The Auburn Knox United Church was closed this past Sunday and members from near and far travelled to Londesborough for service and lunch. Performances were provided by current and former members in a mass choir of approximately 60 as well as the Snell Family Singers.The Auburn Knox United Churchwill be holding its variety concert“An Evening with Friends” this Saturday, Oct. 30 beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Harbouraires Men’s Choir from the Goderich area will perform, Marshall and Ethan Durnin will play their violins, and musical entertainment will be provided by Minister Terry Fletcher and his wife, Mary. The Playground Committee has been working very hard to raise money to revitalize the park. President Erma Cartwright welcomed everyone and opened the meeting with the Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and “O’ Canada”. Following this, she read quotations of “Years Past” from articles of a camp club member. Minutes of the September meeting were read and approved. The treasurer reported a good balance on hand. All members responded to the roll call, “Why rural women need a day away”. Very interesting replies were given. President Erma briefly reported on the Oct. 4 Fall Rally with five attending and London Area Convention on Oct. 14 with nine in attendance. The playground committee has been working very hard raising money for new equipment as the old is not safe. A motion was passed to give a donation to Sandra Popp to help to replace small items lost in the house fire. This was a “Mystery Meeting Program” arranged by Tena Empey. (No one had a clue). She introduced Elaine Armstrong from the Brussels area. She gave a detailed account of involving the whole community to support this weekly free lunch called “Soup and More” held at Melville Presbyterian Church in Brussels from 11:30 a.m. to 1p.m. each Friday. All food is prepared on site for approximately 30 meals each week. This requires many volunteers for this great project to continue each and every week. Everyone enjoyed this very interesting presentation. A delicious lunch of fruit bread, cheese and Tena’s birthday cake was served by hostess Teresa Roetcisoender, and Phyllis Durst.
