MARP RUDO The Ontario Barrow Show, the
largest show of its type in Canada,
Will be held Thursday, Feb. 24, at
the Western Fair Grounds,
beginning at 10:45 a.m.
Over 52000 in prize Money,
plus trophies and ribbons, will be
awarded, There will be classes
for all breeds, crossbreeds, a
nominated litter class, and a
truck-lot class.
The judges will be Charles J,
Christians of the University of
Minnesota, and Bob Robson, of
Maple, Ontario. The winning
carcasses will be displayed at
Coleman's Packing Company
Ltd., London, on Saturday, Feb.
26, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m,
The carcass sale will be held
March 1 at 12:2Q p,rn,, at the
Western Fair Grounds during the
farm show. The all-breed swine
sale will be held at the Grounds at
1:30 p.m. the same day, The
Barrow Show banquet will he held
that evening.
All Ontario swine producers
are invited to enter the show,

The Royal Canadian Legion,
Branch 140, was the scene of a
very successful "Scotch Kiltie
Datiee" last weekend, The object
of the dance was to raise funds for
the Pipe Band and Percy Brown
tellk us that a good sum was
reaized. Although another
orchestra played for round
dancing, there were two pipers
present who marched about
playing and some sottish songs
were sung.

A new and interesting contest
has been run in the Clinton area
elementary schools this year in
connection with the fourth (Feb. 7,-
13) annual Clinton and District
Winter Carnival,
It actually consisted of two
separate competitions, a poster
contest for grades five thx'u grade
8 and a drawing contest for grades
four to kindergarten. Five prizes
were awarded in each contest.
The winning entries are all on
display at the Clinton Lions Club
nearly new store and the runners-
up are randomly displayed at
other local stores.

The Explorer Group held a
skating party at the local rink on
Tuesday evening last afterwards
lunch was served at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Eric Chuter.
The United Church Women are
holding their February meeting
Ice fishermen are reminded
that registration of their fish hut
is required on the following lakes:
Lake Simcoe, Lake Couchiching
(Maple District); Lake Nipissing
(North Bay, Sudbury, and Parry
Sound District); Lake Temagami
(North Bay District); Lake of
Bays (Parry Sound District);
Puslinch Lake (Lake Huron
District); Boshkung, Twelve
Mile, Big Gull (Lindsay District).
At the time of registration the
owner will be given a number
which he must put on the outside of
the hut in •nurnerals not less than
two and one-half inches high, The
number is permanent and doesn't
need to be removed in the ensuing
years. Any person using a hut on
the lake without a proper number
can be charged under the Game
and Fish Act, his, hut seized, and
upon conviction assessed a
penalty by the Court and his hut
forfeited to the Crown.
The purpose of registering fish
huts is to identify the owner and to
control the removal of huts by
March 31, so that none are left to
hinder navigation in summer or
spoil the shoreline. Huts may be
registered through the local
district office of the department
of lands and forests or
conservation officer in the area.
Leaving from Miami, Florida,
they called at San Juan, Peurto
Rico, to view an ultra-mqdern
milking installation featuring
automatic cow-washing and
Milker take-off; also St. Thomas
in the Virgin Islands. A scheduled
stop at Nassau was cancelled
because of heavy seas. While
cruising, Cuba, Dominican
Republic and Haiti were sighted,
All 721 passengers were
connected in sonic way with the
Surge products. The Cullens were
caught by the air strike, and after
returning from Miami to Buffalo
by air, had to complete the trip to
Toronto by bus.
Mr. and Mrs, Roy Cullen of
Maitland Concession, Goderich
Township, just recently returned
from a week long Caribbean
cruise aboard the Norwegiaq
liner, Skyward.

in the honor of Margaret Ann
(Peggy) Stretton bride-elect who
married Brian Harold Campbell,
R. R. 1, Exeter, Jan. 29.
Neighbours and friends
gathered in the Legion Hall Jan.
20 in her honor.
Kathy Fuss, Mrs. Ernie Davis
and Kay Davis conducted contests
and Melanie Veal and Susan
Stretton were the prize winners.
The guest of honor was seated
in a decorated chair beneath an
umbrella and streamers. The
gifts were presented by Judy
Campbell and Susan Stretton
assisted by Nancy Stretton. A
social hour concluded the event.
Anne Morrissey, Crediton was
hostess for a miscellaneous
shower attended by school friends
of the bride-elect.
A community shower, hosted by
Mrs. John Goddard, Mrs. Irene
Davis, Kay Davis and Edna Mae
Sangster was held in the Hensall

has been rescheduled and will now
be on Feb. 5, Everyone is asked to
meet at the Church at 8:30 to
arrange transportation and will
again return to the Church later
for refreshments.
Horton were re-appointed
Auditors for the year 19'72.
Mr. Ross Kercher was again
appointed Lay Delegate to the
Huron-Perth Presbytery with Bill
Mickle as Alternate.
The Congregation expressed
their thanks to Harvey Keys for
acting as Treasurer for the past
two years, and it was announced
that Cecil Pepper will now act as
Church Treasurer. •

Mrs. Carl Payne left this week
for a short visit with her daughter
and son-in-law, S-Sgt. and Mrs.
Gary T. Merritt, Gregory and
Lisa at Oceanside, California.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Coghlin
of Atwood, visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon Schwalm, on Sunday.
Sunday morning in Hensall
United Church, Tanya Lynn,
infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Baker of Stratford
received the rights of baptism.
Rev. Don Beck chose for his
sermon the theme "Run with
Determination" and the choir
sang the anthem "0 Happy
Home".
The annual Congregational
meeting and pot luck dinner was
held in Chiselhurst United Church
on Thursday afternoon.
Rev. Beck chaired the business
portion of the meeting. Stewards
retiring in 1971 were Ross
Sararas, Mrs. Jack Brintnell and
Mrs. Gerald Glenn. These were
re-appointed and will retire now
in 1976.
The life and work of the
congregation was appraised and
reviewed in the annual report
booklet.
Harold Parker and Clarence
Coleman were re-appointed
auditors for 1972 and Mary
Kinsman was re-appointed
recording secretary for the
congregation.
The congregation reported that
they had had a very successful
year in 1971.
The C.O.C. of Carmel
Presbyterian Church met on
Sunday morning.
Leader Beatrice Thompson
opened the meeting with the roll
call being answered by six
members present. The offering
was taken and it was emphasized
to the children that the offering
would go to buy Bibles and hymn
books for boys and girls in
Nigeria.
Leader Mrs. Robert Taylor
introduced the study on Africa,
this month's being on Nigeria.
The story of a Nigerian boy and
how a missionary helped him was
told by Mrs. Taylor.
Many lovely valentines were
made for crafts.
The meeting closed with
prayer,.

KINETTE CLUB MEETING
The Hensall Kinettes held their
Jan. 26 meeting at the home of
Mrs. Ian McCallum. Guest for the
evening was Mrs. Dean McKnight
from the Exeter Kinette Club.
Following a hockey game on
Feb. 6, between St. Michael's
College and the Hensall All-Stars,
the Kinettes will cater to a meal
for the players.
A silent auction was held for
entertainment.

ANNUAL MEETING
The Annual supper and
Congregational meeting of
Hensall United Church was held in
the Fellowship Hall Wednesday
evening.
Following a bountiful meal
served by the U,C.W., Edison
Forrest paid tribute to Rev. and
Mrs, Beck and a token of our
appreciation was presented by
Mrs. Jack Drysdale..
Rev. Beck read Scripture from
St. Luke with the theme being
"See my hands", followed by
prayer.
The business portion of the
evening was chaired by the
Minister, Rev. Beck. The Life and
Work of the Congregation was
appraised and set forth, and
reviewed in the Annual report
booklet,
The proposed budget for 1972
was presented by Mrs. Jack
Drysdale, Chairman of the
Stewardship Committee and
accepted.
The restructed board was
reviewed and recommendations
were approved by the
Congregation.
