CARDIFF (Pete). In loving memory
of a dear father and grandfather who
passed away September 28, 1974.
One precious to our hearts has gone,
The voice we loved is stilled,
The place made vacant in our home,
Can never more be filled.
Our father in His wisdom called,
The one his love had given,
And so on earth the body lays,
His soul is safe in heaven.
– Always loved and remembered by
Fran, grandchildren and Marie.

VANDERMEER. In memory of Ian
VanderMeer.
We Thought of You Today
We thought of you today,
But that is nothing new,
We thought of you yesterday,
And will tomorrow, too.
We think of you in silence,
And make no outward show,
For what it meant to lose you,
Only those who love you know.
Remembering you is easy,
We do it every day,
It’s the heartache of losing you,
That will never go away.
We miss you and love you lots!
– Love always, Mom, Dad, Tyler,
Julia and Ella. 39-1

WHEELER. In loving memory of a
dear husband, father and grandpa,
Robert Wheeler, who passed away
October 12, 2000.
A family has a special bond,
It’s love that forms the tie,
And even in the darkest hour,
That love will never die.
We cannot bring the old days back,
When we were all together,
But in our hearts and memories,
You will live with us forever.
– Always loved and remembered by
Isabelle, Brian, Suzanne, Wayne,
Julie, Bryce, Chad, Ashley and

The Majestic Women’s Institute of
Brussels held its first meeting after
the summer break on Sept. 8.
Thirteen members and one guest met
at the Brussels Library.
President Lucy Hesse welcomed
everyone back with a reading. After
the Institute Ode, Mary Stewart
Collect and regular business the
guest speaker Jean Fraser, spoke on
the history of Associated Country
Women of the World (ACWW)
started in 1927. Women’s Institutes
is comprised of the local level,
regional level, provincial level,
country level and the international
level.
Jean has had the good fortune to
attend many institute conferences
over the years. The last ACWW
conference was in Hot Springs,
Arkansas. Jean has seen a lot of
places and met great people through
her years as a proud institute
member.
The ACWW fundraiser is used is
used to raise funds for “The Water
for All” program through Coins of
Friendship which is dedicated to
providing clean water supply to poor
communities worldwide.
UFO (unfinished objects) was held
Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. at Brussels
Library. Ten people attended.
Next get-together is Tuesday, Oct.
12 at 10 a.m. in the Brussels Library
basement. The next Institute meeting

Huron-Perth District WI
holds fall director’s meeting
Majestic WI holds fall meeting
Euchre in Cranbrook
By Margaret E. McMahon
The Huron Perth District Women’s
Institute held its fall District
Director’s meeting in the Donegal
United Church on Sept. 13. The
meeting was hosted by the Donegal
Women’s Institute.
President Marg Greig welcomed
everyone and thanked all branches
for having a representative present.
The roll call was to have everyone
introduce themselves and state their
objectives for Women’s Institute.
Members said they need to keep
learning, to live by the Mary Stewart
Collect, visit other branches,
promote healthier foods; continue
with the ROSE sessions; advocate
for home and country changes. Marg
read the objectives stated by New
Zealand which said: to inspire and
encourage women within a dynamic
and caring organization. The U.K.
objectives were: providing women
with educational opportunities and
the chance to build new skills and to
take part in a wide variety of
activities and campaign on issues
that matter to them and their
communities. Everyone thought
these were food for thought.
The provincial conference held in
June was deemed a success and both
the Guelph Area and provincial
board will be receiving a share of the
profits. Darlene Harding reported the
sales tables were quite busy and that
the articles Huron-Perth had made
were well received. Any articles not
sold will be offered at the 2011
District Annual.
As a representative on the Country
Heritage Park committee for the
District, Darlene is finding it difficult
to get helpers for the weekends in
July and August. She asked that the
membership consider if they wish to
continue helping with the weekends
or not and report back to the January
meeting.
Margaret E. McMahon gave the
highlights from the August board
meeting with the following
information: there are now 4,900
members in Ontario. A new feature
in the “Home and Country” is a
branch profile which will be chosen
by the Board Director of the region.
The Provincial Membership co-
ordinator would like each member to
get one new member each year and
in five years the organization would
increase in numbers. The FWIC
triennial project is “women’s heart
health” and members are encouraged
to host a ROSE session on this issue.
The Huron County Rally is Oct. 4
at the Gorrie United Church at 9:30
am. Host branches were reminded to
bring their fall centrepieces. The
Guelph area convention is on Oct. 13
at the New Dundee Bethel
Evangelical Missionary Church 10
a.m. Eleanor Elg is looking after the
$50 gift for the convention sales
table.
The Perth County Rally is
scheduled for Oct. 20 at the Atwood
United Church and everyone
attending is to bring an apron.
The Ladies Night Out on Nov. 4
was discussed and tickets are
available from the Branches.
The ACWW Church service is
slated for April 17 at 9:30 a.m. at the
Brussels Mennonite Church hosted
by Majestic and Walton branches.
The Howick branch, with assist-
ance from Lakelet, will host the Jan.
17, 2011 District Director’s meeting.
