THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2010.Blyth Grade 8 students participate in Tech DayContinued from page 3the sky. Both Kindergarten classes startedlearning the Christmas concert songsand dance number planned for thisDecember. This practicing wasoodles of fun although they learnedthat they really have to pay attentionand concentrate when dancing orthey’ll get all mixed up.
Both groups also spent some time
actively working with and using the
number three – which can be a tricky
number to both print and categorize.
The senior kindergarten class began
a large unit of study on fairytales by
activating their collective schema
and brainstorming an entire bulletin
board full of files containing ideas
about what they know and what
they’ll be looking for in the fairy-
tales they read as part of their study.
They hope to make many text-to-text
and text-to-self connections as theycompare and contrast various folk-lore centering around the theme ofresponsibility. They also made agood start at learning some of thesounds the letter A makes. In Mrs. Armstrong’s class lastweek, the students finished theirenvironment unit in science with atest and are starting their matter and
material unit. In art the students have
also completed their gourd work,
which has been put up in the hall for
other students to see. The first piece
was a contour drawing painted in
water colours and the second was a
best realistic attempt painted with
tempura paints.
The Grade 7/8 class has continued
to work on with their writing. The
students first rewrote the definitions
for narrative and descriptive
pieces using student-friendly lan-
guage. Then the class started writinga piece of their choice which shouldtake up to two weeks to write, reviseand polish. In math, students aremultiplying and dividing decimalsand percentages and getting readyfor a unit test. The Grade 8 studentswill also be journeying to CentralHuron Secondary School for a spe-cial Tech Day on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
Nov. 22, the Grade 7 and 8 students
will be participating in a
mental health survey for York
University.
Upcoming events are that the
entire school will be visiting the
local Huron County Library to check
out the resources available to them.
Students who do not have a library
card are encouraged (but not
required) to fill out the application
form.
And BPS is happy to announce
that 18 new kindergarten studentshave been registered for the fall of2011. If you have not registered, butstill want to, please contact theschool.Grade 2/3 students have beenreading and discussing the book“Somewhere Today … A bookAbout Peace”. They have ben discussing the “Big” ideas in the
text, specifically thinking about
and helping others not just them-
selves, and applying these ideas
to their own lives. Then they dis-
cussed and wrote about ways inwhich they could make a differenceand make the school, communityand world a better place. Also, to goalong with National BullyingPrevention Week, the Grade 2 and 3students have been examining vari-ous types of bullying that take placeat school and strategies to deal withbullying. The Grade 2/3 class is
working on creating
its own skits based on these situa-
tions and how they could be
resolved.

PLAN NUMBER 2-3-740 CONTEMPORARY LAYOUT
This handsome two-storey home, available with plans for a finished suite on the ground floor, would be ideal for a young family seek-
ing an easy-living, contemporary lay-out, as well providing in-law accommodation or help with the mortgage in the form of a rentable apart-
ment.
At the heart of this home, on the main floor, is the open-plan great room, dining area and kitchen. The great room features extra-large
windows overlooking the front garden, as well as a gas fireplace.
The dining area and kitchen enjoy access to a spacious sundeck. The kitchen is separated from the dining area by a four-seat island
bar, and both rooms will be bright with natural light, thanks to plenty of windows. The kitchen window, over the sink, boasts an extra-wide
sill, perfect for displaying plants and collectibles.
The master bedroom, located at the back of the home for privacy, includes a walk-in closet as well as an ensuite with a soaker tub and
glass-walled shower. The laundry room is conveniently situated nearby, across from the three-piece bathroom shared by the two sec-
ondary bedrooms. Closets for linen and cleaning appliances complete the lay-out.
On the ground floor, entry to the home is sheltered by a covered porch. From the foyer, a stairway to the right leads up to the main
floor. To the left is a spacious den, ideally located for a home office.
At the back of the home, a three-piece bathroom has been roughed in, as well as space for two future bedrooms. The recreation room,
with a roughed-in wet bar, features access to a covered patio. This room could become a kitchen-dining area, should the need arise.
In the double garage, there is plenty of room for a workbench and storage for gardening tools.
The home’s exterior finishes include shingles in the gables, partly mullioned windows with painted trim, and barn-style garage doors,
together with horizontal siding and stone accents.
This home measures 40 feet wide and 45 feet deep, for a total of 1,368 square feet on the main floor, which features nine-foot ceilings
throughout.
