Woodhouse, one-time aspirant
to the stage, went all out for music
dramatics and public speaking
during his high school days with
the intentions of developing a
career in the entertainment
world. He won several teenage
honours and citations, but the
death of his father who was a
minister, jolted him into a search
for eternal life,
This quest -Was satisfied in the
summer of 1932, and John
Woodhouse made his decision for
Christ that altered his whole
career and outlook on life.
With natural gifts and
extremely keen to the moods of
people, plus a sensitivity to the
pulse of the times, he launched a
unique Ministry of music. sermon
and song, which has taken him
over 1,000,000 miles, 45 states
and 25 foreign countries by the
close of 1963.
Woodhouse got his first insight
of the crime world while traveling
with the Carter Prison
Evangelistic Party, and
appearing before prison
audiences' in such large penal
institutions as Ohio State Prison,
Mansfield Reformatory and
London Prison Farm. His visits

Among the false values which
are rising up to haunt Americans
is the subsidization of brute force
at the expense of intellect.
For years and years, now, any
big husky boy who could throw a
leather bag of wind down a football
field or through an iron hoop could
be assured a college education.
Many of those who got their
educations that way were very
fine intellects, Let me repeat,
many of those who got their
educations that way were most
intelligent.
The problem is that
intelligence was never ethe basis
for the education. „Often.,
learning took place in spite of, not
because of athletics. Many semi-
professional teams, such as most
all the major universities
employ, included men who had to
be given degrees almost as
ludicrous as the proverbial
Bachelor of Arts in Sand Table
and Basketweaving,
Furthermore, because of
preoccupation with physical
prowess, many very brilliant
youngsters had to look for their
education to those organizations
which were not establishment-
centered. Actually, the deep
revulsion at organized education
stems from its preoccupation
with shallow goals for education.
Scholars who decry the ancient
technique of rote memorization
have established schools in which
execution chamber, his contact
with the convicts elle his
association with Rehabilitation
Centers for ex-prisoners made
lasting impressions on him and
confirmed the old adage that
"crime does not pay"...His
dynamic appeal from the platform
often stems from these
experiences.
At 19 years of age: young
Woodhouse began to develop a new
parish in Dayton, Ohio. Here he
demonstrated his ability in
pioneer work, designing and
building construction. By 26
years of age, under God, he
completed a beautiful church
sanctuary and educational plant in
that city, which was dedicated
free of debt in 1942, Shortly
afterwards the church reached a
record attendance of 800 in
Sunday School.
A second project of much
larger proportion was launched in
1945, and a magnificent church
plant was erected two years later
and dedicated to God in Batavia,
New York. A daily broadcast was
initiated over WBTA which
reached into thousands of hearts
and homes. The Sunday night
service was acclaimed as the
largest in western New York and a
sizeable crowd of believers was
trained by Pastor Woodhouse to
carry this militant church
forward after the termination of
his labors.
These remarkable experiences
of courage and faith marked out
quite a stormy path for John and
his young bride, Romaine Snow
Woodhouse. Following these
successes, requests for their
services took them into cities far
and near; to the Dominion of
Canada, the Caribbean Islands,
Mexico, England, Ireland,
Scotland, the Continent of Europe,
Scanclanavia countries and South
America.
An approximate total of 12,000
services have found them
ministering in particular places
such as Moody Memorial Church
in Chicago; Art Institute
Auditorium in Detroit; Calvary
Baptist Church in New York City;
People's Church in Toronto,
Canada,..In Carnegie Hall,
Pittsburg; Williams Park
Amphitheater, St. Petersburg,
Florida; and on the steps of the
State Capitol in St. Paul,'
Minnesota.
He has been the Song Leader,
Choir Director and Associate
Evangelist for Evangelistic
campaigns for such men as Dr.
Hyman Appelman, noted Hebrew
preacher, Dr. Torrey Johnson,
Dr. Bob Jones, Dr. H. McCormick
Lintz, Hebrew layman Nate
Scharff and Dr. Grady Wilson.
Augumenting his platform
Ministry, Woodhouse has chalked
up approximately 3500 radio
broadcasts, 150 high school and
college chapel programs and 600
action-packed youth rallies.
From 1953-1956, he was Director
of St, Petersburg Youth For
Christ, and developed the rally
into one of the largest in the entire
South, The work of Mr.
Woodhouse and his rally was
given recognition by St.
Petersburg's Ma 'Or .Johnson

The area's new Lutheran
congregation which has been
worshipping every other Sunday
since mid-winter in Knox Chapel,
Goderich, is switching to a mid-
week service at the same
location.
The first will be next
Wednesday, May 31 at 8 p.m.
Bruce Bjorkquist, a graduate of
Concordia Seminary in St. Louis
and presently a teacher at
Conestoga College, Clinton
Campus, will officiate.
The move to mid-weOk worship
services, Pastor Bjorkquist said,
was to a,ccommodate all
Christians in a mobile society
residing in a vacation area.
Pastor Bjorkquist noted that
since many people enjoy
weekends at cottages, camping or
travelling, especially during .the
summer months, many churches,
particularly in the larger urban
centres are finding that mid-week
worship services give everyone
an opportunity to attend church
and abounding happiness. He
founded and directed the Sunshine
Musicale in St, Petersburg for
Several peak seasons, In addition,
he has composed approximately
25 songs and choruses.
To some, Crusader' Woodhouse
is a non-conformist, an
individualist who embraces a
strong and personal faith in the
sovereignty of the Word of God.
To some, he may be a
controversial figure. However,
no one can doubt the sincerity
and urgency of his mission, nor
the scope of his impact for Christ
upon an audience both in music
and message. The common people
hear him gladly and even children
sit in rapt attention,
A certain unction
characterizes his ministry as he
preaches the Gospel of Christ
within the framework of church
centered evangelism or wherever
God opens the door of service for
his message.
Dubbed as a "self-made man"
and after 30 years of service in
this world wide outreach of
evangelism, traveler Woodhouse
states "I am convinced that
People everywhere are still eager
to know God, to find peace of mind
and soul and to posses's the
assurance of Eternal life. We
need a spiritual Revival and we
must have it. Man's efforts,
without God, have led the world to
the brink of destruction. Apart
from Divine control, science,
diplomacy, philosophy,
education, sociology and
materialism become implements
Pushing us to certain disaster.
Unless God does a mighty
spiritual work among the peoples
of many nations, man will not only
destroy himself, but he will bring
to nought all that is right and good
in the world around us."
This Crusade is a hold
endeavor to call the people back to
God and to faith in Jesus Christ,
not only to reach the unconverted
but to revitalize every phase of
the spiritual life of the church and
community.
