The unit was placed at Meneset Park’s Community Centre. The park is the home of Mounsey’s parents. Mounsey, a Blyth resident who was a member of the previous Blyth Fire Department and a member of the Ontario Provincial Police died as the result of an on-duty car crash in the fall of 2006. Friends and family created the David Mounsey Memorial Fund (DMMF) to give back to the community he worked in and loved in his memory. Shortly before his death, Mounsey and his life-partner OPP Const. Brenda Carey ran a marathon in Victoria, B.C., to raise funds for a defibrillator for the fire department. The DMMF places defibrillators in memory of Mounsey because of this effort. Meneset Park, north of Goderich, is the seventh location that a defibrillator has been installed. The first was Blyth’s Memorial Hall in 2009. This defibrillator’s placement was made possible through cost-sharing with Crimestoppers, who covered approximately half the cost according to DMMF member Paul Josling. Each defibrillator is donated in memory of a police officer, paramedic, firefighter or Military Police Officer who has died in the line of duty. This will be the second one donated by the DMMF in Dave Mounsey’s memory. By Denny Scott The Citizen In memory of Dave The Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund, in co-operation with Crimestoppers, donated a defibrillator to Meneset Park, just north of Goderich. Don Armstrong of Crimestoppers (left), Dave’s life partner Brenda Carey (second from left), fund founder Patrick Armstrong (right) made the donation on Nov. 20. Mounsey’s parents, Colin and Shirley Stanway, who live at the Park, accepted the donation on behalf of the park.
