The Blyth/Brussels Atom Girls
have one tie and two wins to their
credit so far for the 2010-11 season.
On Saturday, Nov. 13, the teams
hosted Durham. The team played a
strong offensive game, netting eight
goals.
Scoring started up with a goal
from Sarah Mitchell, assisted by
Morgan Willie. Centre Mitchell
would find the net again in the first
with an unassisted goal. The girls
added three more goals in the second
period.
Goal credits went to Dana
Dolmage, Willie, and Alexandra
(Bobbie) Martin. Each goal had a
single assist from Mitchell, Sarah
Strome and Willie, putting the Dogs
in the lead 5-0.
Durham found their way through
defense to score their first goal. The
team continued a strong attack on
the visitors with three more goals
scored in the third period.
Brookelyn Johnston proved she
could hold her own, scoring two of
the three goals unassisted.
The third period also saw Durham
take advantage of Blyth/Brussels’
offensive strategy and they managed
to net three goals as well in the third.
Scoring continued until the end of
the game. With :01 on the clock,
defenseman Martin scored her
second goal of the game with an
assist by Willie.
Blyth/Brussels won by a final
score of 8-4.
The team’s home opener took
place Saturday, Nov. 6, with a visit
from Normanby. The girls started
the scoring in the first period with an
unassisted goal from Strome.
The lead would be short-lived as
Normanby tied it up 21 seconds
later. In the second period the team
took the lead again with a goal by
Alicia Ireland, assisted by Willie and
Strome. Mitchell netted an
unassisted goal in the third period
and solid goaltending by Clarrisa
Gordon secured the win.
Blyth/Brussels finished the game
to win by a score of 3-1.
On Friday, Nov. 5, the girls
travelled to Saugeen Shores for their
first game of the season. Both teams
played solid games. Saugeen scored
first with 1:33 left in the first period.
The second period would see no
goals scored, with Julia Beaven
between the pipes. The first goal of
the season for the team was scored
four minutes into the third period.
Second-year Atom, Strome carried
the puck for an awesome unassisted
goal to tie the game at 1-1.
Saugeen snuck one more in with
2:33 left in the third.
The girls continued a strong
offensive game, bringing the goalie
in to add an extra attacker. With 44
seconds left in the third, Sarah
Mitchell netted the tying goal with
an assist from Ireland.
The game, however, ended in a 2-
2 tie.

goals to lead the Saugeen Maitland
Midget AA Lightning to three out of
four points in Lower Lakes League
action. Landman scored the only
goal of the game on a clever passing
play with Brooklyn Irwin to give

Devilettes. Goaltender Emily Kelly
of Port Elgin picked up the shutout,
her third in two weeks.
On Sunday, Nov. 14, the Lightning
hosted the Bluewater Hawks in a
match pitting the first and second-
place teams. Scoreless through two
periods, the Hawks scored midway
through the third period. In the final
minute of the game, with the goalie
pulled for the extra attacker,

equalizer on a setup from Hannah
Davidson and Irwin to tie it 1-1.
