Terry Fox Run
For two decades, Blyth Public School has been
participating in the Terry Fox Run. The school raised more
than $900 this year for the fundraiser, which raises
awareness as well as funds to fight cancer. Shown is

This week in Mrs. Middleton’s class,
students have been developing
soccer skills in gym. They have also
been emphasizing good
sportsmanship and using proper
safety measures. In math they have
been reviewing single-digit division
and multiplication.
In the school library, students have
recently received a computer
program that allows users to make
voice calls and videos between
computers. This program is called
Skype. At Blyth Public School we
have used Skype on the netbooks,
because they can connect to the
internet wirelessly and have a
built-in microphone and cameras.
Last week, students used Skype
between Mr. Brown in the library
on one netbook and Mrs. Armstrong
and her class on another netbook
in her classroom. This classroom
netbook was hooked up to
the projector to put Mr.
Brown’s video image up on the
Smartboard.
The kids were very interested to
see this technology at work and Mrs.
Brown was able to explain how it
could be used. Many people use
Skype to talk to friends and relatives
that are far away because it’s a great
way to stay in touch and it’s also
free.
Junior and senior soccer
tournaments were held in Clinton
last Wednesday. The junior girls and
boys tied one, lost two and won one.
The senior boys lost three and won
one. But the senior girls lost one and
won three and they won the
tournament.
More exciting butterfly news from
the Grade 1/2 class. “Science is
Happening Here!” Over the
weekend, two Monarch Butterflies
emerged from their chrysalis. By
Monday, their wings were dried and
they seemed ready to fly. The class
released them outdoors on Monday
morning and they sat on a shrub for
some time and then flew up high to
the trees. This was a spectacular
sight! Students learned that these
butterflies will come back here after
In 2004, while organizing theSunday School room, the
superintendents Judy Gleave and
Lorna Fraser found a box which said
to open in 2010. It was dated 1960
and signed by Mr. Fred Howson.
The box was set aside until 2009
when Lorna brought it to the
attention of the minister Gary Clark.
The Sunday School decided to hold
a special service this October to
celebrate 50 years of Sunday school
in the church.
Plans to open the box began.
Gearing the children and adults up,
the Sunday School has hostedlunches to help offset expenses of
the event. Invitations will be sent to
all who joined the church from the
1970s, hoping in turn to contact the
1960 Sunday School class.
The 2010 Sunday School plans to
put together a new time capsule to be
opened in another 50 years.
Following the Oct. 24 special
Sunday service, the Sunday school
will host a lunch.
This original box was put together
by the 1960 Sunday school classes
when the new building was built.

The workings of grace in the heart
(by J.C. Ryle)
“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it
comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:8
The workings of grace in the heart are utterly mysterious and unsearchable.
We cannot explain why the Word produces effects on one person in a congregation, and
not upon another.
We cannot explain why, in some cases; with every possible advantage, and in spite of
every entreaty; people reject the Word, and continue dead in trespasses and sins.
We cannot explain why in other cases; with ever possible difficulty, and with no
encouragement; people are born again, and become decided Christians.
We cannot define the manner in which the Spirit of God conveys life to a soul, and the
exact process by which a believer receives a new nature.
All these are hidden things to us.
We see certain results, but we can go no further.
This is deeply instructive. It is humbling no doubt to ministers, and teachers of others.
The highest abilities, the most powerful preaching, the most diligent working, cannot
command success.
God alone can give spiritual life.
But it is a truth at the same time, which supplies an admirable antidote to excessive
anxiety and despondency. Our principle work is to sow the seed.
