Grey bridge posts receive approval OPP reminds snowmobilers to await open trailsDespite the looks of winteroutside, local police and snowmobile trailers say trails are not open yet. In addition, ignoring these facts could result in trespassing charges orserious safety concerns. The Huron Ontario ProvincialPolice (OPP) has been advised bymembers of the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs that people have been observed trespassing on yet-to-be-opened snowmobile trails. In an effort to ensure safety for all,the OPP is trying to get the messageout that none of the trails are openyet for public use. Entering the trailsat this time is considered to be trespassing and charges will be laid. There is a serious safety issue for those travelling on the trails prior to them being opened. In addition, private property can be damaged bypremature use. Mervyn Bauer, a Brussels-areatrail groomer with the B-W Trailblazers echoed the OPP’s statements, stating that the trails aren’t ready yet. “It’s pretty wet on the bottom of the snow because of all the rain we got a week ago,” Bauer said. He also stated that the volunteers haven’t been out to stake off the trails, but that they should be out by the end of the week. “We’re hoping the trails will beopen by Christmas if the weatherholds up,” he said. “Some of thetrails are marked, but there isn’tenough snow to be groomed yet.” Bauer also stated that there wasn’t a lot of snow covering the ground, and that isn’t ideal. “I know that farmers are happier when there is more coverage,” Bauer stated. Please check the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs for trail conditions prior to heading out. www.ofsc.on.ca Approval has been received for two projects in Grey that would use remaining funds from a previous government budget allocation under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund from the federal and provincial governments. After the repaving of Cranbrook- McNabb Road earlier this year, Huron East had approximately $40,000 left from the funds it was allocated from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund and submitted a subsequent request that would see the remaining money spent on gateposts for bridges. Both of these bridges are in the Grey Ward of Huron East. Crews were on site last week with the first project being completed on Browntown Road in the northeast corner of Grey. The second project is located on Krauter Line just outside of Ethel. The recommendation came from Huron East treasurer Brad Knight several weeks ago, which council approved. Good job!
