Memory
Garden
service
It turned out to be a beautiful day
for the eighth annual Service and
Dedication of the Blyth Greenway
Memory Garden. Approximately 50
people were in attendance.
Greetings were brought by Doug
Scrimgeour from the Greenway
Trail Committee and North Huron
Councillor David Riach from the
Township. Rev. Perry Chuipka
(Trinity Anglican Church)
conducted the service. Bill Seymour
played the keyboard while Hilary
McPherson performed a solo on
the flute, “This is My Father’s
World”.
Rev. Chuipka gave a lovely
remembrance. Bev Elliott spoke
about the garden and how Jayne
Thompson from Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority had
produced the “History of the
Garden” on four large laminated
sheets which have been put in the
kiosk for viewing. Also a new
feature has been added to the
Garden in the form of a “Tibetan
Prayer Wheel” donated by Jim and
Brenda Kitching of St. Mary’s.
Brenda is the sister of the late
Murray Nesbitt. She brought the
Prayer Wheel from Nepal in the
spring, hoping that we would find a
place in the Garden. If you spin the
cylinder clockwise as you say a
prayer, it will bring much comfort.
The Tibetans believe by touching
and turning the prayer wheel, it will
bring incredible health, happiness,
abundance and well being.
Bev spoke on having a butterfly
release as a fundraiser in 2012.
More information will follow next
year. Hilary sang a solo, “The Sound
of Music” followed with a closing
prayer by Rev. Chuipka.
Refreshments were served with
fellowship following.
Happy birthday to Larry Badley
who celebrated his birthday on Sept.
20; and Nancy Hakkers, Sept. 23.
Happy anniversary to Rick and
Anne Elliott will celebrate on Sept.
28.
Sorry to hear that Steve Hallahan
is a patient in Stratford Hospital. We
wish him a speedy recovery.
Doug Scrimgeour and Diane
Radford, along with three other
couples, attended the senior games
in Brockville. The men participated
by playing ball with a Stratford
team. Everyone enjoyed the week.
Seniors become very competitive in
these games. One lady in her late 90s
competed in the shotput event and
claims she will be there next year. If
anyone who is 65 and older are
interested in playing senior hockey,
give Doug a call at 519-523-9343.
We are all getting older and when we
reach 65 plus we need to participate
in some form of exercise whether it
be tai chi, hockey, baseball or just
plain walking. Get out and
participate.
BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting worshippers at Blyth
United Church on Sunday, Sept. 19
were Larry and Myrtle Badley.
Ushering were Hope Button, NancyHakkers and Brenda Brooks. FloydHerman was music director. Rev.Garry Clark welcomed everyone tochurch and also welcomed thechildren back to Sunday school. Rev.Clark drew everyone’s attention tothe announcements in the bulletin.Making special attention that it was
Birthday Sunday for the Sunday
school and everyone was invited for
beef on a bun after the service. Camp
Menesetung’s Appreciation Day is
on Sunday, Oct. 3 from 2 p.m. to 4
p.m.
The UCW will meet in the church
parlour at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept.
23. The guest speaker will be David
Riach who will be talking about
stained glass and pottery. Roll call is
to be answered with supplies for the
kitchen for catering such as cans of
apple or tomato juice, pickles and
pumpkin and lemon pie fillings.
Ally Glousher lit the candles at the
front of the church. Flowers were
placed at the front in memory of
Marie Button. The call to worship
was the hymn, “Where Two or Three
Gathered” was followed by the
Prayer of Approach, the first hymn,
“Where Cross the Crowded.” Logan
Chalmers read the scripture from
Deuteronomy 4: 5-10.
The children were asked to come
to the front for their story time. Rev.
Clark had a bag of bird seed and
gave one bag to each child to feed
the birds. He then showed them a
squash and asked if it would be a
good thing to feed the birds. They all
decided that the bird seed would be
better to feed the birds than the
squash. The bird seed is like the
Bible, we can read a little at a time.We can’t read the Bible all at once.God wants us to celebrate His wordjust like we celebrate birthdays. Thechildren and the congregation thensaid a prayer. While the childrenwere going down to Sunday schoolthe hymn, “Take Time to be Holy”was sung.
Rev. Clark’s message to the adults
was “Just Breathe”. Rev. Clark was
looking on the internet for something
about, “Just Breathe”. He found
many things pertaining to “Just
Breathe”. Our society needs to stop
being so busy and “Just Breathe”.
The scriptures told us to stop and
teach the children. We should pass
on the good things in life to others.
In Bible times if you happen to kill
your neighbour, their family had the
right to kill you. “An Eye for an
Eye.” Moses passed along many
laws. One hour is not long enough to
teach the children so we need to add
it to the parents’to-do list. We should
take time to listen and answer the
questions of our children. Answer
with a story that the children can
understand. Don’t worry about
things that might happen, deal with
things that are happening
today.
Rev. Clark ended his message witha quote from Charles Spurgeon,“Anxiety does not empty tomorrowof sorrow but only empties today ofStrength.” The choir sang theanthem, “Breathe on Me Breath ofGod.” The offering was receivedfollowed by the offering hymn, theoffertory prayer, the prayers for the
world and the singing of The Lord’s
Prayer.
The last hymn, Pass Me Not O
Gentle Saviour” followed by the
commissioning and benediction and
the choral response, “Go Now In
Peace”. Everyone was invited
downstairs for the dedication of the
new kitchen and lunch.

This week the junior kindergarten
students began school. It was Dale,
Connor, and Gregory’s first day on
Monday, Sept. 13 and Caleb,
Johnathan and Nathan’s first day on
Wednesday, Sept. 15. The junior
kindergarten students have been
learning about our black bear school
mascot. The senior kindergarten
students are reading and learning the
book “I went walking” while
completing their class profile.
The school attended the annual
Blyth, Brussels, Belgrave School
Fair. For this year they did
something special since this might
be the last year of this event because
of the loss of volunteers. There was a
Birds of Flight demonstration.
If you are interested in
volunteering for the fair, please call
the president, Tim Walden.
Mrs. Decker’s class kicked this
week off at typing camp. There the
class is learning to type properly. In
science the students are studying
matter and materials. The class is
also asking for milk jugs for their
Junk-O-Lanterns to display in
October. If you have any jugs similar
to Mac’s Milk jugs, feel free to drop
them off at the office.
The Grade 7/8 class hosted a
barbecue school fundraiser at the
open house on Thursday, They
served hot dogs, chili, pop and
chips.
The school library was introduced
to a new computer system. The new
web-based program allows access to
other libraries throughout the school
board. This gives much more variety
in books for students.
The annual Terry Fox Run is
scheduled for Sept. 28. The school
hopes to meet the goal of $500 in
donations. A fundraiser within the
school using shoe-shaped cards will
be starting soon.
Bonjour! This year we say hello to

He has a healing balm for all
(John MacDuff, “The Throne of Grace”)
“The Holy Spirit helps us in our distress.” Rom. 8:26
You cannot live without the Holy Spirit.
There cannot be... one heavenly aspiration, one breathing of love, one upward glance of
faith with His gracious influences.
Apart from Him, there is... no preciousness in the Word, no blessing in ordinances, no
permanent, sanctifying results in affliction. The Holy Spirit...directs His people to the
waters of comfort, gives new glory to the promises, and invests the Saviour’s character
and work, with new loveliness and beauty. Come, then, with your affliction!Come with
your infirmity!Come with your need!Come with your wounded spirit!Come with
your broken heart!Whatever, then, be your present situation, seek the promised help of
the Holy Spirit. He has a healing balm for all...the weak, the tempted, the sick, the
sorrowing, the bereaved, the dying.
The Holy Spirit helps us in our distress.” Rom. 8:26
