The Citizen, 2010-09-16, Page 3THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2010. PAGE 3. Memorial garden remembered
The eighth annual remembrance
and dedication service will be held
at the Blyth Greenway Memory
Garden, Drummond East in Blyth onSunday, Sept. 19 at 2 p.m.The suggestion of aMemorial/Celebration Forest wasbrought to the attention of theCommunities in Bloom Committeeapproximately nine years ago. The
suggestion was to take some land
that was currently scrub, and plant
trees and perennials in memory of
local people/descendants who have
passed away, special anniversaries,
etc.
The service is held each year to
help people deal with their loss, and
to remind them that memories live
on. The garden provides a way for
people to be closer to nature, to
reflect upon and enjoy the beautiful
scenery of the Blyth Greenway.
The Foundation will create,
cultivate and enhance all aspects of
conservation, helping to provide
present and future generations with
a safe and healthy environment.
As the Memory Garden survives
totally on donations, the donation
cards are available at FalconerFuneral Homes in Clinton andBlyth, or by contacting Bev Elliott at519-523-4323 for more information. All donations are greatlyappreciated and are tax deductible.“One generation plants a tree or a
flower, so the next can enjoy the
shade or beauty. A tree and perennial
program like this is important to the
community and reminds them that
harmony with the land is like
harmony with a friend. Planting
trees and perennials is a permanent
way to recognize a loved one and at
the same time give back to the
earth.”
They invite everyone to attend and
hear what new projects are
transpiring.
To find the Blyth Greenway
Memory Gardens, turn east on
Drummond Street at Scrimgeour’s
Food Market and travel to the end of
the street.
Bring a lawn chair to the service.
Refreshments will be served.
It has an influence over the life
(J.C. Philpot, “The Precepts of the Word of God”)
“When you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as
the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which effectually works in you
who believe.” 1 Thessalonians 2:13.
Where God’s word effectually works in the heart,it has an influence over the life.
It...separates from the world and the spirit of it; keeps the consciences alive and tender
in the fear of God; produces uprightness and integrity of conduct; extends its influence
to the various relationships of life; subdues pride, covetousness, and selfishness; softens
and meekens the spirit; gives tender feelings and gracious affections; fosters prayer,
meditation, and spirituality of mind; and makes itself manifest in the life, walk, and
conversation.

New students take over Bear Paw
By Carlene Bremner,
Eric Steele and Isaac Nicholson
Hi, my name is Isaac Nicholson. I
am in Grade 8, and I live on a farm
outside of Blyth. I have been
presented with the opportunity to
write a column in the newspaper
about what is happening in Blyth
Public School. I will be updating
you on what is happening at the
school all year.
My name is Carlene Bremner and
I am in Grade 8 at Blyth Public
School. I live outside of Blyth and I
will also be writing in this column. I
look forward to telling you about the
upcoming events and news going on
at Blyth Public School.
My name is Eric Steele. I have just
entered my last year at Blyth Public
School. This year my teacher asked
me to do something I hadn’t done
before. I am one of the three
students who have the responsibility
of writing a column for our school.
I’ll be digging around for the latest
scoop on what’s going on at Blyth
Public School.
This year when we first entered
our computer lab, to our surprise,
there were all-new computers, and
30 new netbooks for the Grade 5/6,
6/7, 7/8 classes. The Grade 7/8 class
was able to do its CASI test on
them.
On Friday, the school took a small
field trip uptown to the Blyth
Thresher Reunion to see all the
events and attractions. The school
also had a chili booth at the Reunion
over the weekend to raise money for
the Grade 5/6 and 6/7 year-end trip.
Sept. 15 students will be attending
the Blyth, Brussels and Belgrave
School Fair.
This week was the first week of
Kindergarten for 12 new students.
