TO ALL RESIDENTS OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF MORRIS-TURNBERRY PLEASE HELP KEEP THIS WINTER A SAFE ONE The Council of the Municipality of Morris-Turnberry hereby requests the cooperation of the residents regarding the parking of cars and other vehicles, and the depositing of snow on municipal roads during the period in which snow clearing operations are necessary. It is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act, Section 170 (12) to: “Park or stand a vehicle on a highway in such a manner as to interfere with the movement of traffic or the clearing of snow from the highway.” Also, Section 181 states: “No person shall deposit snow or ice on a roadway without permission in writing to do so from the Ministry or the Road Authority responsible for the Maintenance of the Road.” Parking is not permitted on any street or road within the Municipality of Morris-Turnberry between the hours of 2 am and 6 am from November 1st to April 15th. Violators will be ticketed and may have their vehicles towed and impounded. Neither the Municipality of Morris-Turnberry nor the ‘Snow Plow operators’ will be held responsible for damage done to vehicles or mailboxes on the Municipal Road Allowance. Your help and cooperation in these matters is greatly appreciated and will aid in a safer winter for all. (Jim Brown photo) The Wingham Ironmen got back on the winning track last Friday evening in Western Junior C Hockey League action, beating Hanover by a score of 9-4. Playing at the P and H Centre in Hanover, the Ironmen broke open a close 1-1 game with five unanswered goals in the second period on their way to a victory over the Barons. Each team scored three times in the third period to reach the 9-4 final score. Jackson Martin netted a pair of goals to pace the win. Blair Goss, Cory MacDonald, Wade Stephenson and Cole Pellet collected a goal and an assist each for Wingham. Contributing one goal apiece were Aaron Armstrong, Dan Dery and Graham Ashcroft. David Jones picked up a pair of assists. The Ironmen outshot the Barons 35-25 as Matt Stirling earned the win in the Wingham net. The Ironmen play three games this weekend. The second-place Ironmen take on the league-leading Walkerton Hawks on Friday beginning at 8 p.m. at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex. On Saturday, the Ironmen travel to Mount Forest for an 8:30 p.m. contest against the Patriots. Wingham concludes the trio of weekend games in Goderich on Sunday for a 4:30 p.m. game. (Vicky Bremner photo) The Saugeen Maitland A Lightning Midgets brought home silver medals from the Whitby Tournament of Heroes on the weekend, falling to the Sarnia Sting with a 2-1 loss in the final contest. The Sting scored first, with the Lightning answering on the power- play goal late in the second period. After a scoreless third period, the match was settled shortly before the end of the four-on-four overtime, when a Sarnia player knocked in the deciding goal. In round-robin play, the Lightning downed the Nepean Wildcats 4-2 and the Burlington Barracudas 4-3, before falling short to Sarnia 6-1. In the quarter-finals, Saugeen met a tough Hamilton team, turning them away 1-0. In the semi-finals against a strong North Halton squad, a 2-2 tie at the end of regular play sent the game into overtime. With 14 seconds left to play, the Lightning struck to hurl the Twisters spinning back to North Halton. Team members include Vanessa Armstrong (Gorrie), Taylor Belanger (Neustadt), Danielle Bennett (Port Elgin), Kassidy Eckert (Seaforth), Justine Gayman (Formosa), Justine Glerum (Mount Forest), Kelly Gribbons (Port Elgin), Chelsea Houle (Clifford), Rae Ann McArthur (Southampton), Lisa Mohr (Mitchell), Sarah Oehm (Port Elgin), Kristen Pearn (Mitchell), Natalie Vink (Kirkton), and Stacie Vink (Kirkton). Head coach Kevin Armstrong is supported by assistant coaches Chris Glerum and Joe Vink, Trainers Linda Oehm and Terri Junker, and Manager Penny Gribbons. The team has a record of 4-2-5 in regular season play. They play on Saturday, with a double- header against East Kent on their home ice in Howick.
