The Wingham Ironmen split the
weekend home-and-home series
with the Kincardine Bulldogs in
Western Junior C Hockey League
play on the weekend.
And, the home ice was a
disadvantage.
After scoring a 5-3 decision in
Kincardine on Friday evening, the
Ironmen fell 3-2 to the Bulldogs on
Saturday evening at the North Huron
Wescast Community Complex in
Wingham.
Tyler Kellum paced the Ironmen
victory on Friday evening, with a
three-goal performance.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring
on Saturday as Brock Spencer tallied
a power play marker at 11:45 of the
first period. The Ironmen were
playing two men short at the time.
Graham Ashcroft tied the game at
one at 1:43 of the second period.
Kincardine took a two-goal lead
later in the period on goals by Alex
LeGrand at 13:18 and Haden
Campbell at 17:42.
Cory MacDonald got the Ironmen
to within one at 12:08 of the third
period on a beautiful set-up by Wade
Stephenson.
The Ironmen pulled netminder
Brandon MacDonald with just over
a minute remaining in the period, but
were unable to net the equalizer.
Wingham outshot the Bulldogs 46-
38.
Following the game, defenceman
Chase Chapman of Brussels said it
was a fast-paced game.
“It was a big game after Friday’s
very intense game,” he said “We
were still able to put out.”
Chapman said the Kincardine
goaltender, Gaitlin Burt, played
better Saturday in Wingham than he
did Friday in Kincardine.
“We were getting shots on him in
the game,” he said, “He was standing
on his head,”
The defenceman, who plays on the
power play, said the power play was
not too strong in the game on
Saturday.
Coach Chad Haggitt of Blyth said
he was disappointed in the loss on
Saturday. “I wanted all four points,”
he said. “I’m getting fairly greedy.”
The coach said they may have
been missing the intensity that they
had on Friday. He said the power
play was not very effective, but
