It was decided by a vote of the Members that they would spend 310Q0 for development .of the kitchen in the Community Centre, Publicity chairman Mr. Roes , Merrill also inforMed us that many activities are under discussion for the summer and fall, as the Bayfield Lions Club are celebrating their 25th Anniversary; so it should prove to be a busy 19'72 for the Lion's Club, A meeting of the Hayfield Agricultural Society was held Wednesday evening, March 22 in the Municipal Building, The President, Everett Mcllwain presided and the minutes and treasurers reports were approved and, passed. Discussion centred around this year's Fall Fair to be held on the Friday arid Saturday of Labour Day week-end. The therne*of the fair will. be "The Bayfield Old Time COuntry Fair" and a. number of events in keeping' with thiS theme are `planned; such as log-sawing contests, nail driving contests, and horse pitching etc. There are to be displays featuring old time threshing machines and shingle makers. The Historical Society will be invited to have an exhibit at the fair also. Harry Baker and Gordon Graham reported that the Bayfield Lions Club would assist the Fair by providing some of the games of chance. Fred Clift, chairman of the special events committee reported that a number of changes will be made this year in the events and some of the prizes were updated. Tom Penhale will contact the Goderich Museum with regard to having their bus at our fair to tie in with the Old Time Theme. Further to the Old Time Theme, the committee members and people attending the Fair will be 'urged to be attired in Old Time costumes. Prize lists are being compiled and it is hoped to have the bdoklets out early in April. The next meeting will be at the call of the president. Mr. and Mrs. William Burdge and Marlene of Angus spent the weekend with Mr. Fred Burdge and Rick. Mrs, Malcolm Davidson held a very successful sale on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Robinson and family, St. Thomas spent Sunday with Mrs. Robinson's brother, Vic Hagrea.ves and family. Mr. and Mrs. Rob Snell, Goderich, visited on Sunday at Mrs. Snell's home. Mr. Joe Beechie of London and Hayfield; one of a group of Canadian Tourists, flew into Cuba for visit. They spent from March 12 to the 19 there; and were the first group allowed into Cuba since the Revolution of 1964. Mrs, Joe Beechie and three children were in Orangeville last week on a skiing holiday. Mr. and Mrs,'Ross Merrill and Brian were on a weekend skiing trip to .Beaver Valley, this past week-end, (Brian doing the siding) Mr. and Mrs. Art Latimer, Bill, Gil and Christy returned to their home in Toronto after visiting her Mother, Mrs. Gilbert Knight for the past week. Mrs. G. Delano Erickson, Paul Douglas and Miss Faye Leigh of Barrie spent last Thursday at the E, Walter Erickson home. Mrs. Irene De Cow, St. Thomas was with 'her cousin Mrs. E. Walter Erickson, Saturday; and attended the funeral of her uncle, the late Willard R, (Byrd) Sturgeon. Mrs. De Cow is the daughter of the late Albert Catling and Sarah Sturgeon former residents of the village. Mrs. Margaret Garrett, Norma, Diane and John were in Wellesley last week-end as the guests sof Mr. and Mrs. Ron Bowers, Cathy, Sharon and Miss Debbie Hopf. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Chapman, (Cloudslee) Bruce Mines, visited the R. Roy Fitzsimmons family fora couple of days on their way home from Florida. Mr, and Mrs. Bill Parker attended an Art Show in the Toronto-Dominion Bank in Mitchell last Tuesday, at which Mrs. Parker's sister Mrs, J.E. French was an exhibitor. Sunday evening Mr. and Mrs. Parker attended a Confirmation Service in St. Pauls Cathedral in London when their two grandchildren Pam and Jack Parker of Dorchester were Confirmed. Mr. and Mrs. Jack B. Sturgeon and son Bud spent Monday in London with their daughter and sister, Miss Rhea. 'Mrs. A.F. Scotchmer accompanied her husband home on Sunday after spending 10 days with her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, Mr, and Mrs. Steve Scotchmer, Jodi and Molly, Mr. Calvin Scotchmer of London spent the week-end at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Scotchmer. We are pleased to report that Mr. Gordon Scotchmer and Mrs. Fred Atkell, who have both been patients in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, are able to be in their respective homes. We wish them continued good health. Since condolences are extended to Mr. Cliff Utter, in the sudden passing of his sister Mrs. Dorothy Pite as the result of a motor vehicle accident a week ago Sunday. Everyone signed their names on an apron with liquid embroidery, A bride's trousseau contest was conducted by Mrs. Joe Verwey. A contest "What will the bride wear" was conducted by Mrs. Toni Cunningham. A name bingo was given by Mrs. L, Archambault, A mock wedding was given by neighbours. The bride was Vaughan flunking; groom, Brenda Archambault; bridesmaid, Shirley flunking; best man, Nancy Lapp; minister, Brenda Ball; bride's mother, Bernice flunking; father, Mrs. Ted flunking. Mrs. Tom Cunningham read an address of congratulations and gifts were presented by neighbour girls and Marilyn Archambault., Louise thanked everyone for their gifts and a hat made of ribbon bows made by Miss Brenda Archambault was placed on the guest of honour. A lunch was served by Mrs. Archambault assisted by Mrs. Thomas Cunningham and Mrs, Joe Verwey. Mr, Keith Scott of London spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Scott, Wayne and Eric. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Rea of Sarnia visited recently with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Dobie and Ross. AUBURN W.I. MEETING The March meeting of the Auburn Women's Institute was held in the Community Memorial Hall with the president, Mrs. Leonard Archambault in charge. Mrs. Robert Phillips presided at the piano. The meeting was opened with the Ode, the Mary Stewart Collect and 0 Canada. The minutes were read by the secretary, Mrs. Donald Haines and she also presented the financial statement. The correspondence was read. The Executive meeting of the Huron West District will be held on April 10 at St. Helens. The members voted to have the short course Ontario Fruit and second choice being Women's Institute Procedure: -Plans were - made for the Huronview birthday party on April 19. Committees were set up for the bowling banquet on April 22. The members voted to purchase a new flag for the village town hall. Plans were made for the 50th Anniversary of the Auburn Branch on May 2. The committee reported on plans made and presented them to the members. The next meeting will be the annual meeting and as this is the 50th year and the 75th anniversary of the founding of this world-wide organization, it is hoped that new members will join and help in this organization which works for Home and Country. Mrs. Thomas Haggitt gave a paper on the latest current events and Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson gave an inspiring message on the motto "Let us truly listen when those around us speak". The roll call "A public relation act I did this year" was answered by the Members. In the absence of the convener of the card committee, Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell, Mrs, Donald Cartwright gave her report and read the thank you notes, An interesting paper on the life of Erland Lee and of his home at Stoney Creek prepared by Mrs. Eleanor Bratinock was reed by Mrs, Frank Raithby. Mrs. Robert Phillips' played a piano instrumental, The collection was taken by Lode Cartwright and Shelley Haggitt. Mrs. Donald Cartwright conducted an impressive memorial service for Mrs. Edgar Lawson who passed away recently. She had been president of the Auburn Branch for many ,years and was a first year member, Gifts were presented to Mrs, Leonard Archambault for having a birthday nearest that date; to Mrs. Pearl Watson for coming the farthest, Mrs. William Elliott for having the lucky cup and Mrs, Wilfred Sanderson for having the lucky saucer. Lunch was served by Mrs. Arnold Craig, Mrs. Charles Scott, Mrs, William Dodd and Mrs. Beth Lansing. Auburn 1, 4-11 club held their fourth meeting at the home of the leader, Mrs. Donald Haines. The meeting was opened with the pledge and the minutes read by Doreen McClinchey. Mrs. Haines demonstrated bias binding, lace or eyelet facing on bottom and a bias binding casing. Mrs. Jessie Naylor demonstrated the making of bias binding. All girls made samples. Last weekend, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Youngblut and family of London, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Youngblut and family of Ottawa and Mrs. Ralph Munro visited with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Youngblut and family of Toronto at their chalet at Wasaga Beach. Mrs. Gordon Taylor took her grandchildren, Michael and Janice Rathwell home to Chatham after they had visited her during the winter vacation. She will visit for a few days with her daughter, Mrs. Ronald Rathwell and Mr. Rathwell and family, AUBURN 3 4-H The fifth meeting of Auburn 3, 4-li club, the Kozy Kittens met at the home of Mrs. John Hildebrand. The president, Barbara Chamney opened the meeting and the minutes were read by secretary Cathy McClinchey. The roll call was answered by Comparing prices of Orel; sleepwear to that of ready-mades. Mrs. Frank Raithby and Mrs. Hildebrand demonstrated lap seams and eyelet lace insertion, _Barbara Chamney prepared the covers for the members. The Meeting was closed with the Creed. KOZY KITTENS The sixth meeting of the Kozy Kittens 4-H club was held at the home of Mrs. Frank Raithby. Barbara Chamney was in charge The Old Tyme Club of Clinton and their musicians Mrs, Ross Broadfoot, Kippen, Frank Forest, Hensall and caller, Gordon Papple, Seaforth, visited Huronview on Friday evening volunteers Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Howard, Willa Taylor and several residents took part in some of the round, wheelchair and square dances. Monday, March 19, was once again the day for the Old Tyme Music session, with the entertainment being provided this week by Norman Speir and two guests, Mr, and Mrs, Bert Finlay. The first two gentlemen played violins while Mrs. Finlay accompanied them on the piano. The residents in attendance had, as usual, a very enjoyable afternoon of their favourite old time songs. A special and unique event on the program, was the step dancing, done very capably by Miss Bonnie Storey. Her talents were appreciated by everyone in attendance. A group of six volunteers from Goderich of the meeting. Demonstration on setting in sleeves and reinforced seams was done by Mrs. John Hildebrand and Mrs. Frank Raithhy. Mr. and Mrs. Heiman Chamney of Windsor visited last week with his father, Mr, Robert Chamney, They were on their way home from a holiday spent in Florida. Miss Shelley Haggitt of Zurich visited last week • with her grandparents, Mr, and Mrs. Thomas flaggitt. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell had a letter last week from their granddaughter, Mary Anne Blake of Brussels, who is on a tour of Germany with Grade 12 students from Seaforth High, School. Mary Anne was at Friesenheim when she wrote the letter. were on hand to render their services with the program. We thank them very much for their time and effort. Plans were made at the Monday afternoon meeting of the Huronview Women's Auxiliary for the spring tea which is to be held in the auditorium on WeTdnheesdway0,0(Mihaaym and n 3. men's club were in charge of the Thursday Family Night program. President Glen Copeland introduced the numbers which included dances by Janice Burgin and Susan Spence; the Morrison sisters, Lorrie, Lynda, Lisa; instrumentals by Bob Robinson, Burns Blackler, Ellen Eveleigh, Lawrence Rodd, Laurel Ractliffe; vocals by the Copeland sisters; Philip Backler and a lively sing-a- long led by Mrs. Spence and Robert Rundle. Mrs. Waghorn, a former resident of the Woodham area, thanked the group on behalf of the residents.
