Roy Orbison Christmas Tribute comes to Wingham Food blog writer runs Huron County kitchen stories contest From funny to touching, the stories coming in for Huron County’s “Dish Out a Delicious Story” contest are great reads according to Public Health Dietitian, Amy MacDonald. MacDonald is collecting short stories and memories in the online contest. “Everyone has a favourite kitchen tale. There’s still time to enter before the Nov. 30 deadline. I’d love to get lots more Huron County memories.” MacDonald writes a food blog specific for Huron County residents and is running the contest. The blog features local food events and nutrition topics. Stories will be selected to win a $100 gift certificate to any Huron County business that helps you make or eat healthy food. Winning stories will be posted on the “Here On Food” blog at www.hereonfood.ca in December. MacDonald says short submissions are as welcome as long ones. “Send in a few words or a rambling memory – it’s not the writing style that matters, but the story. It’s been wonderful to read about residents of Huron County being in the kitchen!” Send your stories and memories to foodblog@huroncounty.ca by Nov. 30. 4-H Pizza Toppers make dessert pizzas By Ryan Baan The third meeting of the Grey Township 4-H Pizza Toppers was held at Grey Central Public School on Friday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting began with the 4-H pledge. The group then set to work to make two dessert pizzas. The first was a strawberry pizza with a shortbread crust and cream cheese. The other was a Pizza Hut-type dessert pizza with regular pizza dough, raspberry pie filling and glaze. While the pizzas baked, members played a few games of volleyball. After members finished playing, the business part of the meeting was held. The roll call was taken and the question was “what is the strangest ingredient you have ever had on a pizza?” Once the pizzas were baked, everyone had a piece of each kind of pizza, which was served with whipped cream. That was delicious! The meeting then ended at about 8:30 p.m. The Grey Township 4-H Club started a new project all about pizza and the first meeting was held on Friday, October 22 at Grey Central Public School. After playing a few games, members elected the officers for this club. Elections were held and Nick Vinnicombe is the president; Kelsey Rathwell, vice-president; Chelsey Terpstra, secretary; Johanna Blake, treasurer and Ryan Baan, press reporter. The group’s leaders are Monique Baan, Tracey Swart and Barb Terpstra. Members baked, taste-tested and judged four different kinds of pizza. They were delicious! Then, leader Barb Terpstra gave a demonstration of how to make pizza dough. The meeting closed with the 4-H motto. On Saturday, October 30, the Grey Township 4-H Club held its second meeting at the home of Monique Baan. Nick opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge. This time around, members decided on a name for the club and chose to be called the Grey Township 4-H Pizza Toppers. Members were asked to make pizza dough at home. With the dough, each member made a Chicago-style pizza. After the dough was rolled and shaped, members added sliced mozzarella cheese, toppings (onions, mushrooms, pepper, sausage), and then the tomato sauce was added on top. While the pizzas baked, they discussed the club business. A thank-you card has been sent to the Walton Women’s Institute for their recent donation to the club. The next meeting is set for Nov. 12, at Grey Central Public School. Then members ate their personal pizzas, they were all different sizes and shapes, but equally tasty. In addition to main stage offerings, for the first time in Blyth Festival history, the Young Company will be promoted to the main stage with a revival of the musical hit Alligator Tears by Britta Johnson, directed by Rebecca Picherack. Anyone who saw it in the Phillips Studio earlier this year knows that this show has enormous potential. Finally, the Festival will be presenting a very exciting Studio Series in the Phillips Studio Aug. 23 to Sept. 4, 2011. The Studio Series is a new initiative that will introduce our audience in Southwestern Ontario to two productions from 2010 Summer Works, an indie theatre and arts festival held annually in Toronto.
