The Thursday night darts were held but no results are available at this time. The Friday night supper of pork schnitzel, prepared by Sandra Josling was enjoyed by a good crowd. This week will be sweet and sour meatballs and rice. Donations to the food bank have been good. We will be collecting food every week. The Branch had two teams of four participate in Zone Cribbage last week. Team Eric Ross, Cam Ross, Elaine Nichol and John Harrison qualified to advance to District competition. Team Jim Alton, Dianne Machan, Glenn Bridge and Norm Dobson had a good day, but will not advance. The bus trip to Brantford Casino had only 21 folks take advantage of the ride. Reports are they had a good day. Thanks to Comrade Wanda Walker for organizing the day away. Saturday was Huron County darts at the Branch and the 56 men in attendance had a good day. Comrades Andy Overholt, Deb Ross and Jo-Ann McDonald helped for the day. The fish fry crew was pleased to serve up fish for the Mutual Aid gathering of firefighters at the Ethel Hall on Monday evening. There were arond 50 members of various fire departments including Seaforth, Brussels, Grey and others. The fish fry crew did the final fish of the year for the Seaforth Curling Club on Sunday afternoon. Early bird helpers at the Branch were Deb Cann and Sandra Josling and Gord Jacklin. Travelling to Seaforth were George Adams, Rick, Jo-Ann and Scott McDonald and Jason Konarski. It was a chilly day but the job was accomplished for the near- 150 folks. The fryers can now be put away for the winter and the fish fry crew can rest up until next year. The Branch did 20 fish fry events this year and it is considered a major fundraiser for the Branch. Members will be looking for more Comrades to help with fish fry events next year, so hopefully you can help out. Our hopes for a quick recovery go out to Padre Sandra Cable who has suffered a concussion after falling on the ice at the arena. The month of November is sliding by and it is the last month to pay your dues and be an early bird. The price goes up on Dec. 1 so get in and get your dues paid. ONNIE SALLOWS 56 King Street, Brussels 519-887-6661 Great Gift Idea! Men’s Footcare ~ includes nail clipping, callous removal, and massage Helps tired achy feet. Seniors like it too! Aesthetician & Electrologist Brussels Lions will be collecting eyeglasses during the Santa Claus Parade November 27 Lions will be wearing a Lions’ vest Santa Claus is coming to town, keep humming, he’s on the way. He’s to arrive in time for the 5 p.m. parade this Saturday. So dig out the long underwear, skates and get the Christmas lights strung out to show you’re in the mood. For the young at heart, the parade is the official time for thinking of Christmas. Up until then, all the songs and lights are just not quite right – red and green with Halloween doesn’t sit well. So after Saturday, the season has begun. We did a warranty check on Sloan in Barrie on Saturday. It’s the 78- day mark for him using oxygen and the grandparents needed another test run. He passed with flying colours, he has his parents, Curt and Julie, looking tired and his sister quite pleased with her world, so he’s a keeper. He’s just starting to smile spontaneously, so definitely a keeper. We live in a generous community, helping, supporting and giving to various causes, concerns and groups as the needs arise. We have empathy for those less fortunate and try our best to help. With the conviction of the pretend cancer victim lately and numerous pretty envelopes, some with label stickers arriving in the mail, I’m getting cross. Why is good money being wasted from their “worthy” cause and how much of that donation is getting to the core of their concern. Perhaps it’s time we are told outright the percentage used for promotion and administration of their cause. One Iknow of found that only $28 ofevery $100 gets to the reason whyyou gave. Not so generous. Check itout and send your money to the bestplace and be as generous as you can.Two dates to mark now – Dec.12 – the community choirs areraising the rafters with song at thePresbyterian Church. If you didn’t get all your favourite Carols sung, join the community on Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. at the United Church and Glenda will have you sung out by 8 p.m. You’ll enjoy these nights of music of the season. As you make plans for all the festivities of the next month, be good to yourself and enjoy this blessed time. Bye now, Betty G.W. When you need to get the job done ~ Call us! CONSTRUCTION LTD.
