SENIORS THUMP WINGHAM BY NOLA LEE On Jan. 20 the Senior Boys' Basketball - Team thumped Wingham by a score of 54 to„,,24. High scorers for the Clinton team were Pete Cameron with 15 points, Bob Rielh with 10 points and Paul Bartliff with eight points. Then on Jan. 27 they played a close game here, defeating Goderich 52 to 51. High scorers for this game were: Pete, Cameron with 22 points and Dick Jewson with 19 points. Next game will he here on Thursday, Feb. 3 against St. Marys. Mike Anstett led the Clinton Squad with four goals and an assist in a very easy game. Single goals were picked up by John Vanloo, Randy Millar, Dan Colquhoun and John Graham. Each team picked up six penalties including a 10-minute misconduct to George Leslie of Mitchell. On Saturday night the Midgets closed their regular schedule with an exciting 3.2 win over Goderich that picked them up four points. The game was exciting and roughly played, Goderich opened the scoring at 3:27 of the second on a goal by Fisher. Clinton tied the score at 11:32 with Steve Wilkinson scoring on a set-up by Randy Miller and Dan Colquhoun. At 8:53 of the third period, Goderich took the lead once again The Fish' and Game Club Bantams were poor hosts to their Clinton New York guests during Minor Hockey weekend, beating their American friends 6-2 on Friday evening and again Saturday evening by a 4-3 score. Both were very good games with the local boys having their friday night while running up a decisive margin, Saturday the New York boys were as good as the 4-3 score indicated. The local boys had to give iteverything they hail to come out on top. ST., S., C INTON1 On Monday night in Mitchell, Don Stewart led the way with a hat- trick, scoring at 4;10 of the first period and adding two more in the third Period as the Midgets defeated Mitchell 8-0. Other Clinton scorers were Mike Anstett with two and Rick Cameron, Randy Millar and Butch Heipel, one each. This gives the Midgets the best of three series and they meet Seaforth later this week, an another goal by Fisher. But their lead was short-lived as Mike Anstett was set up by Colquhoun at 9:23. With only a minute and 10 seconds left, Randy Millar banged in the winner on a goal set up by Don Stewart and Colquhoun. The game was a rough one with a total of 18 penalties being assessed, 10 to Goderich and eight to Clinton. This included a 10 minute misconduct to Mark Duncan of Goderich. began which will declare a WOAA Bantam C winner to advance in the WOAA playoffs. Graham scored Clinton's lone goal on a powerplay in the Wrestlers lose tourtament BY MARY LOU CASTLE Rick Shropshall, Central Huron's top wrestler for this year, won both his matches against Exeter and St. Marys late last week. Rick now has 14 wins and two losses. He was also presented with a trophy for being top wrestler in the 167 lb. class, Wayne Hartman placed second in his weight class against St, Marys. However, the team on a whole has no wins in the duel meets as yet. The team is composed of first and second year wrestlers and this promises to be a big boost to them next year, second period. This was a big win for the Mustangs as the two points moved them into a tie for third place with Mitchell, only a game back of second place Belmont, A big improvement in the Mustangs was the return to the lineup of the club's leading scorer, Stu Mustard. His right winger, Ron Gwaham became the second player tefteHhitlie‘20-goalt. level as his hat trick included his 18th, 19th, and 20th goals of the season. In Exeter on Friday night, Exeter fired in six powerplay goals out of their total of eight. Five different Clinton players had a hand in scoring: Gord Riley, Bill Stirling, Mike Anstett and Bill and Wayne McDougall. Anstett was one of two local Midgets called up for the game. He scored a pretty goal in the second and Brian Kennedy played a good checking game. Missing from the lineup were Bill Crawford, Jim Cameron, Stu Mustard and Gary Cummings. The win moved Exeter into first place for the first time this season. The Mustangs back into third place tie but the Hawks picked up a win over the weekend from Lambeth to again move two points ahead of Clinton. ' Two tough weekend games, the first in Tavistock Thursday and the next in Exeter Friday will decide bow important the final game of the schedule between Mitchell and Clinton in Mitchell on Feb. 8 will be. While the Mustangs battle for either third or fourth place, the two top teams, Exeter and Belmont, are staying within a point. of each other. This past Tuesday Belmont was in Exeter and Sunday night Exeter finishes their schedule back in Belmont. The Irish came out of the first period with a 1.1 tie, Ron Graham opened the scoring with his 21st goal, He banged in a perfect pass from Bill Stirling who had worked his pass from a corner spot. Clinton moved in front with two goals by team captain Bob Cook. Bill McDougall and Gord Riley set up the first goal, then Riley and Bill Crawford teamed up for the first of four power play goals, at 8:19. Riley sent the pass back to Cook which resulted in the goal. After sitting out most of the season, big Mark Jenkins found his scoring touch with two, back- to-back power play goals in the second, His first came from a play started by defenceman Bill McDougall. John McKinley knocked down McDougall's hard shot and flipped the puck back to Jenkins. Bill Stirling picked up his 26th assist of the year on Jenkins second goal. Bob Cook picked up his third goal midway through the third, earning him the manager's • bonus for scoring the hat trick. The wrist-shot specialist, Wayne McDougall, connected for his 10th goal at 18:48. Lucan scored on a rebound shot in the first period on German, then put in a quicky at 21 seconds of the third. A good turnout of fans will really help give the boys a moral boost in Exeter Friday night. Due to the winter carnival activities next week, be Mustangs will not CHSS voleyball girls win BY NOLA LEE Last Friday the Junior Girls' Volleyball Team reigned victorious at Stratford. They defeated ,Mitchell and Stratford. The Senior Girls' Team were able to defeat Mitchell, but were defeated by the Northwestern Team. There was one injury sustained by the Clinton Team. Marlene Cunningham pulled and tore the ligaments in her ankle. However, the team hopes to see her back in action soon. In the first game, Seaforth came up with a win of 8-3. However, in the second game with Seaforth holding a tie at the end of nine ends and with last stone coming home, Bob threw one a bit too heavy giving Galt the win '7-6. The third game was a different story. With determination written all over their faces they ended up with a 8.4 win to give them a spot in the All Ontario Playdowns, in Brantford, This will be a three- day event on the weekend of Feb, 12. Caldwell of London; and Jack Hodgins, Wingham. Unfortunately they came home trophyless but have something of more value: memories of the Quebec hospitality. A play-off .to see who would represent our club in the "Intermediates" was held in our Club Sunday evening. Jack Patterson's rink of Cliff Parker, Bill Lobb and Herb Travis played Lloyd Rowatt's rink of john Langstaff, Frank Case and Harold Pryce, with Patterson's rink coming up with the honour.
