Ten girls who completed the Club were the recipients of spoons. A very fine fashion show on "Project Sleepwear" was presented by the Bayfield Club with excellent commentating done by Connie Talbot. Three senior girls who received their second year certificates were Valerie Merner, Veronica Huffman and Norma Garrett, The seven other girls who completed the club were Theresa Steegstra, Cindy Middleton, Sharon Bunn, Louise Martens, Shirley Brandon. Connie Talbot and Patti Greer, Leaders for this project were Mrs. Marg Garrett, assisted by Mrs. Joan Merner and Mrs, Audry Bunn, + + + Mr. Pat Graham was honoured last Saturday when members of the hockey team he coached last winter presented him with a wall plaque as an appreciation trophy. The inscription read "To Pat Graham, outstanding coach, Hayfield Merchants' League Champs for 1971-72. Central Huron Hockey League". A "work meeting" of the Hayfield Agricultural Society was held last week at which time the 15 members present prepared the prize list for this year's fair. Following the completion of this task, a business session was held. Mr. H.H. Ormond attended and requested and was granted permission to purchase some evergreens from the Fair Board property. Various proposals for improving the Fair were discussed and some ideas for raising funds. It was decided to hold a "Bakeless" Bake Sale and letters regarding this item will be going out shortly. The need for help with the Fair was stressed and ways of adding to the membership were proposed. Another meeting will be held closer to Fair Time. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rowse. Cathy, Vicki, Jill and Dale of London were with her mother, Mrs, L. B. Smith for Mother's Day. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Larson and Karen, London, and Miss Lea Ann McLeod of Camp Borden were visitors of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Larson for the weekend. BROWNIE MEETING REPORT By Freda Hill On Tuesday night the Brownies had a game of ball outdoors. Maryanne Rathwell and Diane Garrett were coaches and Diane's team won. Later they went inside the Municipal Building and played a game called, Birds, Beast or Fish, Ann Talbot brought a nature story to the meeting and has now completed all the requirements for her Golden Bar. Collectors badges were given Ann Haw and Sandra Snell. Maryanne Rathwell received her artist badge and Freda Hill her craft badge. The meeting closed with the Brownie Song and prayer. LIONS ELECT The Hayfield Lions Club held their annual election of officers, Mrs, Jack Merrill conducted the worship service of the Afternoon Unit of Ontario St. 11.C. W, on Tuesday, May 2 held in the Chapel, Mrs. Carman Garrow read a devotional guide entitled "Christ always changes life for the better" and led in prayer. A hymn was sung followed by three thought-provoking readings given by Mrs. Huron Murch. The study book on Africa was presented by Mrs. George Potter who read from letters from Zambia, their problems with unemployment, changes in church values, need for missionaries, etc. since independence. She closed with a poem "Fair shares for all", Mrs. Harvey Johnston presided over the business part of the meeting. The minutes of the April meeting were approved as read and the roll call showed 34 members attending and two visitors, also that 20 home calls and 15 hospital calls had been made. Mrs. Frank McGregor brought a report from the general meeting held on April 12. A bale is to be packed on May 23 and a coffee party will be held on May 18 from 9:30 to 11:30 in the church parlour. Heard gave the Meditation and prayer, Mrs. Riddell introduced the study on Zambia with Mrs. Norman giving an article on the agricultural work being carried out by Lee Holland a missionary from Canada and Mrs. Cudmore an article on Music and Arts in that country. Mrs. Heard then contributed a whistling solo "In the Sweet By and By." Mrs. C. Tebbutt conducted the business. The various reports from the treasurer, flower committee, supply and buying were given. The June meeting will be held one week early as the ham supper Is to be held June 14. It was decided to purchase Bibles for the confirmation class, Mrs, Williams reported that the pictorial plates would soon be ready for sale. They werepresented with such gifts as a silver bracelet with matching earrings for the lady and a wallet for the gentleman, and a beautiful floor lamp to both of them. Stan Falconer acted as master of ceremonies with Mrs, Marg Carter and Mrs. Noreen Elliott doing the presentation. The smorgasbord table was beautifully decorated with candles and a lovely anniversary cake. Three tenders were received for the open work and five for the closed work, The winning tenders were $350 and $4,415 respectively. Court of revision had been held on the Millson drain on April 17 but no appeals were heard. On the same date, one objection had been heard on the report of the Hallam drain regarding the acreage involved on Lot 42. At the May 1 meeting. the clerk was instructed to contact Frank Cowan Insurance agency and find out what commission is paid and what amount of work is involved by each agency.
