Sadly, while many were out trickor treating, a family close to thevillage was receiving tragic news.Twenty-year-old RomanSturzenegger died as a result of acollision on London Road on Sundayevening. Roman’s parents, Hans andTrudy, along with his brother andsisters received condolences at theBlyth Visitation Centre of the Falconer Funeral Home last Wednesday and a celebration of life took place at Blyth United Church on Thursday. Members replied with cropping, layouts, scrapbooking on a budget and more. Eileen then talked about the history of scrapbooking, which started in 1598 where the upper class would paste poems, quotes, newspaper clippings or product labels into plain paper books. Next Cathy Drennan talked about the importance of judging, which improves confidence and helps with decision making. The club went over the do’s and don’ts of judging. Marita Oudshoorn explained that the members would be judging scrapbook pages and the criteria for a good scrapbook page. The members then made their decisions about the scrapbook page. Four members, Melissa Higgins, Laura Nauwelaerts, Jolanda Oudshoorn and Reba read their opinions aloud. The club had similar opinions on the page. Marita then shared the correct results, like a judging competition. Members then read about photo and scrapbook storage. (Photo submitted) ACW citizens to host landfill information meeting Shortly after councillors from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township Council approved an application for a Certificate of Approval including an expanded waste footprint, residents near the Ashfield landfill site are hosting an information meeting regarding the decision. On Nov. 24 in Dungannon, citizens who live near the landfill site will be inviting representatives from Simcoe County who recently were able to prevent North Simcoe from using Site 41 as a new landfill site. Jack Culbert, one of the citizens in the group, hopes that the information meeting will help council change their mind. “We have to put our money towards reducing garbage, not preparing to house more,” he said. Culbert has attended previous meetings where council has run the proceedings and feels that the concerns of the citizens weren’t addressed. “This will not be a public meeting of council, it will be run by the people to present our concerns and ideas,” he said. “We will be inviting all councillors personally though.” The meeting will be held at the Dungannon Hall at 7 p.m. A great start The Auburn Lions held a breakfast on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to help raise money for the Huron County Christmas Bureau. Dishing out the goods were Kim Teed and Tony Martens. (Vicky Bremner photo)
