UCW meets
Mrs. Frank Fingland's lovely
home and garden was the setting
for a tea, sponsored by the Wesley
Willis U.C.W. on June seventh.
This was to honour the senior
ladies of Wesley Willis church
and to give all the ladies an
opportunity to become better
acquainted, The visitors were
greeted by Mrs. Fingland and
Mrs. Ted Davies and invited to
sign the guest book. Mrs. H. Wise
invited them to have tea in the
dining room where Mrs. A.J.
Mowatt presided or in the garden
where Mrs. C. Stewart presided.
Little Misses Nancy and
Cecelia Chu delighted everyone
by singing three duets, then the
members of the Morning Glory
unit, accompanied by Mrs. Win.'
Hearn on her guitar entertained
with a very amusing original
song. Mrs. Wilfred Jervis pinned
a pretty corsage from her basket
on each honoured guest. The shut-
ins who could not attend the happy
occasion were visited the next day
and each received a sample of the
good things which were served at
the tea,
The members of the U.C.W.
prepare a special program each
June for their senior ladies—this
year's was especially successful
because no steps needed to be
climbed to reach the beautiful
garden where they enjoyed a chat
with old friends.
Ckeerto club
The Cheerio Club held their
meeting on June 28th at the home
of Gladys Armstrong followed by
a devotionperiod. Minutes of last
meeting were read by secretary
Ida Durnin. Correspondence
included a thank you from Laura
Lyon, A buying committee was
appointed. They are Dora
Shobbrook and Ena Howatt. The
card convener was to send
flowers in time of bereavement in
loss of a husband or a member.
Treasurer's report was given
Roll call was answered by a
current event by 12 members and
one visitor. Collection was taken
and the draw was won by Lillie
Webster, Meeting was closed with
a poem "You took the time" and
the Lord's Prayer repeated in
unison. Next meeting is to be held
at Ida Durnins. Program was a
contest. Pairs were by Ena
Howatt, the contests' by Dora
Weekend visitors with Mr.
Sharon and Bob were Mr. and
Mrs. Terrence Hunter of
Colborne Township; Mr, Carl
Merner of Kitchener and Mr,
and Mrs. Andy Thompson of
Ottawa who are remaining for
this week for holidays,
Mrs. Ken Reid and Jane of
London visited over the
holiday weekend with Mrs.
Luther Sanders.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van der
Molars, Paul, Mark and Margie
of Oakville spent the weekend
with Mrs. W. L. Whyte, Tom
and Bill.

The U.C.W.' General was held
On Tuesday June 27th at 8 p.m. in
the S.S. rooms with 38 members
and visitors present, Mrs.
Margaret Whyte president
welcomed all. Her theme was
missions. A devotion period
followed. Minutes of last meeting
were read by secretary Marjorie
Duizer, correspondence included
thank your from George Smith,
Laura, Lyon, Edyth Beacom,
Murray and Shirley Lyon, Hesk
family, David and Rosy Lee,
Beverly and Garry Gall, and a
letter from Margie Whyte,
In new business they hoped to
haveadelegate for Alma College
in St, Thomas by the July meeting,
The buying committee was to look
into buying new flags and
memoriam Ilynanaries. Ten
volunteers were needed for
vacation Bible Study school, Rev,
Britton's project was explained
by. Rey. McDonald and a
committee will be formed. The
church picnic is planned for July
23rd,
Treasurers report was given
by Mrs. E. Wood. Supply
secretary Ida Durnin reported six
boxes of clothing were sent to
London, Ena Howatt reported 56
cards were sent out and hoped
everyone would do visiting.
Margaret Whyte reported on the
Presbyterial executive meeting
held in Blyth. Fall Rally is to be
held in October in Brucefield.
Reports were given on the Retreat
held at Goderich U,C. camp. Ena
Howatt reported on A.M.; Laura
Sundercock on P.M.; Marjorie
Duizer and Addie Flunking on what
they learned there.
Gail Lear introduced guest
speaker Mrs. Rev. Stokes of
Blyth, who gave a very interesting
and informative account of their
life for 41/2 years spent as their
minister on Walpole Island, there
were three churches, Anglican,
United and Pentecostal, Ruth
Vincent favored with a solo "I am
weak but thou art strong"
accompanied by Gail Lear, Ella
Jewitt thanked Mrs. Stokes and
presented her with a plant.
Margaret Whyte also thanked her
and read a poem `Stewardship is
like a garden' Rev. McDonald
pronounced the Benediction and
the Berean unit served lunch.
PERSONALS
Rev. Stephen Mathews of Glen
Morris visited on Sunday with his
cousins Mr. and Mrs. C. Wood.
A family gathering was held on
Sunday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Allen Shaddick when 32
members of the Walkom family
honouring their sister Miss
Evelyn Walkom on her retirement
from teaching.
Shobbrook were make a sentence
with letters cheerio and a
personality contest. Euchre was
played and lunch served by Gladys
Armstrong, Mary Longman,
Laura Lyon and Elsie Youngblutt.

Baptism service was held at the
United church on Sunday morning.
Mr. Bert Shobbrook and Mrs.
John Riley greeted the people at
the door, ushers were Calvin
Lovett, Bryan McClure, Kevin
and Wayne Hulley. Mr. Murray
McNeil was organist. Mr. Jim
Jameison clerk of session
presented the parents and Rev.
McDonald baptized Brent William
son of Mr. and Mrs. John Radford
and Jacqueline Tara daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Dirk Westerhout,
Rev. McDonald's message for
Dominion Day 'The possibility of
renewal'.

Public School when their

Mr. Bill Dale was in
Goderich on Thursday when
the Ex Warden's were guests
of the County Council and the
Goderich Town Council.

Thursday evening for the
wedding party following the
rehearsal at Londesboro
Church prior to the wedding on
Friday evening of their
daughter Linda to Larry Dillon
of Seaforth. Mr. and Mrs. Ken

Preszcator, Mr. and Mrs,

wedding and reception,
