Here we are in the middle of
November. Life is moving on all
around us. Some days it’s tricky to
just figure out where we’re really
supposed to be and of course when.
The important things always seemed
to get done, even if not in the way
expected. That’s a good chance to
practise your acceptance of life and
move on.
The high school set are making
plans for March break and various
opportunities to see the world that fit
into their area of interest and
lessons. Fundraising and awareness
of the world are part of this learning
as they grow.
Soup and More 2, under the
guidance of Elaine Armstrong, is
going very well. Great homemade
soup of interesting varieties are
offered each Friday and the
opportunity to eat or volunteer with
a new group of people is always a
good thing. Try it.
The reality of our economy hits
hard when we really listen to the
statistics of our North Huron Food
Share. It’s one of the organizations
that truly sees the vulnerable in
our society. We are offered lots
of opportunities to share. The
board of Food Share is in a
tough spot, they need our help
now. Donations are not keeping
up with the need. From their
clients, they hear of jobs lost, hours
cut, wages low and many other
stories, each very personal and
sad.
In our area, where good food is
produced, we each need to help get
it to those in need. Sometimes we
have to really look to see who in our
community is in need of help and
often those who are hungriest will
not let it be known. That’s why our
support of the Food Share is needed
as an ongoing practice. Life
circumstances change, our bank
account falls and we too could need
help.
The traffic at the Community
Centre is high, broomball, curling,
celebrations, meetings and hockey
have all made for a busy spot this
past week.
Colds and coughs are all about. Be
sure to wash your hands at all the
important times and not help spread
the bugs.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
By Jo-Ann McDonald
It was a beautiful day for
Remembrance Day and there was a
very good attendance for the
ceremony. There were nearly 200
participating and watching the
ceremony lead by President
Comrade John Lowe and Padre
Sandra Cable.
Following the service at the
Cenotaph, the parade, led by the
Brussels Pipe Band, went to the
Brussels United Church for a
service conducted by Padre Cable.
Parading back to the Branch, over
100 people enjoyed a soup and
sandwich lunch. Thank you to all
who took time out of their day to
observe and pay respect to the
memory of the many souls of the
lost Canadian soldiers and to those
surviving veterans in our midst. The
Act of Remembrance repeats the
line “We will remember them, We
will Remember them”, and by the
show of support in attendance, it
can only mean that the residents of
Brussels will continue to remember
and support the tradition of
Remembrance Day.
A surprise special presentation
was made to myself, Jo-Ann
McDonald, during the lunch at the
Branch. Comrade President John
Lowe called me forward to make
the presentation. Every year, I make
a scrapbook about the Branch
activities during the year. The
scrapbook is submitted for judging

Students from Brussels Public School walked down to the Legion and Cenotaph last Thursday
for the village’s Remembrance Day ceremony. Wreaths were placed and then students from
the school were called up to place their poppies upon the wreaths. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
