Quite a number of members and husbands attended the 60th Birthday Anniversary Banquet and Evening of the Edelweis Rebekah Lodge in the Seaforth community centre May 10, Members were reminded of the Annual I.O.O.F, and Rebekah Lodge Service to be held in Carmel Presbyterian Church May 28 at 10 a,m. Final plans were made for the Dessert Euchre held May 10. Tickets are still available from any Lodge member for the draw on an afghan and a thermal blanket. OBITUARY Many residents of the village of Hensall were saddened this past week to learn of the death of Byron (Doc) Kyle, who passed away very suddenly at his residence on Brock Street, Sunday evening, May '7, 1972, in his 59th year. Mr. Kyle, widely known as "Doc" was born on the Parr Line and has lived and worked for many years in and around the Hensall area as a Decorator, His talents will certainly be missed by the community. In 1937 he married Symons heads town and village section Clinton Mayor Don Symons was elected president of the town and village section of the Ontario Municipal Association during its annual meeting in Parry Sound at the weekend. Mr. Symons, mayor since 1965. is the first representative from Southwestern Ontario to serve on the executive of the section. Dave Low of Fergus was elected secretary-treasurer. Other Clinton representatives at the two-day meeting were 'Reeve Harold Lobb,. clerk treasurer Max Malpass and Coons. James Armstrong and Bill Crawford. The meeting was attended by 267 mayors, reeves, clerks, treasurers and councillors. Ross Love of Clinton, passed away suddenly in Goderich on Thursday, May 4, 1972, in his 70th year, He was the beloved husband of the former Grace Fairbairn, and dear father of Robert, Madison, Wisconsin; Keith, R.R.1, Zurich and Mrs. Ken (Helen) McKay, R.R.2, Kippen; brother of Grant, Caro, Michigan; Glenn, Sudbury; and Mrs, Grace McEwan, R.R.1, Hensall, Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter, The body rested at the Bonthron Funeral Chapel, Hensall when service was held Monday May 8, 1972 with Rev, Lewis, Clinton, and Rev. Packman, Brucefield officiating. Pallbearers were Frank Chapman, John Anderson, Archie Parsons, Ernie Whitehouse, Stan Love and Jim McAllister.Flower bearers were Douglas McKay, Gregory Love and Gary Love. A Masonic service was held Sunday evening at the Funeral Chapel, Interment was in Bairds Cemetery. PERSONAL Mrs. Margaret Thorndike, Clinton, and Mrs. MacDonald of Edmonton, visited with Mrs. Rachel Schwalm Tuesday of last week. UNIT 2 U.C.W. MEETING Unit 2 met Monday evening with Mrs. Kay Mock opening the meeting with welcome and prayer. Mrs. Mona Alderdice read from Luke 24: 13-26, and with Mrs. Grace Drummond and Mrs. Beatrice Richardson explained the scripture passage, Mona, Grace and Beatrice recalled Jesus' commission to his disciples on Ascension Day, lighting candles to symbolize his message—"go", "teach" and "baptize". The minutes were read and approved and the roll call answered with "Did you Know?" with 17 present. A letter was read from Miss Catherine Hunt announcing the Food Forum on June 1 at Clinton High School. Mrs. Joyce Pepper read a poem "The Absentee's Alphabet", and showed the filmstrip "The Garth Legge Reports", on the Church's mission in Africa. Mrs. Fran Nickle thanked all persons that knit bandages, and reminded those of nursery and nursing home duties for May. Mrs. Pat Venner recruited help for the June 3rd catering. Hymn 568 was sung followed by the Mizpah benediction. Mrs. Kay Mock conducted a penny contest. and a delicious lunch was served by Mrs, Dorina Corbett. Mrs. Cathy Mann and Mrs. Fran Mickle. PERSONAL Mr. and Mrs. Ed Fink and Miss Patricia Anstett, Clinton, spent the past weekend in Belleville visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fink and family. SEAFORIM Phone 521-1080 Hensall plans summer. programs BY JOYCE PEPPER PARKS BOARD MEETING Hensall Parks Board met May 2 in the arena and decided to have the Recreation Programme again this year, starting approximately the second week in July, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, for three weeks. It was announced that any services caring to give donations would be appreciated for this worth-while event. HURON PRESBYTERIAL MEETING HELD IN SEAFORTH Huron Presbyterial was held in Seaforth Presbyterian Church last Wednesday afternoon with over 60 members and friends attending from Goderich, Auburn, Blyth, Belgrave, Hensall, and Seaforth. Mrs. Jack -Pollock, Goderich, presided and Mrs. Ray Dyke acted as Secretary. Guest speaker for the afternoon, was Miss Giola Kelly, Toronto, who is the assistant Secretary of the National Council of the Presbyterian Church of Canada. Soloist was Mrs. Christina Newstead, Toronto, Those attending from Hensall were Mrs. Blanche Dougall, Mrs. Grace McEwan, Mrs. Maggie Campbell, Mrs. Ruby Hoggarth, Mrs. Myrtle Orr, Mrs. Janet MacKinnon, Mrs. Rachel Schwalm, Mrs, Madeline Harburn and Mrs. Edith Miller. Mrs, Elizabeth Faber, Library Secretary, displayed and took orders for Christian literature books. Mrs, Rachel Schwalm extended an invitation for the fall rally of the Huron Presbyterial to be held in Carmel Presbyterian Church in Hensall in October, UNIT IV MEETING Unit IV of Hensall U.C.W. met on May 4 with Mrs, James McAllister presiding. She opened the meeting by reading Revelations 21: verse 5 "I have made all things new", followed by prayer. Three hymns were sung with Mrs. T. Sherritt accompanying on the piano, The ladies were treated to a piano solo "Melody in F", by Miss Greta Lammie. The devotional given by Mrs. Leona Park was taken from Matthew 25: 31-40 "And he will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left", followed by prayer. The pictures of Africa on filmstrip were very educational and informative, with Mrs. Rowe and Mrs. Chtpchase showing the filmstrip. The offering was taken by Mrs. Harry Horton. The ladies reported that they had made 83 visits and quilted many quilts. Plans were made to provide flowers for Sunday services in May and for the supper for the teachers soon. Lunch of cookies and tea was served by Mrs. R. McAllister and her committee. HENSALL LEGION LADIES AUXILIARY MEETING HELD Hensall Legion Ladies' Auxiliary meeting was held last Tuesday evening with Mrs. Irene Davis presiding. It was decided to cater to two weddings in June. The Annual Penny ,Sale will be held June 9 in the Legion Hall, with tickets being available from Auxiliary members. A carload of members plan to go to the Zone Rally in Gorrie May 10. Nominations and elections were held with Mrs, Mary Taylor acting as Chairlady. They are as follows• past president, Mrs. Irene Davis; president, Mrs, Mildren Chalmers; first vice, Mrs. Wanda McClinchey; second vice, Mrs. Hilda Smale; secretary, Mrs. Donna Allan; treasurer, Mrs, Mary Bisback; Sargeant-at-arms, Mrs, Iva Reid; Sports officer; Mrs. Iva Reid; pianist, Mrs. Mabel Munn. ' Executive Committee is comprised of Mrs. Annie Horton, Mrs. Alice Neilands, Mrs. Jean Smale, Mrs. Vera Smale and Mrs. the former Olive Brock and the couple had three children, For many years he served on the Hensall Fire Department As a Volunteer member and also as a Chief. At the time of his death he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the 1.0,O.F. Lodge, Mr. Kyle is survived by his parents Thomas and Nancy Kyle of Hensall. He was the beloved husband of the former Olive Brock and dear father of Don, Georgetown; Douglas, at home; and Mrs. Douglas (Suzanne) Johnston, Lucan; and dear brother of Dave, Hensall; Russel, St. Catharines; Roy, Timmins; Mrs. Arnold (Isobelle) Merner, Zurich; and Mrs. Clarence (Dorothy) Turkey, London. Three grandchildren also survive, The body rested at the Bonthron Funeral Chapel, Hensall, until Wednesday, May 10, 1972, when service was held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Don Beck officiating, Interment in Hensall Union Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack Brintnell, Gerald Glenn, Tom Brintnell, Ted Taylor, Stewart Bell and Don Dixon, Flowerbearers were Robert Merner, Eddie Kyle, Gary Kyle and James Tuckey. A Legion Service was held by the Hensall Branch of the Canadian Legion Tuesday evening at the Funeral Home also an 1.0.0.F. Lodge Service the same evening.
