the
three quarter pole in 1:37 1 /5.
Mutuel payoffs for the tenth,
Arvella's First-W.40, $5.40,
$4.70; Nancy Belle-$3.70, $2.90;
and Steady Rhythm $6.80. The
exactor (2-6) paid $10:3.70.
Attendance was 1,470 and
mutuel handle $45,476.
Two legs of' the Ontario Sired
Stakes ("B" Class Pacing
Series) are being held at two
local tracks. One leg will be at
Hanover Raceway on August 12
and in Clinton on Sunday,
August 20.
There are two Civic Holiday
racemeets this Monday; one in
Kincardine and one in New
Hamburg. Post time for both is
2:00 p.m,
