The fields are being cleared and I have only seen corn still out on my travels. Many farmers are plowing and some are spreading manure as well. Those farmers who are finished are busy washing up their equipment and getting it put away for the winter. Most farmers have storage areas for the equipment and a certain order to which it will fit in the sheds. There can be no complaints this year on what a great fall we have had for harvest, yields and even crop prices. It is lunchtime on Monday as I amwriting and while out earlier in themorning, I only saw one group ofhunters. There has been onesuccessful hunter, as I did see a deer carcass hanging from a tree before 8:30 a.m. Our own bunch which includes Rick and Scott and the Brodhagen-area men had at least two deer before lunch. I heard plenty of shots in our bush during lunch, so they maybe had more. There will still be a few days left for hunting after the paper comes out, so keep watch for hunters and running deer. Congratulations to Brad and Cindy Pryce on the birth of a daughter. The Pryces have been blessed with the arrival of Naomi. Naomi is another granddaughter for Brian and Sharon Pryce to make 11 grandchildren. Our get-well wishes go out to Shirley Leake and Edna Pearson who are both patients in Wingham Hospital. Congratulations to all the successful candidates who will be serving on our area municipalcouncils. It was a very interestingelection with good attendance atmany of the candidates meetings. There are many changes on our areacouncils and we thank all those who have served our area for their time, interest and their years of service and wish the new council members all the best in their future learning experiences. Walton area can be proud of having both a former Walton resident and a current Walton resident running for the position of deputy-mayor of Huron East. We congratulate Joe Steffler on his success and we congratulate Chris Lee for making it a close race. Enjoying a five-day holiday in Vancouver were Murray, Sherry and Mary McCall. They went with John and Marci, Alivia and Indre McCall MacBain to their home in Vancouver. They enjoyed a quiet time together mostly with just a couple of extra activities. Murray had the chance to do some flying around the Vancouver area and some of them went to a VancouverCanucks hockey game. It was a goodnight because Vancouver defeatedthe Colorado Avalanche 3-2. Theyreturned and report having a greatvisit with John and Marci and especially with the two little girls. A tragic vehicle accident claimed the life of a long-time Brussels resident, Henry Exel on the weekend. His wife Margaret remains in a London Hospital in serious condition. Our condolences are expressed to the family of Henry and Margaret at this time and our prayers are with Margaret. Henry was well-known carpenter in the Brussels area and was enjoying his retirement. He was a long-standing member of the Brussels Lions Club and was a quiet, family man. The Walton Inn welcomes a new face in Lisa Kiel as waitress. She is coming along nicely and learning the ropes from the experienced veteran Betty Riley. We hope Cathy McClure is coming along as she copes with some tendonitis problems. Halloween has come and gone and we had about a dozen trick or treaters at our home. We had a pretty princess, a walking (and unravelling) mummy, a little monkey, race car driver, a tiny fairy and some other pretty cute costumes. All of our little tricksters were polite and eager to move on to their next stop. Celebrating birthdays to finish up October were Brent Alexander, MacKenzie McGavin, Janine Knight and Davis Steffler. November kicks off with Judy Lee, Marvin Bachert, Stephen Burke, John Gaunt, Peggy Humphries, Garret Mader, Johnny Ryan, Bruce Blake, Connie Coutts and Darryl Hoegy. Happy Birthday to everyone.
