. A large crowd of Clinton and
area residents attended the
Spring Thankoffering of the
Wesley-Willis and Ontario St.
United Church Women held in

P.D.P. Mrs. Glenn Bell will be
April 20 to. Amber Lodge. The
committee in charge to make final
plans. Plans are being made to
hold a Dessert Euchre and Bake

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mickle,
London, visited Friday evening
with the formers parents Mr. and
Mrs, Laird Miekle and also
attended the Operetta in Exeter
that evening.
UNIT 2 APRIL THANK
OFFERING MEETING
Unit 2 Hensall U.C.W. held
their April Thank Offering
meeting on Monday evening. Mrs.
Bob Reaburn acted as Chairlady,
and opened the meeting with
Ontario St, Church on Sunday
evening.
Mrs. George Wright, Mrs. A.
Mowatt and Mrs. Howard greeted
the guests and Mrs. Ross
Trewartha led in the call to
worship. Mrs. Mary Murch, Mrs,
Ted Davies and Mrs.. Clifford
Stewart conducted the devotional,
with the theme being "Christian
Women in the World", Ushers
were Mrs. George Colclough,
Mrs. Lorna Radford, Mrs. Ken
Wood and Miss Mary Jamieson.
Special music was by the
Belgrave Men's choir.
Mrs. Frank Fingland
introduced the guest Speaker, Dr.
Charles Moyo, Seaforth who
spoke on "The contraversy on
Drugs". The social, political and
economic causes of drug abuse,
and the role of parent-child
relationship in the drug culture
and the need to realize that
marijuana is detrimental to
mental and physical health as well
as causing extra burden on
society.
Thanks to Dr. Moyo and the
choir was ektended by Mrs.
Norman Trewartha, with
benediction by Rev. L. Lewis.
A social hour followed the
meeting.
everyone reading hymn 364 in
unison. Scripture from John 15
1-8 introduced the theme of the
devotional "Frintfuliness". Mrs.
Reaburn read an article entitled
"Grapes" in keeping with the
theme, followed by prayer,
The devotional closed with the
singing of hymn 390. Minutes
were read and approved, and the
roll call was answered by 23
members and five guests Present.
Special guest speaker for the
evening, Dr, Charles Moyo, of
Seaforth, who was born in South
Africa, gave a most informative
talk op the geographical cultural
and political situation in South
Africa.
Dr. Moyo's first hand
knowledge macie his subject most
interesting. It was announced that
Unit 2 is responsible for crafts at
the Queensway Nursing Home,
and the Church Nursery in May.
The General Meeting is to be held
on May 1, Mrs. Rodger Venner
gave a very favourable report on
the Spring Thaw Supper. The
meeting closed with the Mizpah
benediction, Mrs. Eric Mansfield

spent a few days last week with
her aunt, Mrs. J. A. McBeath.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Herman and
family, London, were guests of
Mrs. Herman's parents, Mr. and
Mrs, W. Jackson last week.
Mrs. George Henderson has
returned home after having spent
the winter months in Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Hunt and
family spent the weekend with Mr.
and Mrs, Stewart Broadfoot.
Mrs. John A. McEwen returned
home on Friday after spending the
winter with her daughter, Mrs. R.
Zurbrigg, Wingham,
Mr. and Mrs. James Broadfoot,
Windsor, spent Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. John Broadfoot:
Mrs. A. Paterson returned
home on Sunday having spent two
weeks in Toronto.

is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Scott and Mrs. A. Ham and Miss

HENSALL LADY'S SISTER
DIES IN STATES
Therepassecl away suddenly in
Greencastle, Indiana, April 3,
1972, Annie C. Hopkins, beloved
widow of the late Robert Hopkins
of Hinsdale, Illinois. She was the
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs,
John Cochrane of Stanley
Township. Surviving are sisters,
Mrs. Agnes Northey, Cameron,
Ontario; Mrs. Hugh (Polly)
McMurtrie, Hensall; Mrs. Lorne
(Claudia) Eiler, Toronto; Mrs.
Ross (Ida) Dick, Springhill, N,S.;
Mrs. Charles (Edna) Robertson,
Bath, Ontario; brothers, James
Cochrane, Toronto; and William
Cochrane, Hinsdale, Illinois.
Service took place April 6,1972
under the auspices of the
Christian Science Church in
Greencastle. Interment was made
in Hinsdale, Illinois. Those able
to attend from this area were Mr.
and Mrs, Alex McMurtrie,
Kippen, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Hillier of Tharnesford.

AND EXPLORERS MEET
Carmel Presbyterian C.O.C.
and Explorers combined together
for their April 9 meeting, when 12
members and four leaders were
guests in the home of Mrs. Rachel
Schwalm, who showed souvenirs
and photos from trips she had
taken to North Africa and the
Barbados. As one child said, "It
was just like being in Africa."
Refreshments were served and
the meeting was reluctantly
adjourned with the leaders
thanking Mrs. Schwalm for her
hospitality. Next meeting will be
April 23,

Anthony Gelderland of
Ridgetown, spent the weekend and
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony T. VanDyke
of Three Rivers, Quebec, are
presently visiting with Mr, and
Mrs. Sim Roobal and other
relatives.,
UNIT IV OF HENSALIALC.W,
Unit W of Refrain U.C.W. met
on April 6 with the leader Mrs,
James McAllister presiding. The
meeting opened by Mrs.
McAllister reading a poem sent to
her by Mrs. Harold Currie,
followed by prayer.
Miss Amy Lammie gave a very
fine devotional from Luke 24
Verses 1-18. She said not to worry
about our doubts, because no
doubt we will have an experience
when we feel the Spirit of Jesus.
Mrs. Earl Rowe spoke on the
Easter theme and reviewed the
events leading up to Easter. She
also read a very interesting
article taken from The Globe and
Mail regarding the Holy Land as it
is today. The roll call showed 27
present, Plans were made to quilt
two quilts the week of April 10. It
was decided to ask Mrs. H. Horton
to act as hostess for the next
meeting.
HENSALL LEGION LADIES
AUXILIARY MEET
Hensall Legion Ladies
Auxiliary met in the Legion Hall
Tuesday evening. Special guest
for the evening was Mrs, E.
Carroll, Zone Commander, who
gave a yearly report on work done
within the Auxiliaries.
Mrs. Anne Klungel reported on
the need for funds for the Mentally
Retarded Adults Workshop for
South Huron. It was announced
that the Zone Rally is May 10 at
Gorrie. An invitation was
accepted to attend the 20th
Birthday party of the Seaforth
AuXiliary on April 19.
Sports Officer Mrs. Iva Reid,
announced there would be a
bowling tournament in Seaforth on
May 3. Proceeds from the Easter
Hamper Draw held recently, were
$149.25, which will be sent to the
Crippled Children's Treatment
Centre in London. A gift was
presented to Mrs. Carroll by the
President Mrs. Irene Davis.
The mystery prize was won by
Mrs. Cathy Bell; guessing prize
by Mrs. Vera Smale; and
attendance prize by Mrs. Donna
Allan. A penny sale was enjoyed
amongst the members at the close
of the meeting.

Braithwaite wedding in Chatham
on Saturday, April 8, 1972 were
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gemmell,
parents of the groom; Mr. and
Mrs. Ken Gemmell, Mr. and Mrs,
Hank Binnendyk, Mr. arid Mrs.
Bruce McGregor and Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Papple,
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Taylor
have returned from Florida
where they spent the winter
Months.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert McGregor
spent Sunday in Kitchener visiting
relatives.

Rebekah Lodge was held
Wednesday evening in the Lodge
rooms with Mrs. Ernie Chipchase
presiding and being assisted by
Mrs, Bev Deaton.
There were 13 members
present, The semi-annual report
was given by Mrs. Ed Corbett and
approved. Invitations were
received and accepted from
Seaforth 'Edelweis Lodge,
Morning Star Lodge, Brussels,
Goderich Lodge and Moncton Star
Lodge,
A number of members plan to
attend these meetings. The
District meeting of District No.
23 Rebekah Lodges will be held
Wednesday afternoon in the
Hensall Lodge rooms at 2 p.m.,
with all Lodges in the district to
be in attendance. Final
arrangements to be made for the
,smorgasbord lunch by the
