This is the 25th Anniversary of the Pioneer Park Association and many other events to be held during the summer are in the preparatory stages. The rummage sale (which is a yearly event) is held in the Arena and no one could describe the "goodies - that seem to find their way there each year. The association accepts all sorts of rummage—furniture. clothing, dishes, plants. gardening tools, books etc.. just anything that you would care to donate. The Pioneer Park Association maintains a beautiful little park at the north end of the village (formerly called 'Signal Point) overlooking Lake Huron. Mrs. Frank Van der Molan of Oakville attended the graduation ceremonies for Margie Whyte at Guelph University on Wednesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Fleming of Seaforth spent a few days the past week with Mrs. Irene Grimoldby. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Medd, Mr, and Mrs. John Thompson spent the weekend travelling as far south as Tennessee and attending the Grand Ole Operay. Mrs. W.L. Whyte and Margie visited on Thursday with Mrs. Finlay Perrin of London. Margie spent from Thursday through Monday at Westminister College for the orientation before leaving on Tuesday morning for the Phillipines for the next three months with the Crossroads Project. Mr. and Mrs. Marris Bos, Steven and Sharon visited on Sunday in London with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Van Bommell and Brian. Mrs. Ella Jewitt and boys visited on Snnday, with Mrs. 'Elgia Jewitt and Brian, Mrs. Annie Leitch of Clinton. BY MILLIE LOBB Eight members of the S.S. No. 4, Community Club and two visitors met at the Crown Lanes for the annual "Bowling Party" early in May. Reports on the ability of the bowlers were that the scores were not spectacular but a GOOD time was had by all, The business part of the evening was held at Margaret Farquhar's home. In the president's absence the vice- president, Marilyn Forbes was in charge of the meeting which opened with the Creed and The Lord's Prayer, Roll call was answered by 14 members with "Where you would like to hold the annual picnic this year." Alison Lobb read the minutes of the April meeting but there was no treasurer's report in the absence of the treasurer. The June meeting will he held at the home of Phyllis Thompson in the afternoon of June 7, Roll call village residents and summer visitors sit each evening and watch the glorious sunsets from this vantage point. Some say there is 'no sunset as colourful as the one from this point, Mrs. Gordon Kurtz and Mrs. John R, Cook are.conveners of the rummage sale this season. + + + A bridal shower was held in the basement of St. Andrew's United Church on Sunday afternoon, May 28 to honour Miss Brenda Stirling, bride-elect of June 24, The programme was arranged by Mrs. Molly Cox, Mrs, Hilda Semple, Mrs. Elva Cox and Mrs. Carol Penhale. Brenda Makins read the address and Beverly Semple, Ann Haw, Wendy Penhale, Debbie Angus and Cheryl Cox carried the gifts to the. bride-elect, who was assisted in opening them by her cousin Mr. and Mrs. Russell King of Exeter, Mr. and Mrs, Jim Preszcator, Billy and Bobbie, Mr. and Mrs. David Preszcator, Christine, Lisa, and Christopher were Sunday evening visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Preszcator, Dianne and Nancy. Middleton The A.C.W. of St. James, Middleton, will meet Thursday evening, June 8 at the home of the secretary, Mrs. Edward Wise. This will be a business meeting to finalize centennial plans. Cpl. George Heitbohmer of Chatham, New Brunswick is holidaying with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Heitbohmer. Mr. Stewart Middleton and Mr, Bruce McNamara of Guelph went by plane to Calgary last week and attended various Aberdeen Angus breeders' functions. They visited famous ranches in the Banff and Fort McLeod areas. Debbie Argyle. Brenda thanked everyone and lunch was served by the Ladies of the Church. + + + Theist Bayfield Brownie Pack finished their year with a wiener roast at the beach on Tuesday evening. May 23, A former Brownie, Traci Wallis was present. After the wiener roast and a foot-dip in the lake, the little girls went back to the Municipal Building where they were presented with their year's accomplishments, Brownie Sixers received Brownie autograph*books, Kathy McFadden presented Fluffy Owl Debbie Turner with a Brownie autograph book. Debbie will not be with the Pack next year, Receiving Golden Hand Bars and Wings were Mary Ann Rathwell, Kathy McFadden, Freda Hill, Diane Garrett, Crystal Huffman, - Beverly Semple, Kathy Martens, Wendy Turner, and Laura Tamman. Third year stars were preSented to Debbie Talbot, Wendy Talbot, Kathy McFadden, Crystal Huffman, and Wendy Turner.. Second year stars went to Freda Hill, -Ann Talbot, Wendy Penhile, Joanne Mackie, Laura Tamman, Joanne Chapman, Karen Talbot, Jo-Anne Sturgeon, Sandra Snell, Kathy Martens, Beverly Semple. Those receiliing their first year stars were: Rebecca Fawcett, Dawn Merner, Mary Lynn Talbot, Marie Ann Dykstra, Cindy Cluff, Hope Renner, Ann Haw, Lori Talbot and Kathy Talbot, Joanne Mackie had a perfect attendance record. Gnomes' six, led by Kathy McFadden were the best behaved and the best on inspection throughout the year. BLUEBIRDS Philip Du Boulay and Louis Gunter assisted last week in checking Harvey MacDougall's 56 bluebird nesting boxes in Stanley Township. While only two boxes (one on the Bronson Line and one on the Parr Line) had bluebirds nesting. results were very gratifying as bluebirds have become almost extinct in this area. Tree swallows were nesting in 27 of the boxes. SEA SCOUT REPORT By John McLeod This week a meeting was held at the waterfront. After everyone arrived, they began painting the boats. It was dark by the time they finished, so they decided to leave. + + + The Albion Hotel guest list for last week included David McLeod, Stoney Creek; H. Thompson; Mr. and Mrs. Ron Chapman and family all of London. Mrs. Brian King and Matthew, London were with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Turner from Tuesday until Friday of last week, Mrs. Mabel Collins, Seaforth, Mrs. George Martin, Audrey Martin and Doug Kennard all of Stratford were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Margaret Garrett and family. Cathy Pickett, Clinton spent the weekend with Diane Garrett, Mr, and Mrs. W. C. Parker, Charlie and Kim London and Jackie Parker, Dorchester were Sunday visitors with Mrs, Helen Fraser and Mr. and Mrs, Bill Parker, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Denby, St, Thomas visited the weekend with Mr. and Mrs, Ken Brandon and family, Mrs. Margaret Garrett, Norma, Diane and John spent last weekend in Wellesley as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Bowers and Debbie Hopf, Mr. and Mrs, Bob Turner were in Simcoe and Port Dover from Friday til Monday of last week. Mr. Bill Orr spent part of last Week visiting his sister Mrs, Albert Leitch in Goderich. Mrs, Fred LeBeau was in Toronto last week as the guests of her family, Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher McLaughlin, Meagan, Alfie and Courtney and Jackie Moss. Mr. and Mrs, Robt, Turner were weekend guests of their son- in-law, daughter and grandson Mr. and Mrs. Brian King and Matthruw of London. Mr, and Mrs. an d Scotchmer, Robert and Lori, Chatham were with his mother, Mrs. L, W. Seotchmer, for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pounder, John, Cathy and Mary,,, London were at their village residence during the weekend. Mrs. Daisy Butler, Clinton and Dr: Alfred Butler, Madison, Wisconsin, visited with Mr. 'and Mrs. Delbert Haw on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs, George l3ellchamber, Nassau, Bahamas and Bayfield are holidaying in the Village. They arrived in Guelph, Saturday last and visited until Tuesday with Mr, and Mrs. J. Brian Grime, Dereck and Barry. Travelling to London on Tuesday, they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Nigel Bellcbamber and Jason. Friday they arrived at their home in the village and were joined for the weekend by Mr. Neil Bellchamber, Toronto and Miss Judy Duncan of Weston.
