Last week I spent a few
days with my sister. Taking in
a movie together has become
a tradition for us during these
little holidays but this time
nothing seemed to jump off
the listing as something we
should see. So we googled afew titles and decided tocheck out “Unstoppable”.Boy! Did we luck out! And
not just because of the
male lead, Denzel
Washington.
This is a movie you might
want to check out, no
violence, no sexual innuendos
and no foul language. The
plot is simple and fairly
predictable. However, I
guarantee you will be on the
edge of your seat for most of
the flick.
It seemed to us we wereonly in the theatre for 10minutes rather than the actualhour and a half plus.
For Native Americans and
trappers, November is the
time to set beaver traps before
the swamps freeze in order to
ensure a supply of pelts.
Moreover, beavers are now
actively preparing for
winter.
So the full moon this
month, which happens on
Sunday, Nov. 21 is called the
Beaver Moon. It has also been
referred to as the FrostyMoon.Relatives and friends ofNeil and Paula (Allen)
Beauchamp joined regular
congregants at
Londesborough United
Church on Sunday, Nov. 14.
Everyone witnessed the
baptism of Ryan Jeffery Allen
Beauchamp. It was an
important day in this young
boy’s life and the first step on
his faith journey.
Londesborough United’s
senior choir will gather for
practice on Sunday, Nov. 21prior to the service.Mark Sunday, Dec. 5 onyour calendar so you are on
hand for the White Gift
Service presented by the
Sunday School. A potluck
lunch will follow that
service.
The Londesborough UCW
Christmas Meeting will be
held the next evening, Dec. 6
beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Donations for the Women’s
Shelter will be accepted at
that gathering.

Clinton, Brussels builds next for Habitat Huron County
While Habitat for
Humanity Huron County
(HFH HC), has just finished
its sixth build in Seaforth, it’s
now working on its seventh
build in Clinton and planning
for an eighth build, which will
be in Brussels.
A lot has been acquired in
Clinton at 196B Dunlop
Street. The home will be built
in the spring, but drainage
work has already begun in
anticipation of an early start
in 2011. In addition to the
build in Clinton, the
organization plans to build in
Brussels as well. An
information night is planned
for November.
Work on the Clinton lot
began as two catch basins and
drainage lines were installed
to direct surface water
underground to the storm
sewer. Area suppliers and
businesses continue to
support Habitat. Ideal Pipe
supplied the large diameter
drainage pipe for the project.
Armtec/Bruce Tile is
providing the smaller
diameter field tile for the
foundation drainage system
and the balance of the lot
drainage requirements. Dale
Pump Service provided the
backhoe and labour to install
the drainage pipe and catch
basins. Merner Contracting
Ltd. provided the crushed
stone, and B.M. Ross and
Associates Ltd. from
Goderich provided the
engineering and design of the
project. This is just one
example of how area
suppliers continue to be key
components of Habitat’s
success in Huron County.
In an interview, Kevin
Morrison, Executive Director
stated, “It never ceases to
amaze me when it comes to
the support of so many
throughout Huron County.”
Habitat is always in need of
additional volunteers at both
build sites and at the
committee level. Anyone who
is interested in volunteering
can call 519-612-1612 or
people can e-mail us by
visiting our website at

The Family Selection
Committee hopes that all
eligible families apply. To be
eligible for a Habitat home, a
family must demonstrate need
for better housing and live in
a current housing situation
that is not adequate. Further,
partner families must have a
steady income that is enough
to cover the costs of an
interest-free Habitat
mortgage, as well as the
ability to pay for household
bills and maintenance once
the house is occupied.
Prospective Habitat families
must be willing to partner to
HFH HC by investing
volunteer hours with the
organization. Anyone who is
interested and who believes
their family may qualify can
contact Morrison at the
number above or on the
website. A formal application
is then made through the
Family Selection Committee.
Habitat for Humanity is a
non-profit, independent
housing program made up of
local affiliates that are locally
managed. Habitat for
Humanity Huron County is
operated by volunteers. A
Trillium grant has assisted the
organization and there are
now some paid staff,
including Morrison. Habitat
provides a “hand up, not a
hand out” by selling homes to
qualified families through
“sweat equity,” no profit
builds and no interest
mortgages. Each local
affiliate must meet the strict
guidelines of Habitat for
Humanity Canada. Started in
1976 in the United States,
Habitat for Humanity now
enjoys success in 87 countries
around the globe. Habitat
came to Canada in 1985 and
thus far has built over 2,000
homes.
