This practicing wasoodles of fun although they learnedthat they really have to pay attentionand concentrate when dancing orthey’ll get all mixed up. Both groups also spent some time actively working with and using the number three – which can be a tricky number to both print and categorize. The senior kindergarten class began a large unit of study on fairytales by activating their collective schema and brainstorming an entire bulletin board full of files containing ideas about what they know and what they’ll be looking for in the fairy- tales they read as part of their study. They hope to make many text-to-text and text-to-self connections as theycompare and contrast various folk-lore centering around the theme ofresponsibility. They also made agood start at learning some of thesounds the letter A makes. In Mrs. Armstrong’s class lastweek, the students finished theirenvironment unit in science with atest and are starting their matter and material unit. In art the students have also completed their gourd work, which has been put up in the hall for other students to see. The first piece was a contour drawing painted in water colours and the second was a best realistic attempt painted with tempura paints. The Grade 7/8 class has continued to work on with their writing. The students first rewrote the definitions for narrative and descriptive pieces using student-friendly lan- guage. Then the class started writinga piece of their choice which shouldtake up to two weeks to write, reviseand polish. In math, students aremultiplying and dividing decimalsand percentages and getting readyfor a unit test. The Grade 8 studentswill also be journeying to CentralHuron Secondary School for a spe-cial Tech Day on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Nov. 22, the Grade 7 and 8 students will be participating in a mental health survey for York University.
